Mike Johnson says Ghislaine Maxwell pardon would give him ‘pause,’ won’t get ahead of Trump

"House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, said he believes Ghislaine Maxwell, a key associate of Jeffrey Epstein currently serving 20 years in prison for conspiring to sexually abuse minors, should face "a life sentence."

"If you're asking my opinion, I think 20 years was a pittance," Johnson told NBC's Kristen Welker on "Meet the Press" July 27. "I think she should have a life sentence, at least."

His remarks to NBC come as many, including supporters of President Donald Trump, clamor for testimony from Maxwell. Some followers of the case have proposed a pardon in exchange, but Trump told reporters on July 25 he hadn't considered the move.

"I'm allowed to do it, but it's something I have not thought about," the president said."

At the moment, Johnson doesnt seem to be following Trump’s lead here, which is rather remarkable. This hint of indepedence on his part may be due what he is hearing from his constiuents. I hear the calls to Maga legislators are overwhelmingly preoccupied with the Epstein files. Fox News can bury the story and Trump can promote new conspiracy theories, but this Epstein matter seems to be something Maga will just not let go.

They may turn out to be true, but not as usual at the moment.

And while they would live for it all to just go away, I don't think their constiuents are letting them.

They seem to be demanding that these files be released.

On the other hand, the Maga crowd here all seem to want it buried.

Spine building is a process that takes decades. It's too late for Mike.
 
She will get immunity from prosecution. But if she does get pardoned, Trump will be blasted by the left even though he would only do it if the left suffers. The left will put it all on him and say nothing about who she exposes on the left.

If she is pardoned, and Trump isnt named, there isn't a single thing she will say that will be trusted.
 
I watched that interview, on Meet the Press, and it was a shit show level joke. All tap dancing and political message regurgitation.

Mike Johnson is literally trying to thread the needle on supporting Lord Trump in the face of realizing his loyalty is to a horrible human being.

It's public record that they were friends at one time. Clinton was also known to associate with him. Doesn't mean either man committed a crime. She is not going to have anything on those two. If there was anything on either man, it would have gotten out already. The dirt she is going to spill will be a disappointment on both sides.
 
This notion that if there were any dirt on Trump it would be out there is complete bullshit. There are a ton of powerful people in there that also have not come out yet.
 
I can't imagine a pardon or any other leniency. Even Trumpers, at least some of them, realize how evil she is.

You notice you just said Trump. The same can be said for Clinton. At least I acknowledge that they probably have nothing on Clinton.
You have to remember, he donated to the democratic party. Trump was a dem at the time. They both associated with other because they were both doners.
If Maxwell comes out with dirt on Trump and Clinton, you will say "see Trump is guilty like we said". If she doesn't have anything on either Trump or Clinton, you will say, "she is lying to cover up Trump". There is no winning with you libs.
 
Clinton is a rapist, which is something Dems generally don't have a problem saying. Or at the very least the party is pretty split on him at this point in history. Whereas Trump, from the right, there are no such caveats or admissions. Trump was literally convicted in a court of law last year and the standard line from the very reasonable both sides folks is that it was a rigged trial.

There's no winning with the right. It's always heads we win, tails the country loses.

Maxwell told a reporter in 2016 that Epstein filmed both Trump and Clinton having sex with underage girls.
Trumps resort was used as a hunting ground by Epstein and Maxwell.
Trump is on video telling a 10 year old girl that "he'll be dating her in 10 years"

I give a **** what party a sexual predator comes is affiliated with. Release every document.

Why would anyone on either side believe anything she said?
 

Its so crazy. Trump met Melania through Epstein and a guy who is now his special economic envoy, they hung out and partied together. Trump knew he trafficked in girls. Epstein taught at Barr's father's school. Trump hired the prosecutor that gave Epstein a sweetheart deal to be Labor Secretary. Epstein died on his watch.
