Muslim Candidate For Congress -- Who's Winning (1 Viewer)

It will do nothing. It may legitimize the US in the eyes of some muslims, but that doesn't really matter. Governments of Muslim countries who like us arent going to like us more. The extremists will simply label him a mouth piece.

Or a traitor.

I don't trust this guy at all. His ties to Louis Farrakhan are disgusting, and he's certainly not someone that the American Muslim community should want as a spokesperson.

As someone who lives in the Twin Cities and has helped out on Keith's campaign, let me clarify some of these myths. He has repeatedly denounced Louis Farahkkan and the Nation of Islam and says that he no longer supports what it stands for. I guarantee that if you met Keith and talked to him for five minutes, you would change your opinion of him.

Well, it's looking like a real possibility. He is running in a district the Dems haven't lost since 1960, plus he has a strong Somali base of support.

Thoughts on how this might affect the country?

A local talk show host in the Orlando area brought up this candidate the other day, and the host's angle was will this person, if elected, insist on taking his oath using the Quran.

So many people in this area called in and said that would be wrong, that only the Bible should be used for that purpose. I think one caller said something like 'when you're in this country do what we do.'

People are so ignorant. First of all, there is no need for any religious book to be used for any swearing in ceremony, it is not required. But second, and I called in to the show and got on air and said this, the candidate's religion is his personal choice, government can not influence it, and he can take his oath on the Quran if he wants to. Also, I said the issue is freedom of religious choice, and without that the Christians would have no more personal choice than they want the above candidate to have.

Anyway, pride in one's religion shouldn't raise the desire to restrict another's rights.
