Three more weapons from Fast and Furious have turned up at crime scenes in Mexico, CBS News has learned, as the toll from the controversial federal operation grows.

According to Justice Department tracing documents obtained by CBS News, all three guns are WASR-10 7.62x 39mm-caliber Romanian rifles. Two were purchased by Fast and Furious suspect Uriel Patino in May and July of 2010. Sean Steward, who was convicted on gun charges in July 2012, purchased a third. The rifles were traced yesterday to the Lone Wolf gun shop in Glendale, Ariz.

During Fast and Furious and similar operations, federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) encouraged the Lone Wolf and other gun stores to sell massive amounts of weapons to questionable purchasers who allegedly trafficked them Mexican drug cartels.

Patino is said to have purchased 700 guns while under ATF's watch. Ever since, a steady stream of the guns have been recovered at crime scenes in Mexico and the U.S. But the Justice Department has refused repeated requests from Congress and CBS News to provide a full accounting. An estimated 1,400 guns are still on the street or unaccounted for.

Keep moving on folks, nothing to see here. Holder is stonewalling and Obama's executive order has stymied the investigation. According to Obama it's just a phony charge, but he won't allow the pertinent damning paperwork to indict those within his administration.

How do they trace guns going into Mexico?

Huh? BATF Federal regulations require that every weapon sold by a registered and licensed dealer record it's serial number and the name and address of the buyer registered within BATF records. The serial numbers were more than likely recorded by the Mexican authorities when the weapons were captured and then sent to the BATF.

Do you have a reading comprehension disability?

To begin, the Fast and Furious operation was illegal and begun by the BATF under the auspices of the Obama administration and directed by Eric Holder.

You're not making any sense.

How is the ATF supposed to trace guns to Mexican cartels unless someone from a cartel purchases them from a legal gun dealer in the US and takes them into Mexico?

Didn't the program start under Bush?

Yes the program did start under Bush. Some people like to ignore that fact.

The program was started under Bush, and then expanded under obama.

The extreme lefitsts on this forum like to play games with words and quickly note "Bush did it" but Bush is not president today. If he were he should be ousted for encouraging one of his law enforcement agencies to monitor people breaking the law and not stopping them from doing so; which is exactly what they did.

But then the extreme left wouldn't really care; they are busy promoting voter fraud, illegal immigration and ambassador hunting!

I don't think anyone has denied or ignored the fact that a similar program was conducted during the Bush administration and ended in late 2007. That program was partially successful until the electronics implanted in the weapons were discovered. In any case only However, the F&F program under Obama/Holder had no tracking devices and was a disaster from the beginning. Just how many American and Mexican citizens have been killed by the failed and illegal F&F program?

Some facts for you:

Differences Between Bush’s ‘Wide Receiver’ Program and Obama’s ‘Fast & Furious’

By Gary Krasner

It’s the difference between a marshmallow and a Mellow Marsh.

The main Democrat talking point to defend Obama’s debacle — Fast & Furious — is to claim that had begun under Pres. Bush. But in fact, the program they’re referring to that was run during Bush’s administration was called “Wide Receiver”, and it had been discontinued over a year before Obama took office. But more egregious than that is that it’s a facile sound-bite that ignores the stark differences between “Wide Receiver” and “Fast & Furious”, and worse, supposed serious journalists and correspondents do not call Democrats to task for it.

Here are the differences in simplest terms:
•Wide Receiver (WR) was active from 2005 to 2007 (Oct.). Number of guns involved: 400
•Fast & Furious (F&F) was active from Fall 2009 – 2011. Number of guns involved: 2,000

GUN TRACKING METHODS:

Electronic tracking
WR – RFID trackers installed in guns.
F&F – No electronic tracking.

Surveillance
WR – Actively tracked by airborn surveillance.
F&F – No active surveillance of any kind.

Purchases
WR – Straw purchases recorded & surveilled.
F&F – No recording or surveillance of straw purchasers

Further Explanation: The local ATF field agents were ordered not to follow the straw purchasers. Federal agents were not allowed to interdict the guns and they even ran interference for the smugglers with local law enforcement on multiple occasions to make sure those guns made it across the border.

When Mexico was notified:
WR – When arms were purchased & smugglers crossed border.
F&F – Not told the program even existed.

Results of the operation:
WR – 1,400 felony arrests & identification of cartel operators.
F&F – No arrests were made.

Reason it was discontinued:
WR – Smugglers began disabling RFID tracking devices.
F&F – Over 200 Mexicans + two US federal agents killed by the guns.

Agencies involved:
WR – DoJ and Arizona-local ATF.
F&F – 4 federal agencies & 10 cities in five states.

Purpose of operation:
WR – Identify & prosecute gun smugglers & drug cartels.
F&F – Build case against 2nd Amendment & American gun dealers.

I hope that clears up your confusion between a planned operation and one that was incompetently and illegally employed under Obama/Holder.

Guess what happened to the hundreds of Bush's and Issa's Wide Receiver guns? Do you know?

But it is quaint that you brought up this old failed rightwing meme. Fast and Furious! BWHHHAHAHAHAHAAHH. A total wipeout for the GOP.

During Operation Fast and Furious, by far the largest "gunwalking" probe, the ATF monitored the sale of about 2,000[1]:203[15] firearms, of which only 710 were recovered as of February 2012.[1]:
