My biggest problems with the democrats are two-fold: First, they are inclined toward tyrannical policies geared at forcing people to do things for their special friends; and second, because they have their heads stuck so far up their political reality stars butts that they cannot see anything that does not involve Washington DC. While people are bellyaching a fictional "living wage", they are not doing anything to address the real world plight of the poor.

Why do we have to wait until after a slum house with 18 kids in it burns down to go after slum lords?

Today is another one of those days that reinforces by belief in how absolutely wrong the democrats are in trying to please their faux DC royalty. The story is pretty simple: poor area with a lot of pedestrian traffic but no infrastructure to support pedestrian traffic. 27 year old mother who had helped raise her own siblings and her 4 kids run over with her and 3 of her kids killed, and the 4th hospitalized, all in Philadelphia, all in a poor area, all in an area where the dangers were known to authorities who apparently did zero to try to improve the infrastructure or stop the drag racing.

Fatal crossing was not her usual path

If the democrats were as organized in addressing crap like this as they are in getting out the national vote or marching because of a trial in FL then maybe this woman and her kids would be alive today. Overhead crosswalks are not that freaking complicated or rare or unduly expensive.

The demorat answer to all problems is simply more gov't cost and control. Speed bumps/traffic lights are far cheaper than overhead crosswalks, better yet, remove the "mentally unstable" person that prevents folks from using existing the normally safe pedestrian routes. Life in the tribal lands where laws are mere options, witnesses are largely non-existant and mentally unstable (crazy?) folks are free to harass (scare?) any passers by without fear of arrest is not pleasant.

So tell me how the Republicans would handle the situation? Why do you think this is only a Dem problem?

Don't take it out on the Smurfs. Are you Gargamel or something?

Are you asking for more 'regulations and oversight' over slum lords? Um, since when did a conservative want regulations and oversight over a private business?

Funding infrastructure? As in "stimulus spending"?

"..Of the leading sources of fatal injuries to youth, 23% percent involved machinery (including tractors), 19% involved motor vehicles (including ATVs), and 16% were due to drowning. In 2009, an estimated 16,100 youth were injured on farms; 3,400 of these injuries were due to farm work.....
CDC - Agricultural Safety - NIOSH Workplace Safety and Health Topic

All in an area where the dangers were known to authorities who apparently did zero to stop youths from operating dangerous farm equipment. But I don't see you complaining about that, Fisher.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Democrats don't care about poverty.

Democrats don't care about poverty.

Wrong. Democrats LOVE poverty. Democrats wish EVERYONE lived in poverty, that way they can be their Mommy, in exchange for their vote.

Yes there is a conspiracy amongst democrats to keep everyone down and stuck on that "government teat"

Please, you are giving them far too much credit

So what would republicans do?

Yes. But they're all also antisocialist/anticommunist.

Oh, so you are saying tear everything down have a single socialist party and democratically elect a counsel responsible for over-sight? I think human nature is very consistent and corruption would leak in. It always does

Not really. No more corruption that occurs in Liberalism.

I don't see this happening but I for one am not opposed to something dramatic shaking up the current system. I see the possible splitting of the Republican party with the extreme Tea-Party types forming their own group or that Republicans who are a little more true to what the republican party use to stand for splitting off and forming their own. My point being, a third party rising up and gaining enough members to win a place in the national arena is a distinct possibility.

Well, crap. I thought this was a thread about Smurfs. I'm highly disappointed. :(
