I had just finished watching CNN's "In the Footsteps of Osama Bin Laden." I would like to deliver a message to Bin Laden and throw down the guauntlet. Mr. Osama Bin Laden, on September 11, you were able to harm a powerful symbol of our economy and a powerful symbol of our military. But you were not able to harm a symbol of our ideas (the symbol of American democracy, the White House). You can kill our soldiers, destroy our economy, but you cannot defeat our ideas. America did not become a super-power because of it's economy or it's military. America become a super-power and became strong because of it's ideas and this is how we will defeat you, with our most powerful weapon, the ideas that our nation is founded upon. Mr. Bin Laden, your ideas are not as strong or as powerful as ours and we will defeat you and others like you.

OBL will not defeat our ideas, but seems some in the name of security and fighting against terrorism are indeed imploding on the very fundamentals for what our ideas stand for. Politicians spreading messages of fear and lobbying for unchecked and unlimited power.
OBL will be captured, tried and killed, if not simply the later.
However if we continue to allow these politicians to grab unrestrained power in the name of fighting terrorism, we will have lost the very essence of what made us a super power and envy of the world.

Yup. I have faith in our system though. I saw where the courts struck down Bush's NSA wiretap program. Checks and balances. Judiciary checking the power of the executive.

If we became a more well-informed republic, the problem with our government would correct itself.

those sound like descriptions of the successful in our country

dont think that is ever going to change

ps. when i say successful, i do not mean million/billionaires
i mean people who do not make poor life decisions
those who learn how to live within their means
and are dedicated to their job, their family, and their country

i.e. Republicans/Conservatives :doh ;)

I think you're example should be those that do not become partisan to begin with, who could care less whether it be liberal or conservative or tied down by any single party's ideology.

I own a small, successful business, I have been married to the same woman for 25 years, live within my means, have raised one child to adulthood and am working on another now 6, and I am dedicated to my job as well as my country.

I am not a republican.

Of course, I am not mindlessly partisan, either.

Although bin-Laden masks his ideology in the guise of religion, it is at base an authoritarian political ideology. Most freedom loving people recognize his ideological sham for what it really is.

America must guard itself against the encroachment of impatience, disinterest, and moral equivalency. America should also realize that military power alone will not defeat this implacable enemy. Knowledge, wisdom, and the ideals of freedom are the best arrows in the quiver of righteousness.
