Right now you've got $10 trillion in debt in Europe and Japan at negative interest rates.
The beauty regarding Debt is that it is held by a great many other countries who are quite happy for the debtor to just make the installment payments. Even negative payments are OK, because there's no other alternative.
No country (such as China) would cash in it's T-notes for as long as the US economy is not imploding. Which it isn't and never has, so likely never will.
Stop worrying about the debt (unless it is yours as a mortgage and your house could be seized for non-payment). No nation is going to "seize American property" because Uncle Sam's National Debt is not paid. Well, they can try stupidly, but that will get them nowhere.
All the emotion about the
Humongous National Debt is useless nonsense from the Rabid Right - who are fundamentally against any New Government Spending like genuflecting automatically at an altar of religion. It is true nonetheless true that, rather than sustaining the ND, we could be using better the funds necessary to sustain it.
So, cutting is not a bad idea. Just "how" is the real question. Guns or butter! Guns or butter!
If the Replicants want to restrain the budget, it is NEVER EVER in the DoD that they want to cut, but in Social Services.
Those of us old enough to remember our demonstrations against the Vietnam War will also recall "Guns or butter!". And, ever since Vietnam, not once did an American PotUS - with the exception of Obama - refrain himself from ordering "Our Boys" to go get killed in a foreign war. (For a mechanism of "population control", I'd rather the pill, wouldn't you? ;^)
Why should the Replicants care? It wasn't
their kids dieing. But some poor slob tempted by the promise of a grant in compensation for however many years of military service. (If they survived!)
It's always the
same ole story about the politics of the American budget and its repetition is getting very, very tiresome ...
