- Libertarian - Right
Which is why I expressly wrote that the concept of "Right-wing" libertarianism is new to history. It's rise had everything to do with the context of the Depression and the New Deal. Libertarians tended to oppose the New Deal. In other words, it was a new way for the elite, who were not really affected by the Depression, to protest. And Roosevelt was a Democrat. It's from this origin that "Right-wing" Libertarianism fell comfortably among Conservatives against Liberals. Ultimately, there isn't much difference between those who declare themselves as "Libertarian - Right" and Conservatives.
On the contrary, it allows one to be true to himself and not hampered by baggage. The non-thinkers confine themselves to a label, thus conform. For example, how many conservatives actually thought and think that tomato paste is a vegetable? How many enthusiastically believed that Global Warming was a liberal hoax? How many still believe that Trickle Down is in their interests even after corporations and banks received bail outs and began confiscating homes? We'll never really know because the masses simply followed (follow) along like ducklings to the GOP tune....like good conservatives.
I was a democrat at first because my family was. My dad had 9 brothers, all served in WW2, and all but 3 were fireman. We were a big union family, so we always supported the dems locally. My dad told me when I was getting ready to apply for the fire department that I should register to vote as a democrat, otherwise, my chances of getting hired were nil. I still had to take the test 5 years in a row before I was hired. As I got older, I realized that I disagreed with the dems and pubbies on certain issues, so I switched to Ind. I stopped voting for years as I felt it was a waste of time here in Md for obvious reasons. Then, after the 2016 election, I was struck by the amount of violence and destruction by left wing nutjobs. I now am a registered republican. The lefts lurch toward socialist principles and constant race baiting was a call to action for me as I don't want to see the country turn into a third world mess, so I voted for the first time in years this mid-term. I consider myself a conservative with libertarian leanings. I am against abortion, but feel the gov't. should but out of it. I am for decriminalization of drugs, and believe my right to bear arms is a god given right, and the government is wrong to infringe upon that right. I support reparations, but am against affirmative action. I am against the death penalty....period. So those are a few of my beliefs. I also am a marine, 1974-1976. Happy belated birthday brother.
