I just picked up 2 google nest devices. No mouse or keyboard needed. Have a question?

"Hey google, when do the Seahawks next play?"

Google: "The Seahawks next game is on Sunday at 5pm, where they will play the Steelers".

Also, they both interface with YouTube Music, my music service and you can ask them to play any tune. The sound quality is comparable to those Sonos speakers.

I recommend those nests! They're mega-cool!

A friend of mine uses Google voice on his phone in a similar way, except he has to read the results. My old man hated computers and said he'd use them when they could verbally interact like Star Trek's, Enterprise. Too bad he's not around to see how close we are to that reality.

PCs, laptops, and tablets are still responsible for 75% of internet usage, compared to 92% for smartphones, which are used more for texting and social media. I don't see them being dramatically replaced for another 10 yrs unless some new tech evolution occurs. Smartglasses and smartwatches have been disappointing. They need something that's as functional and produces the dopamine rush that current setups do.
I agree. Tablets and smart phones aren't going anywhere. But PCs still have a place in the tech world..

Exactly! Perhaps that's why I like voice-prompted devices. I feel like I'm on a starship 🚀

Be brave. Demand Windows 13.

Years ago I knew enough about information systems just to be dangerous. Then I went into management and forgot it all, but I remember we all preached to never be the first one to upgrade - let the users beta-test the upgrade, work the bugs out, then you upgrade a few months later.

Has this changed? But moreover the real question - should I upgrade to 11 right now?
I would never beta test a OS. Unless that was the condition of getting it free verses shelling out a hundred bucks later. I am kind of regretting not getting that free windows 10 upgrade now because some of the newer games won't work on 8.1 and below.

Every beta version of Windows is a freebie to upgrade to the next version... I've been doing it for years.
.
If you are still on 8 though you're going to have to pay to get 11.. Make sure your computer can run 11. Look into it before you get it. Some older machines won't run 11..

I'll probably buy a copy of windows 10 and get 11 when I get a new PC. I have a intel i7-4770 3.4GHz cpu and 16 gigs of ram. I am sure my pc can handle the upgrading to 11, but newer operating systems sometimes demand higher hardware requirements.

It's not just the hardware with 11. You got to make sure you have a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 chip. Version 1.2 will work, but it is not as secure..

Check your BIOS.. That will tell you if you have TPM, the version, etc..

Google all of this before you buy 11...

Good know. I won't bother will 11 until the next computer I buy has it.

Microsoft 15 will have all brains connected to a central server 24/7, to make sure they can 'help you' efficiently manage your life.
HAL approves of this future development.

And remember when you upgrade what might happen... This morning my Pixel upgraded to android 12.. Remember pixel is Google's phone, Google android and all of that.. They're the same company....

The upgrade is totally F'ed up my phone... lol...Half of my widgets no longer work.. when I click on this forum to reply, the keyboard no longer comes up so I can't type replies on my phone... {I'm on my PC now)... I'm sure in a day or 2 everything will be straightened out..

But damn... You would think Google would release an update that would work, at least on their own cell phones... lol

I have a Pixel as well. I loved it, until I put it in the washing machine. It only killed the display and probably could be repaired, but since there was water damage, the repair shop won't touch it because they say, even if it works now, the corrosion of its components will continue and the phone will eventually not work.

Washing machine will do that.. Pixel 5a is getting great reviews. That's my next phone..

I have a 4a now.. Best phone I ever had. But the battery life is not good. But I am retired, so if I have to recharge it once or twice a day.. So what...

My pixel has some kind of "smart-energy" algorithm in that maximizes battery life, based on my use. I'm not sure what my next phone will be - I'm using a P.O.S. LG phone not even being supported by my carrier any longer. My favorite phone was a Samsung S9+. I might just go on Amazon and pick up a used one.

I highly recommend the 5s. If you want to spend big bucks..The pixel 6 is almost out. But for 400$ or so the 5a gets great reviews..

Just a couple hundred more than a used S9+. I'll look into it - but remember, I like to put phones in washing machines - need to consider that :)
