Years ago I knew enough about information systems just to be dangerous. Then I went into management and forgot it all, but I remember we all preached to never be the first one to upgrade - let the users beta-test the upgrade, work the bugs out, then you upgrade a few months later.

Has this changed? But moreover the real question - should I upgrade to 11 right now?

Why be an early adopter, when your current OS is functional & supported.

I'd wait awhile. But then with Windows, I usually wait just about forever until I'm more or less forced into an upgrade. Now IOS for my phone, I'll adopt a lot quicker - but still wait a bit.

If you are happy with 10, stay with it.. I've been using 11 for about 3 months now.. It works great. I've had very little problems with it. But the reality is it's not that much different than 10...

MS is going to support 10 for another 5 years... So unless you are 1 of those users who want the latest and the greatest update as soon as possible? Then stay with 10 as long as you want, then upgrade at your convenience...

Microsoft 15 will have all brains connected to a central server 24/7, to make sure they can 'help you' efficiently manage your life.

That reminds me of this...

I thought Windows 10 would be the last OS needed or provided with just future updates to 10.
I believe AI machines will pop up soon making PCs with keyboards and mouses obsolete.
Already a large percentage of people are doing most of their online activity with smartphones.

I've always been dragged kicking and screaming into the new Windows, all the way back to Windows 3.x.

In my personal life, the only good reason to upgrade Windows (EVER!) is to play a game that's not supported by the old version.

For work, I've tried hard to arrange things so that (in theory) I can wake up next to any PC with Internet access in the world and get my working platform up and running in a few minutes whatever the OS, and even if I'm too hung over to remember more than one password.

They've been burying the PC for 10 years now. Tablets were going to replace them. Laptops too.. Smart phones... PCs are still around..

I have 2 tablets, 2 laptops and a smart phone. But I still use my PC from most of my heavy lifting..

The furry porn option made me rofl

It took me a long time to adopt Windows 10, and I didn't start on my main PC. I'll probably start looking into it in a couple years.

One of the most annoying fads of the last few years is the sight of "le auteur" crafting his magnum opus on his laptop in Starbucks, and if they're really
of the ultra snooty variable, it's a Macbook...but either way, it's always the snooty auteur at the coffee shop on his laptop.
Only his magnum opus turns out to be cat videos on YouTube.

Still using the Big Iron and I expect I still will be for many years.

Windows 10 will be supported until 2025, so you still have four years to think about it. I didn't lose any sleep over upgrading from my flip-phone, VCR, or 8-Track. I won't lose any sleep over upgrading from Windows 10. Except for turntables, it is okay to let old technology slip into the pages of history.

I still have a turntable, thank you... Lol

Long live vinyl.. Lol

I've worked with, installed, etc computers since the late 80s.. I've been retired now for about 10 years so it's all gone past me now. When I travel I bring my laptop and tablet. They have their uses. But again for the heavy lifting when I'm at home I love my PC

I still have a U-matic 3/4 inch VCR, still have a 1-inch Type C VTR, and I still have my turntable and still have a vacuum tube amp.
But all of the above exists only for digitizing purposes.
Someday I'll find another four track TEAC A-3340S reel to reel, also for digitizing purposes.

But most likely I will continue enjoying the digital audio through my vacuum tube amp.
And I never owned an 8-track, couldn't stomach the idea, and I will never long for the days of analog standard def TV either.

Vinyl still sounds the best. I know that's not cool anymore, but there it is. I said it.. Lol

I come from a long line of people who subscribe to the credo: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Unless someone tells me I need to upgrade or die, I suppose I'll wait as well 💻

The company I worked for was still running Windows 7 on several of it's PC's and was running XP on some of them until MS stopped supporting it. 🪟

If you use high bit rate, sample rate and high bit depth (192 kHz 24 bit) I guarantee you that you won't know if it's vinyl or not.
I still love vinyl too but I don't want to wear it out, so it gets transcribed.
In the old days I dubbed it to reel.
Then later I began experimenting with VHS-HiFi, which if you never knew, was a surprisingly good audio format.

The problem with most digital audio you BUY is that it's a paltry 44.1 kHz 16 bit platform, and some mp3 formats are a
godawful 128kbps.

And the next release, 17 will facilitate time travel 🕘

I just picked up 2 google nest devices. No mouse or keyboard needed. Have a question?

"Hey google, when do the Seahawks next play?"

Google: "The Seahawks next game is on Sunday at 5pm, where they will play the Steelers".

Also, they both interface with YouTube Music, my music service and you can ask them to play any tune. The sound quality is comparable to those Sonos speakers.

I recommend those nests! They're mega-cool!

The PC I'm on right now is all solid state and wakes up with a fingerprint in seconds.

I'm still running Windows 7 without any problems. It will be a year or so before I upgrade. There is nothing to be gained in performance by being an early adopter. I'll let somone else be the guinea pig and work out the bugs.

PCs, laptops, and tablets are still responsible for 75% of internet usage, compared to 92% for smartphones, which are used more for texting and social media. I don't see them being dramatically replaced for another 10 yrs unless some new tech evolution occurs. Smartglasses and smartwatches have been disappointing. They need something that's as functional and produces the dopamine rush that current setups do.
