Pursuant to Sections 7.(a)(1) and (a)(2) of the Endangered Species Act of 1973,as amended and supplemented (“ESA”), Reclamation is to utilize its authoritiesin furtherance of the purposes of the ESA, and insure that any action authorized, funded, or carried out by such agency is not likely to jeopardize the continuedexistence of any endangered species or threatened species or result in thedestruction or adverse modification of habitat of such species.

This is not being reported by ANY mainstream news organization. Donald Trump and California Governor Jerry Brown have reached an agreement regarding California's water resources and endangered species. To say that I am pleasantly surprised is a huge understatement. The document was signed on 12 December by the directors of the respective agencies, but it was the result of negotiations between Brown and Trump.

With all the negative news about Trump coming from the courts, it is easy to see why this passed under the radar, and was not reported. However, credit needs to be given where credit is due.

Thank you Governor Brown, and thank you, Mister President. This agreement was badly needed, and you both came through.

Isn't go under the radar...these people know the size, shape, color, and consistency of Trumps bowel movements.

This story simply doesn't fit the narrative. It would be as if Steven King decided to write a children's book story.

Red:
The AP reported it back in October, the LA Times reported on it in September, and the Sacramento Bee reported on it in August.

Blue:
Well, it is a regional issue, and it's one managed by Bureau of Reclamation within the Dept. of Interior, not by the White House. (I wonder if Trump even knows about it.)

National news organizations generally report national news and national politics more so that the details of regional/local policy; every outlet has to choose its scope for there's too much going on to report it all. The exception is, of course, regional/local events that have a sensationalist nature of some stripe. To wit, why, for example, CNN, MSNBC and Fox cable news bother to spend whole days on, say, a "mall mass shooting in Muskogee," but let there be one and it'll occupy hours and hours of national cable news coverage. There's also the matter that POTUSes control nation cable news coverage -- what pertains to a POTUS and/or what a POTUS talks about occupies the bulk of what cable news networks discuss.

He doesn't need journalists does he? Trump just had to send out a tweet or two and it would have been covered. He could have also held a press conference with Gov. Brown and made an announcement. It actually would be a great way to take some heat off the current funding issue and show he can work with democrats to get things done. Heck, he can talk about how this agreement won't kill any endangered animals and pose with one....oh wait:

maybe he should keep the wildlife out of it...

:)

Was not actually signed until yesterday. The other reports were about the negotiations. Reading is your friend.

As I wrote, "it is a regional issue," not the Magna Carta or Declaration of Independence, or even NAFTA.

State agreement on water resources isn't exactly prime time material.

Any real journalists work independently or in alternative media. The corporate media tends to exclude real journalists.

Giving kudos to Trump when he deserves it is not a priority of anti-Trumpers and this kind of environmental protection is not a priority of Trump’s base, so no, you won’t see these kinds of stories get much press.

Real journalists seek truth, not click bate. Real journalists aren’t good for the “bottom line”. And as a result people who went into journalism initially with good intent end up quitting or switching to corporate media because they can’t earn a living doing it otherwise. It is a scary trend.

As an ordinary citizen, I have always admired the journalists, and was lucky enough to have been exposed to Walter Cronkite and a few other great men back before TV. In her first job as a young journalist, I had a few social encounters, drinking at the bar, with Sharyl Attkisson. I think she's great.
