Here in Sweden, it was some stupid person that came up with a stupid idea, ” mobile-free-zones”.
In some subway trains would it now become prohibited to speak in your mobile!
Certain persons think evidently that it is really irritating to hear someone speak in mobile.
They think that it should be all quiet going by train (that if it is not enough quiet here in Sweden?)
Naturally can I also know that certain discussions that people have in the mobile can they to hold for themselves. But one cannot force persons to stop to speak for it!

Intend if I meet some on the train that I have not meet for a long time, must I stand there then all quiet? What is the difference between speaking in the reality and in the mobile?
Mobiles are our everyday existence. It is a big part of people's communication and lives and it is some man must faith himself live with.
The time is changed and people must learn to adapt itself after the new times. It is that that the common handshake now has been changed to hugs and kisses. Certain perhaps does not like it, but it is some man must accept.

:tink:

Don't you think that the ban came up because people started to play music out loud from their mp3 player mobilephones? No wonder there's a ban for having mobilephones with the sound on, at least i don't like to hear others music while I'm trying to think. I do think it's weird though that you can't even listen to you voice mail with out some old lady telling you to turn of you phone.

Yeah, sure, but do you mean that you cant stand hearing a mobilesignal?
I mean I have never heard someone putting on their mp3 on their mobile?
Thats like putting on a stereo, and thats obviously not OK.
And also, how many minutes is it that you are going by subway? not many probably. Thees few minutes of your life I think you must accept that mobiles is a very big part of peoples life now a days, you cant forbid it.:naughty

yeah never got this mobile phone ban in sweden really sucks though... but wasn't it just a trial? they are not going to have it as a permanent thing?

sweden kicks *** though we have polar-bears on the streets and naked women everywhere

i agree... right on sister!

thats true hastklo, it took away it since people thought that it where such a stupid idea!
But who would even have this stupid idea in mind anyway?

I hate cell phones...with a passion. I think people should be able to describe and understand the fundamentals of cell technology before they can have one...actually I don't, people are free to have them if they want, but it's just too much technology for some people and I'm tired of being nearly killed while riding my bike by drivers not paying attention cause they are on the damned cell phone.

This Sweden thing is probably over the edge too, though in America there are many opposed to allowing cell phone use on planes and such. Cell phones are annoying, but if people on cell phones are really that annoying to you, you can do what I do around extremely annoying people on cell phones...take part in their conversation.

You are absolutely right Ikari, when I see a person speak in the mobile in the car I become pissed off. Then, its about that the person that speaks in the mobile is a big traffic danger!
but that has nothing to do with the fact that people gets annoyed by people talking on the cell..

If a person would start to take part in two Swedes conversation the swedes would think the person is mentally ill or really stupid. Thats the way it is here, do I don't like it!!:x

You actually hear people listen to music, like a stereo, all the time. I guess it's more okay on the subway, but some people do it in the hall ways of schools also and that's really not accepteble.
I think that the Moderates are going to take away the ban now, of course they are the ones that uses their phones the most so. But it's good, why else did they fix the tunnels so that you could have signal every where. It would have been a waste of money, just as most of swedish politicans tests are. We all know how much money they used on "stockholms försöket"

And yeah, Sweden do rock! I love walking around in my bikini, hugging polar-bears and playing volleyball!

It is rude to take up the sonic space around you with a conversation not meant for the ears of others around you. It is rude to allow a child to make ongoing nonsense noises at conversational volume around other adults. When one tries not to eavesdrop on a rude persons cell call, they still get to put up with the nonsense syllables, dominating their sonic space .

Cellphones also inhibit and preclude normal friendly verbal intercourse with your fellow citizens.

Cellphones are rude.

I agree....

Technology as a whole is stifiling intercourse between citizens dammit.. I think we would be forced to intercourse more if we did away with computers, blackberries, laptops....... If we removed combustion vehicles people would have an easier time intercoursing with less noise and pollution, they are the devils sleds anyway. Comon people.... it's time to reverse this downward slope of evil technology we have been riding for 100 years. The devils playground lays in our technological intercourse...........

i personally think mobiles are evil, im tired of people i dont feel like talking to calling me... but still you cant just change soceity in a flash. the mobile phone ban has not worked at all

I don't know why you quoted me to make these sarcastic remarks.

Technology was not the subject of my post, people's rudeness was.

Because I found it funny that you deemed a piece of equipment rude....LOL Cell phones are not rude no matter what color the sky is in your world. SOME cell phone users are rude, but thats a personal habit not a mechanical one. Don't blame the technology, blame the user. It is not your responsibility or anyone elses to garner more intercourse between citizens. What makes you think I want to talk with everyone I see walking down the street? If you call me I have the option to pick up or not. The phone is simply a tool and like all tools can be used responsibly or not.

I'd go with most, but I'll admit its a judgement call.

Don't blame the technology, blame the user.

Is it ok if I blame them for their rude, anti-social, me first and screw the rest attitude ?
An attitude like , say , this mebbe ???

Well it's irrelavent. What you consider rude is relative

Who says I have to be social, you don't have to blame anyone for it. If I don't want to talk to you on the street then I won't. Believe it or not if your on the phone your probably talking to someone being social, it's just not in the manner you seen to prefer

Cellphones are rude.

Of course cell phones are rude, they're loud, irritating, and making people distracted when doing stuff as driving, but they are also an essential part of peoples everyday lives, and life would be so much more difficult without cellphones. When asked what the difference was between a person talking on the phone on the sub or two people having a conversation on the sub, the answer was that the cell phone talker was louder and speaking in a different way. I believe that that is bullshit, I think people actually get annoyed because they only get to hear half of the conversation, and people really like to eavesdrop, so when they can't hear everything, the conversation gets useless and therefore annoying.

What IF. You could put an EMP in the subways that shuts off all the cellphones inside the tube, wouldn't that be awesome?! Well the downside of that idea is that all electronic equipment gets wiped out and it'll become a huge problem in the case of an emergency.

they are also an essential part of peoples everyday lives,

No, they are not, people did just fine for thousands of years. I do fine today.

My parents raised me with an offset schedule in a two career household with no cell phone.

and life would be so much more difficult without cellphones.

Blah. Make appointments and keep them.

I agree with you, the mobilefree zones is stupid. I don't think they will work. Nobody cares about if you are allowed to speak in your cellphone or not, if the phone rings you pick it up and answer, right? It can be something important, like a business call or something like that.

But from another point of view, there can be really annoying when a person next to you on the bus speaks really loud, almost screaming in their cellphone.

People should quite simply speak calm and silent in their cellphones, and mobilefree zones should not be allowed :)

and why would that be so awesome!?
dont you agree with me about that it is enough quiet in the trains? (apart from people with unnecessary high volume on their mp3, that can be really annoying!) But except does idiots its really really quiet, I wouldn’t like to feel like I’m going with the train to the funeral or my own death?!

I dont understand this negative attitude to the technology's successes?,
Are you cautious that the humanity will be taken over by robots some day near perhaps?:2rofll:

No I don't agree with you. Becuase it's not about NOT talking I just explained what could be done against people who were talking really loud in their cellphones at the subway. People may talk as much as they want, frankly I have another idea and that's to put a plain and simple Radio into the tube. In that way you wouldn't feel like you were on your way to any funeral and you would rather enjoy a trip with the subway.

Although. If we're gonna make it possible to install radios in the subways then surely you can't use an EMP becuase then you'd just kill of the radio.
And what channel would they listen to? Hard rock? then people would go berserk just becuase they don't wanna listen to "other kinds of music than their own" But maybe they could have some sort of schedual, like 7-11 am: ballads and calm music becuase people are on their way to work etc etc.

Haha yes of course we need to take caution since "This is the matrix" And we need to make the first move befor the robots completly swarm over us!!!

It seems like there is a fair amount of ignorance in this thread. The OP is correct. Banning or attempting to ban mobile (cell) phone usage in public areas is rather silly. There is little to no distinction between the noise of a cell phone and two people having a conversation. In fact, the person on the cell phone is putting out half the noise that two people talking would be. It would be common courtesies that cell phone users should probably put their phones on silent or vibrate, when they are in public, as incoming calls can be loud and out of place.

My phone has expanded the capacity of my communication skills. I have even used it to provide emergency medical services on public transportation. Imagine that. Old man complains about his chest during a bus ride, and I call into 9/11. Ambulance is waiting for him at the next stop where he was indeed having a heart attack.

Bottom line, the non cell phone user is just as obtrusive as the mobile user anytime they speak themselves, so please, stop the ignorance. The mobile phone is a productive tool, not something to be regulated for a few peoples short attention span.

There are places where mobile phones operating are, in my opinion, inappropriate. In the U.S. there was a court decision making it illegal for private property owners to block mobile phones. Personally, I think that's wrong.

If I own a restaurant or am attending a concert or funeral, I shouldn't have to hear phones ringing or nitwits shouting into their phones.

I was in a very nice restaurant and a man at the next table took a call and proceeded to very loudly tell his friend what he was having for dinner. So, I very loudly told him what I was having, just in case his friend was interested, and proceeded with what my guests were having. The man glared and shut his phone. Other diners applauded.

I would say the average cell phone user makes half the noise two people make in their own conversation. That obviously isnt the case all of the time as you have stated though. I think the most simple solution, would have cell users put their phones to ring on silent, or vibrate, as I honestly see no difference between talking to a phone, or talking to the person next to me.
