Like China, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam, Iran and other countries with repressive regimes, Freedom House has rated Mexico as “not free” in its latest Freedom of the Press 2016 report.

In a previous report, the organization listed Mexico as a “partly free” country. Among the events that led to downgrade the country to the same level of countries at war like Syria are the murders of journalists and constant attacks against the media.

You know, there's this thing called a cartel. And cartels are known for killing journalists.

So yeah. Not at all the same thing.

But the fact that these cartels target journalists, protesting students, opposition candidates etc. is indicative of the fact that they have a significant stake in defening the established politcal order in the country, given that they are essentially part of it. Have a look at this incident https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Iguala_mass_kidnapping and you will see that the line between the police, the cartels, and state , local and federal politics is often a blurred one.

Yeah, that makes sense, due to the heavy level of corruption.

But this guy was going for a "Mexicans are all evil we should keep them out of America" thing...

I´m not sure he was TBH but thats for him to determine.

He's a self professed white nationalist.

Well if he was that would be a pretty crap argument to make given that it would strengthen the case for those attempting to flee.
