A set of three mysterious satellites has experts guessing about the Chinese space program's intentions. No one really knows what the Chinese are up to, and everything is speculation.

Under debate are the orbital antics of several newcomers to space — the Chinese satellites Shiyan-7, Chuangxin-3 and Shijian-15 — which all launched into orbit together on July 20. Experts are also discussing the actions of China's elder spacecraft Shijian-7, which launched more than eight years ago.

One of the trio of new Chinese satellites, Shiyan-7 (SY-7, Experiment 7), has since made a sudden maneuver. That satellite had already finished a series of orbital alterations that put it close to one of the companion satellites with which it was launched, the Chuangxin-3 (CX-3).

"Suddenly, however, it made a surprise rendezvous with a completely different satellite, Shijian 7 (SJ-7, Practice 7), launched in 2005," noted Marcia Smith, a space policy analyst and founder and editor of SpacePolicyOnline.com.

Soon after the July launch, it was known that one of the three satellites carried "a prototype manipulator arm to capture other satellites," a tool that might be "a predecessor of an arm destined to be aboard China's large space station, set for launch in 2020 or soon thereafter," wrote Bob Christy on zarya.info

The mystery surrounding the recent launches fits the Chinese pattern, said Dean Cheng, a research fellow on Chinese political and security affairs at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.

"Not sure why these are a surprise, other than that the Chinese don't tell us what they're going to do, so anything they do comes without a convenient press briefing," he said

"But it is perhaps useful here to recall that the People's Republic of China remains intent upon establishing space dominance as part of their thinking about 'fighting and winning local wars under informationized conditions,'" Cheng said. And, even as the Chinese call for greater military-to-military contact with the United States, it's true "that they remain opaque, and that they pretty much refuse to engage the U.S. on military space issues.".....snip~

Mysterious Actions of Chinese Satellites Have Experts Guessing

Okay, we have so called experts pretty much saying.....yep this is what China does. Yet they can't figure out what the Chinese are up to. But a Simple map would kinda give all a clue. Personally I don't like seeing us taking a backseat to China or Russia when it comes to Space, the moon, Colonizing, or anything to do with whats in orbit around the planet. Thoughts?

Well, by the Map one can see what the Chinese are doing. What does it look like to you?

New Chinese anti-satellite (ASAT) test could showcase an ability to reach medium-Earth orbit. Doing so, some analysts say, would underscore that country’s ability to place the constellation of U.S. Global Positioning System navigational at risk.

Looks potentially obvious to me. The Chinese have launched satellites that can attack and render the US satellites useless, or destroy them.

Yep Beaudreaux.....they are encircling ours. Then they just need to come in under us with the medium orbit Satellite. I am definitely not liking what I am seeing here.

Star wars baby... star wars. Too bad its true, or it would make a great movie.

Well, this map doesn't show where the Russian Sats are either. But you can see the Chinese are also concentrating on their Space Station going online in 2020. Like the one guy said. No Press conference over al they do.

Their is no loyal opposition and seditionous MSM to demand that they have a press conference, you're right.

But both China and the United States are experimenting with close-proximity maneuvers in space, said Michael Krepon, co-founder of the Washington, D.C.-based Stimson Center and director of its South Asia and Space Security programs. Both nations have demonstrated ASAT capabilities, Krepon told SPACE.com.

Information derived from actual or purported tests for ballistic missile defense, he said, can also be applied for ASAT purposes.

"Beijing and Washington have a choice to make, the same choice that Moscow and Washington faced during the Cold War," Krepon said.

"Major powers can ramp up a competition to damage satellites, or they can arrive at tacit agreements to dampen this competition," he said. "The United States and the Soviet Union chose wisely. China has yet to choose.".....snip~

See I don't agree with the thinking that we should be working with the Chinese.....like we did with the Russians. Such may have worked at the time back then. Which doesn't mean we should accept the concept for the times of today or the future. Not at this time and we should jump first with colonizing the moon. Which then we could launch Sats and probes from there. Make sure China nor Russia never has all of our Sats caught up in some net.

March 31, 2001: US Spy Plane Crashes in China; Chinese Strip Plane of Sensitive Equipment:

......A US EP-3 Aries II spy plane collides with a Chinese fighter jet over the South China Sea. The fighter crashes, killing the pilot; the EP-3 makes an emergency landing at a Chinese air base on China’s Hainan Island, a landing described as illegal by Chinese officials. 24 American crewmen—including three women and eight code-breakers—are taken into custody by the Chinese. The incident is the Bush administration’s first real foreign-policy crisis....

....Bandar, a close friend of the Bush family and a senior Saudi official, is an unusual choice for the negotiations, but Bandar has a special relationship with the Chinese due to Saudi Arabia’s various deals to purchase arms and missiles, and the increasing reliance of China on Saudi oil. Bandar, never a modest man, considers it a personal favor from the Chinese to have them release the 24 American hostages. Bandar also oversees the wording of the American “apology” to the Chinese for the incident, where the US apologizes for entering Chinese airspace to make an emergency landing, but does not apologize for the E-3’s legitimate intelligence-gathering mission. Secretary of State Colin Powell, nominally in charge of the US negotiations, only finds out about Bandar’s efforts through the NSA’s monitoring of Bandar’s phone calls to the Chinese; when he calls Bandar to congratulate him on his success, Bandar snaps to the Secretary of State, “How the hell do you know?”....
