Jealous of ....?

finally the redneck state is getting something. ;)

Jealous because:
  • We are the only state that could succeed and be it's own country?
  • The prez is from here?
  • The ladies are better looking here?
  • Red state?
There are many things to be jealous of... :D

I guess the definition of 'backward' is warranted.

Please don't the let the door hit you in the butt.

Wasn't born there, but you're welcome to claim him.

You mean like Ann Richards?

And by "Red" do you mean it's operating in negative cash flow just like your great President has the entire nation running at in record amounts?

Give me a few years and I will be a full fledged Picard!
Well... closer to Rob Reiner with red beard and glasses.

Sorry, I'm taken. :p

As a Red Stater myself - Red as in beauty, love, stength, energy, courage, goals, power, and willpower.
As opposed to Blue - Cold and depressing. :D

Interesting - here in the UK the Conservatives are blue (definitely cold and depressing) and socialists are red (warm and lovely!)

You forgot two things, "Everything is Big in Texas" and "Two things comes from Texas.........., and I don't see any horns on you boy so which one are you?" :)

Never been to Texas, but any state that could produce the likes of 'W' is backward by any measure. Not to mention the Texan fascination with the death penalty...

I voted before I looked at the poll results...and guess what?

I voted for Texas! LOL! I was a bit surprised to see all the votes for Texas?

My reasoning is...any state that would elect Bush as governor, and support him for the White House after his dismal record in Texas, (and believe me...I've read books on Bush as governor of Texas) has to be operating on an elevator that doesn't go all the way to the top floor.

Do you mean secede? And no we can't. We could at one time, but not anymore.

Texas population as of 2003; 22,118,509.

Texas Gross State Product as of 2003; 813,112 (millions)

Here is a link for the top 20. Were individual states listed, Texas would be in the top 15.

According to forbes http://www.forbes.com/2004/05/05/04bestplacesland.html Austin, TX is the 3rd best place to live in the USA.

Another link that has the USA divided by regions. You would almost believe that Texas and California make up the entire western portion of the USA.

Have to love this backwards state of ours.

I'm with Pac...

I encourage the people of Texas to form their own country (PLEASE DO!)... but I do believe that New York and California have larger economies, sufficient land mass, higher intellectual achievement etc.. we could leave, but we are Americans... not Texans!

I wish you could claim poor Georgie, but he was born and raised is the uptight, old monied state of Connecticut (BLUE STATE by the way!), which has the highest IQ level and educational system in the country. Which would explain our banishing poor W after his Daddy bought the kids way into Yale. He is as whitebread WASP as they come... he's only pretending to be a Texan, to impress the natives.

Red used to denote those Commie, socialist, ungodly barbarians... geez, what happened? I guess today's red is yesterdays blue?

We won't hold it against you Vauge... I guess someone has to live there!

Texas...executions, maximum drug enforcement and lock up, crappy legal system, epa shambles, etc, etc...

I certainly hope you're being sarcastic here (the bold). But yes, I too find it odd how a party once led by Sen. Joe McCarthy and his 'Communist hunting' tactics (these tactics are a fancy word for lying lol) could be happy with the description of 'red' state. I would consider myself a bit of a 'red' individual (actually, a mix of red, black, and green), but I'm not talking about being a Republican here. Frankly, it's kind of disheartening that the GOP, a party once defined by being 'anti-red', now uses the color to describe themselves. But, fear not, for socialists and communists are still the true 'reds'.

Of course I'm being sarcastic! The strangest thing for me is seeing the new definition of our political parties. I can't tell who is who anymore! Republicans act like old style democrats (big spending, pandering to the uneducated working class, stepping all over states rights ie Schiavo case). The Democrats are acting like republicans as they try to define their "platform" (didn't know they had one) to position themselves as more religious (talk about pandering to the market!). It's just funny as hell!

Yeah, I find the similarities of the GOP and Dems quite scary. There is no third party currently with the strength to oppose these two capitalist parties. Perhaps you'll like this idea: I have before on a different forum proposed a unification of the modern anti-capitalist movement. The red, green, and black factions have individually challeneged capitalism at different points in history. If we united the three factions into an anti-capitalist party, we'd have a huge international party with sufficient strength to challenge the major capitalist parties of all industrialised countries. What do ya think of that idea, Contrarian?

Well.... true to my name. I am a true Contrarian. I am socially liberal (in most cases), but an all out, cheerleading, big time fan of Capitalism. It is the finest system on the planet, except for the abuses. I have mentioned many times that the Scandanavian form of Social / Capitalism is the way to go. So while I admire your opinions and skilled debate on many of these threads... when it comes to bashing capitalism as a whole... I feel you are dead wrong.
