What can we expect from Musk next? Will he walk away and sell his shares? My guess is no.
This piece discusses some possibilities. Maybe he'll buy up shares directly from other shareholders through a tender offer or a conditional tender offer (the Elvis song hint from the weekend). Maybe he'll lay out his financing and plans to the board and/or partner with a private equity firm. Maybe he'll sue the board for not acting in the best interests of the shareholders (unlikely, as that would be too drawn out). Maybe he'll just keep pressuring the board (along with other shareholders) with his current offer or a somewhat higher one.

who has sat and wondered if other hugely wealthy people just watch what Elon does and are ready to counter any crazy shit he does?

I predict he will try and buy Mars.

The planet not the candy brand.
While I guess he will succeed at buying Twitter and open up speech as is his intention, I don't think he'll pull off a Mars purchase;)

Are you active on Twitter?

Parler?
Truth-Social?

Don't care.
That's a good outlook. I'm not sure if you've felt that way since he bought his 9% and this whole plan of his started taking shape and making news, but I do think we'll soon see Twitter opened back up to all those scary, scary conservatives who were booted - because how dare they express views the left disagrees with.
I'm a fan of free speech and fair availability to both sides and you don't care - so I think that's a fine win win.

There it is. This is about conservatives rubbing their hands with glee about potential revenge against Twitter for Twitter exercising its rights as an independent company.

Had nothing to do with disagreements, political or otherwise. Threats of violence are what got them banned

Why not? Musk actually thinks the average person is more than able to buy a 100K ticket to Mars. If so many people can afford that, it will be gold mine to own the destination.

First, I think if he were actually able to acquire Twitter, it would have been a rather incredible move. While not everyone uses Twitter (I certainly do not) the most important people in the country do. Marshall Kosloff of the Realignment Podcast said that this harkens back to the days of wealthy business tycoons buying newspapers, like William Randolph Hearst purchasing multiple American newspapers and journals at the turn of the 20th Century*. I would go so far as to say that owning Twitter today in 2022 would be the equivalent of owning a controlling share of every newspaper of every major city in the United States in 1922. He could use his editorial control (or lack of it) to shape public discourse at the highest levels for years to come, as well as to use Twitter as an advertising platform for his own business.

Of course, all this presumes he has such grand ambitions. My guess is he will get bored anl do something that will gain him the most attention and buzz possible because as some have pointed out, he cannot stand being out of the news cycle for more than 48 hours.

*And I should add, many wealth businessmen still do the same thing today in purchasing respected newspapers, as with Rupert Murdoch purchasing Wall Street Journal or Jeff Bezos purchasing the Washington Post.

I suspect j browns body doesn't care for the same reason I don't care. I'm not on twitter and never will be. As far as the bullshit claims that conservative speech has been throttled, all you need to do is take an unbiased look and you will see thousands of conservative and far right posters using it every day. Although I'm not on twitter, I read enough news everyday, many if not most contain twitter quotes from conservatives such as MTG, Bobert, Gaetz, and many more, enough to see that the claims that conservative have been shut out of twitter is nonsense. You however can continue to spread the right wing talking points if you wish, I guess it's easier than doing your own thinking.

Rubbing our hands with glee, absolutely - about just having a fair environment where both sides can speak.
Revenge? No, if that were Musk's goal, he'd want to only allow the right to speak freely (as pay back) - and I know that's not what he's after. He's been extremely clear about that.

I doubt he thinks the "average person" can afford a ticket, but I do think there are plenty of takers for those once in a lifetime type adventures.

Oh he does.

I think your commentary speaks more about the people who are consumers of social media.

The US population and its reaction politically and socially, is what troubles me. The apparent lack of education and logical thinking are what troubles me.

Lol, maybe that is his perspective. And I'd certainly agree a whole lot of "average" people likely have $100,000 or more saved in their lives. But I sure don't think many "average" people would spend that much on a splurge like that. I'd think they might see something like a down payment on a home or college tuition for a child, as a better and more logical use.

Musk does not know his way around a software based business. He knows electric cars and spaceships and he is an excellent judge of the timing of business ventures....like Electric cars for example. He is also a major league risk taker. All he wants out of Twitter is the ability to tweet himself. All he wants out of his buyout offer is publicity. He could give a crap about Twitter as a business opportunity.

Twitter is in fact a very small company which is fitted into such a narrow and specific niche that social networking efforts that try to compete with it simply fall apart in short order (see Donnie's effort as it falls apart). Twitter's primary function now is to give Politicians and Celebrities a platform to make fools of themselves in 280 characters or less and a place for MSM to pick up on it and pontificate on the latest bit of political tomfoolery ad nauseam. If it were not for MSM's focus on celebrity and titillation we would hardly know Twitter exists any longer.

I feel like this is too funny.

Leftists across the country are terrified that they will loose control of this propaganda tool.

If it was NOT a tool they value to disseminate propaganda, why would they care?

Too funny!

You mean like the bullshit lying propaganda that Trujmp disseminated with such regularity and dangerously that he got his dumb ass dumped off the platform? You mean that propaganda?

I think it'd be pretty funny if he really did turn it into a "free speech" utopia and wipe out a massive chunk of his wealth as people flee the service to some other up and coming one. Let people post just about anything, and you get a bunch of nazis, porn, and snuff videos. You get . . .

But he's undeniably a good businessman, so I doubt he'll go all-in.
