GRAND COULEE DAM, Wash. – The giant concrete dams of the Pacific Northwest are overflowing with water. Wyoming has deployed National Guard troops to pile up sandbags. A federal official compares the impending situation to a bucking bull ready to storm out of his chute.
States across the West are bracing for major flooding in the coming weeks once a record mountain snowpack starts melting and sending water gushing into rivers, streams and low-lying communities. The catalyst will be warmer temperatures forecast for the next week that could set off a rapid thaw.

Ya know, just like they predicted the earth warming would.. wait, do just the opposite!

Over the previous decade there are more record high temperatures than record lows, and overall ice caps are melting significantly.
So, your interpretation is wrong because you're looking at a limited dataset.

Every year tens of thousands of individual record highs and record lows are measured in the US alone. Since the 70's the ratio of record highs:lows has gone from 0.7 to 2.0. [Source] [Original Source]

"It's cold somewhere" is not an argument against global warming, and "global warming means that there will never be record cold anywhere" is a pathetic strawman.

I'm no scientist and I don't claim to understand climate science, although I think "Global climate change" would be a more accurate title for current global warming theories. Either way, yes its always a good idea to look at all the relevant data, the very definition of a "trend" is that it involves more than one data point.

For example if we graph X=Y we get an upward trend, where X is an amount and Y is time, we get an upward trend and after we plot 1=1, 2=2, 3=3, etc on our XY graph, we can be fairly certain that the next data point will be 4=4. However if we just look at 5=5 and graph a single point on the graph, who knows what kind of trend that data point is part of.

A Sacred River Endangered by Global Warming
Glacial Source of Ganges Is Receding
"This may be the first place on Earth where Global Warming could hurt our very religion. We are becoming an endangered species of Hindus," said Veer Bhadra Mishra, an engineer and director of the Varanasi-based Sankat Mochan Foundation, an organization that advocates for the preservation of the Ganges. "The melting glaciers are a terrible thing. We have to ask ourselves, who are the custodians of our culture if we can't even help our beloved Ganga?"
[.........]
But recent reports by scientists say the Ganges is under even greater threat from global warming. According to a U.N. climate report, the Himalayan glaciers that are the sources of the Ganges could disappear by 2030 as temperatures rise.

The shrinking glaciers also threaten Asia's supply of fresh water. The World Wildlife Fund in March listed the Ganges among the world's 10 most endangered rivers. In India, the river provides more than 500 million people with water for drinking and farming.

The immediate effect of glacier recession is a Short-lived surplus of water. But eventually the supply runs out, and experts predict that the Ganges eventually will become a seasonal river, largely dependent on monsoon rains.....

Greenland glacier advancing 7.2 miles per year! The BBC recently ran

Himalayan Glaciers Not Shrinking
Glacial Experts Question Theory of Global Warming
15 Feb 07 - See Himalayan Glaciers Not Shrinking
.
.
Many people have asked why some glaciers in South America are melting.
I think it is perfectly understandable. Remember, we have had two of the
strongest El Ninos on record during the past 21 years. During an El Nino,
a narrow band of the Pacific Ocean warms by as much as 14 degrees. This
band of warm water travels east essentially along the equator until it slams
into South America.

It seems logical that the increased rainfall caused by El Nino, plus the
warmer winds blowing across the warmer water, could hasten glacial melt.
But let me say it again. I do not believe that this is caused by humans, I think
it is caused by the El Nino phenomenon, which is caused by underwater
volcanism, which is increasing due to the ice-age cycle.

With this said, let me point out many glaciers in South America remain
stable, and some - including the Pio XI Glacier and the Perito Moreno
Glacier - are growing. The Pio XI Glacier is the largest glacier in the
southern hemisphere. The Moreno Glacier is the largest glacier in Patagonia.

I find it curious that news reports do not mention these two glaciers.

A Sacred River Endangered by Global Warming
Glacial Source of Ganges Is Receding

Your story is from 2007.
New Delhi - 11 Feb 07 - Some glacial experts have questioned the alarmists theory on global warming leading to shrinkage of Himalayan glaciers. VK Raina, a leading glaciologist and former ADG of GSI is one among them.

He feels that the research on Indian glaciers is negligible. Nothing but the remote sensing data forms the basis of these alarmists observations and not on-the-spot research.

Raina told the Hindustan Times that out of 9,575 glaciers in India, research has been conducted only on about 50. Nearly 200 years data has shown that nothing abnormal has occurred in any of these glaciers.

The issue of glacial retreat is being sensationalised by a few individuals, the septuagenarian Raina claimed.

However, Dr RK Pachouri, Chairman, Inter-Governmental Panel of Climatic Change said it’s recently released fourth assessment report has recorded increased glacier retreat since the 1980s.

But Raina, who has been associated with the research and data collection in over 25 glaciers in India and abroad, debunked the theory that Gangotri glacier is retreating alarmingly.

It's funny how you post this and this:
http://www.debatepolitics.com/envir...ctions-proving-accurate-2.html#post1059551622

Within about an hour of eachother.

The trend of glaciers is clearly a decline, globally speaking. See previous post on glacier mass as well as: (arctic sea ice)

You're essentially looking at a situation like where this arrow is:
CicDW.png

And are concluding that glaciers are growing. In this case of "rapidly expanding" arctic sea ice, the expansion doesn't even make it back to the trend line.

Here's the sea ice data for each month.
CjBv9.png

You do understand that you're cherry picking only the expanding glaciers and are entirely ignoring the greater volume of shrinking, right?
