More U.S. troops died in Iraq over past four months than in any similar period of war

All the more reason to start withdrawing our troops sooner than later, this war is done with, over and out!

More U.S. troops died in Iraq over past four months than in any similar period of war - USATODAY.com

WASHINGTON (AP) — More American troops were killed in combat in Iraq over the past four months — at least 334 through Jan. 31 — than in any comparable stretch since the war began, according to an Associated Press analysis of casualty records.

Not since the bloody battle for Fallujah in 2004 has the death toll spiked so high.

The reason is that U.S. soldiers and Marines are fighting more battles in the streets of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and other cities. And while hostile forces are using a variety of weaponry, the top killer is the roadside bomb.

In some respects it is the urban warfare that U.S. commanders thought they had managed to largely avoid after U.S. troops entered Baghdad in early April 2003 and quickly toppled the Saddam Hussein regime.

And with President Bush now sending thousands more U.S. troops to Baghdad and western Anbar province, despite opposition in Congress and the American public's increasing war weariness, the prospect looms of even higher casualties...

Sadly this kind of news makes Kids rock day........He can't wait to post it..........

Your premise is ridiculous. No, they aren't going to want a return to Saddam. That in no way means the form of government they do want is deserving of risking life and limb.
That depends on the governmnt "they do want", doesnt it?
What kind of government is that? How do you know?

How do you know they don't want that kind of government? Hell they voted under the threat of death for a democratic type government.........

A good portion of the population wants sharia law. We know because they have told us so and continue to fight our presence because of it.

Sometimes the truth is right in front of you but your preconcieved notions blind you from seeing it.

If a majority want a representative government American Troops wouldn't be needed this long after regime change and American deaths wouldn't be rising this long after democratic representation was given to them.

They are proving that those that oppose this form of government outnumber those that do by not being able to provide defense for themselves.

Just because you don't care about the fact that more U.S. troops died in Iraq doesn't mean I'm as numb as you.

You, CurrentAffairs and Goobieman would just as well love to omit the insignificant details and numbers when it comes to our troops dying daily in Iraq.

The truth is that you all have developed a cold, callous and unsympathetic attitude towards the news of our troops suffering in Iraq.

What is it with you? Because people point out facts about previous wars they are cold and callous? That's crazy. Any loss of life is horrible but this is a war you know.

What's with me? What's with you?

Do you not hear them accuse us of 'celebrating' just because we post the sad facts about the war in Iraq?

You are correct in that any life lost is horrible and that especially includes the lives of American troops lost in Iraq... needlessly, I might add!

Well when you post things like this and don't get the response you want you accuse people of not caring. That is wrong.

Re: More U.S. troops died in Iraq over past four months than in any similar period of

I don't think anyone is making light of the lives lost in Iraq but in comparison to other wars the numbers a very low. To act as though this war is the worst ever in terms of human lives is simply false and inaccurate.

Would you please say that to the families whose children/parents/spouses have died in this war? I wonder what kind of reaction you would get.

KidRocks, it's a usual day on this message board--let's attack the messenger and essentially ignore or diminish the message. It's pathetic.

Kid, but when these lost lives have no impact on some people (which is the majority of Americans), they genuinely don't care.

Maybe someday, someway, somehow they will discover their hearts. You think?

If they do, they won't admit it here.

I can see how talloulou may have misread what I said. The majority of Americans do not have family/friends who have died in this war. My point is that some individuals don't care about the lives that are being lost because it has no impact on them. I would be surprised if talloulou could prove me wrong on this hypothesis.

Well this revised statement is much better than your last. I think most people do have someone though in their family who once served our country. My grandpop stormed the beach at normandy. He goes to church everyday. You'd think he'd be a big conservative but he's a huge hearted liberal. He hates war. There's nothing that could get him to agree now that any wars are worth serving in. His favorite President of all time was Clinton. Of course he is also getting senile so all his words must now be taken with a grain of salt. But I have had him go through his high school year book and point out all his friends that died in war. Two were twins. It's very hard to think about but I believe in what those boys did then and I believe in what our troops are doing now.

Hey talloulou, where in the hell is the 'basement'? I can't find access to it anywhere on this site.

Quagmire: any military endeavor that bears any kind of cost or obstacle.

Liberal to English dictionary.

We lost what 10,000 men in a single day in Normandy? By this nauseatingly spineless argument, we should have pulled out of that war too. Thank God Democrats weren't always such sniveling, visionless cowards.

:2sick1:

Newsflash: 9/11 thrust us into a global struggle against terrorism. Removing terror-sponsors with a hard-on for WMD (AFTER 15 years of failed diplomacy) is a GOOD THING, even if (gasp) some of our soldiers have to die keeping the fight abroad.

Not everyone can handle war. I know I couldn't. Hell I couldn't even handle marrying a military man 'cause I'm too much of a big baby to spend all that time alone! Knowing I myself couldn't handle it gives me even greater respect for those who can as well as the sacrifices they and their families make for me. I can also respect people who are just flat out pacifists too. I realize that they're not the ones who are going about the business of keeping me and mine safe but I can still respect their ideas. I can also comprehend and respect people who don't believe a certain war is being fought the best way. What I can't respect are people like kidrocks who once said he hoped Israel would lose in battle as it would amuse him to just change things up a bit. Some have no respect for anyone and just seem to enjoy the chaos factor.
Those who have sympathy for the enemy can be tolerated to a point but once that sympathy crosses the line to cheering for the other side I loose all respect for them.
