your thread title is a lie and you missed this opening paragraph

The trend is being led by wealthy Americans with assets over $2 million, many seeking to reduce their tax burden being that the U.S. is one of only two countries that tax people based on citizenship rather than residency. Axios warns the trend could be accelerated if the Biden administration's proposed tax measures are implemented.

trump was president last year.

your article has nothing to do with Trump. TDS is not a valid argument
no it doesn't but trump gets the blame for last years defections. I am sure you will blame biden if wealthy people leave due to his proposed tax increases.

I blame Democrat tax schemes, which is what the article implicated. TDS is treatable

America started taxing people with dual citizenship.

If you're an American, you got to pay American taxes no matter what other passports you hold.

So a lot of people have been renouncing their American citizenship so they don't have to pay American taxes as well as their other nation's taxes.

Renouncing your citizenship is almost impossible to reverse.

Who passed the 2017 tax-break-for-the-wealthy legislation?

The GOP.
and you think that is the reason for the ultra wealthy leaving?

Good. Let them leave. Don't let the door hit them on the way out.

Since Democrats are tax raisers, yes they deserve the blame when people leave due to taxes. That's not the case with tax cutters like Republicans.

As the wealth gap continues a greater number of people become rich and have the affordable option of renouncing citizenry that others, who've been separated further away from any semblance of wealth, through no fault of their own, can't afford themselves to gain wealth. So, some poster comes along to make a big deal out of these rich dudes, all less than 7.000 of them, skipping their responsibility that the hundreds of millions can't do. Way to go, dude. You really nailed it. As if had they stayed they'd have to skip steak & lobster for a night. Poor bastards. I'll miss'em.

why do the rich have a responsibility to pay for those who are less industrious or successful?

who is going to pay for all the socialist schemes you want if the rich keep leaving?

The kind of people who would bail on their country like this weren't paying taxes anyway.

Their defining characteristic is not their wealth, it's their disloyalty.

The real reason is probably the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) passed by Congress in 2010.

The wealthy could no longer surreptitiously hide their money overseas.

why should people be loyal to a nation that sees them as a cash cow to be milked and milked and milked some more?

but wait there were no dem tax schemes in 19 or 20
Wealthy people get that way by being smart and predicting what the future will bring. I suspect a lot of them knew that Biden would be installed into the Oval Office and that the Dems would be coming after their money.
