MSNBC poll on immigration. You may be surprised!

Do you support the Arizona immigration law?

Its a nonscientific poll, so the results don't mean squat.

Please compare and contrast a scientific poll vs. a non scientific poll. I'm betting you wish the results "[didn't] mean squat," but they actually do. The fact that the spread is so large definitely means something. Is it 100% accurate? Probably not, but it's not meaningless!

Before going any further. Please do assume what my motives are. Immigration reform is not an issue that I really care about so I am pretty neutral on this.

Back to your point, the results are meaningless as the demographics behind it have not been balanced against the makeup of the general population.

Argh I wish I knew how to use multi-quote. I'm still thinking you're against the Arizona immigration law. MSNBC tends to attract a more liberal audience, and therfore an audience that is more likely to be against the immigration law. The fact that it i so one sided does say something. It says that those who are at least somewhat informed have a tendancy to support the law.

I dont get why POPs matter anyways, they ask the opinion of people who probably have the wrong idea about whatever it is they're being polled

Even though MSNBC might attract a more liberal audience, the poll is open to spamming from various sources such as reddit.com, free republic, 4chan, etc.

In other news. This poll http://www.debatepolitics.com/polls/76226-relgion-do-you-belong-too.html states that majority of people are atheist/agnostic and of "other" religious beliefs. However, government census data tells us that Christians are still the largest religious group... The MSNBC poll means nothing and is not scientific. It doesn't accurately portray the public opinion of the Arizona bill.

This makes sense. Also, thanks for the help with multi-quote.

This is also a good point.

All the polls I've heard of on this issue have been way over 50% (most 60-80%) in favor of the law. Another case of big gov ignoring the American people.
The MSNBC poll is a shocker though. Could be something fishy there. They are constantly bashing any form of securing the border. I've seen numerous bashings of Gov. Brewer and anyone who agrees with her. Maybe the MSNBC audiance isn't as biased as the network itself, but 95%?

Couldn't have said anything here better myself!

Just heard the Federal Government IS taking Arizona to court. What the hell is this country coming to when we have Big Gov sueing the states for a law that was written because Obama refuses to do his job! The Arizona law is identical to the federal law. If one is unconstitutional, than so is the other one. When did we lose the right to protect ourselves?

Awesome!

Did you also know that Ron Paul is the President? Online non-scientific polls showed him DESTROYING every other candidate so he had to have won the presidency in reality.....right?

Seriously, I give little credance to online polls. The ability to screw with them is far, far to great.

There have been lots of polls lately and they *ALL* say the same thing. Americans are sick and tired of illegal immigration and they want something done about it. This is nothing surprising, except to the whining liberals who live in another reality entirely.

Well since its non-scientific lets say its + or - 20% points.

We need to get these free-loading, arrogant, law-breaking people the hell out of our Country!!!

If its nonscientific, it could be +-0% to +-95% and nobody could be sure.

I am in favor of the Bill, I have read it and I agree with it in it's totality.
Had the Federal Authorities bothered to obey the law of the land, Arizona would have had no need to write this Bill and bring it in as a State law.

Dude, its msnbc, not a warez or porn site. And MSNBC slants to the left of the aisle too.

You assume that only people who consume MSNBC's news are the ones voting.

Oh heavens - it's a site-access poll - clear your cookies and you can probably vote again.
Write a bot and vote vote vote vote vote.

Its' easy to flub such things if you know how.

All this poll tells you is that 95% of logged votes are in favor - that's about it.

I don't really have much of an opinion on the AZ immigration law. I generally support what it's trying to do (increase enforcement of laws against illegals), but I've not read it to know whether I agree with the specifics.

Sounds like USA elections.

No, it says that the majority of the people who voted at that poll voted in support of the law. That is all it says.

We could interpret these results to mean lots of things.

We could decide that the right wing is so desperate to be right that they hired some skript kiddies to bomb the poll.

We could intuit that self-important right wing pundits advertised this poll and thus flooded it with their listeners and readers.

We could wonder if perhaps some random anonymous asshat decided to screw with the poll and thus give you a six-foot erection with a giant cheeseburger on the end of it.

Just saying.

Glad you were just saying.
