Melania entered the political fray? Is she fair game for Media?
My thoughts are by going public with an official press release prior to one being fired, stating they do not deserve to serve in the WH, well she has entered the fray

First lady Melania Trump’s office has released a blistering statement about the top deputy to national security adviser John Bolton, saying Mira Ricardel “no longer deserves the honor” of serving the White House.
“It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that she no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House,” Melania Trump’s communication director Stephanie Grisham said in a statement directed toward Ricardel.

Genuine question, has this ever happened before?

I do not know. But to put out such a press release, well I doubt it has occurred previously

Imagine the squeals from the Right, if this was Michelle Obama who got the National Security Adviser fired over a squabble she had with her while flying to Africa. But, of course, since this is Melania, the Reicht will blame the Dep NSA.

If Michelle Obama acted like Melanoma , the far right would be screeching for her arrest. Oh wait - they screeched over EVERYTHING Michelle said or did. Remember the outrage over her sleeveless dress. The far right called her a whore for exposing her shoulders. And now they praise the porn pictures of Melanoma. Hypocrites much?

To my knowledge, First Ladies have taken strong policy positions going back to at least Eleanor Roosevelt. But calling for the removal of someone in an important office of the Executive branch before the President or Spokesperson has had a chance to speak on the matter? That's a new one on me.

To answer the thread question, the First Lady is always fair game proportionate to how she comports herself.

She entered the political fray a long time ago with the whole "Cyber Bullying" thing with her Husband being a key cyber bully. She's been fair game ever since, so I disagree this is the first time she has been free game.

Thing is she was a problem child, well according to the press.

Regardless, Melania IMHO is fair game. Unless I am convinced otherwise. I previously considered her off limits. Now, no

Yet Ricardel had frequently clashed with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis while leading President Trump’s transition, current and former officials told The Washington Post last month, and her reemergence at the White House prompted suspicion at the Pentagon that she was undermining Mattis.

Three current and two former White House officials said Tuesday that Ricardel had berated people in meetings, yelled at professional staff, argued with the first lady and spread rumors about Mattis.

Well, on this specific topic she is certainly fair game, if the story is true.

Reagan Administration; Chief of Staff Regan....vs Nancy Reagan....

Influence in the White House Edit

"The Gaze": Reagan watches as her husband is sworn in for a second term by Chief Justice Warren Burger, on January 20, 1985.
Donald Regan's 1988 memoir, For the Record: From Wall Street to Washington, exposes his disagreements with Reagan, for the first time revealing publicly that she had a personal astrologer (then-yet-unnamed Joan Quigley), with whom she consulted and who helped steer the President's decisions. Regan wrote:

Virtually every major move and decision the Reagans made during my time as White House Chief of Staff was cleared in advance with a woman in San Francisco [Quigley] who drew up horoscopes to make certain that the planets were in a favorable alignment for the enterprise.[128][129]

Nancy Reagan stated in her memoirs, "I felt panicky every time [Ronald Reagan] left the White House"[130] following the assassination attempt, and made it her concern to know her husband's schedule: the events he would be attending, and with whom.[13] Eventually, this protectiveness led to her consulting an astrologer, Joan Quigley, who offered insight on which days were "good", "neutral", or should be avoided, which influenced her husband's White House schedule.[131] Days were color-coded according to the astrologer's advice to discern precisely which days and times would be optimal for the president's safety and success.[13]

The White House Chief of Staff, Donald Regan, grew frustrated with this regimen, which created friction between him and the First Lady. This escalated with the revelation of the Iran–Contra affair, an administration scandal, in which the First Lady felt Regan was damaging the president.[132] She thought he should resign, and expressed this to her husband, although he did not share her view. Regan wanted President Reagan to address the Iran-Contra matter in early 1987 by means of a press conference, though Reagan refused to allow her husband to overexert himself due to a recent prostate surgery and astrological warnings.[133] Regan became so angry with Reagan that he hung up on her during a 1987 telephone conversation. According to the recollections of ABC News correspondent Sam Donaldson, when the President heard of this treatment, he demanded—and eventually received—Regan's resignation.[134] Vice President George H. W. Bush is also reported to have suggested to Reagan to have Regan fired.[135] In his 1988 memoirs, Regan wrote about Reagan's consultations with the astrologer, the first public mention of them, which resulted in embarrassment for the First Lady.[136] Reagan later wrote, "Astrology was simply one of the ways I coped with the fear I felt after my husband almost died... Was astrology one of the reasons [further attempts did not occur]? I don't really believe it was, but I don't really believe it wasn't."[137]

Ronald and Nancy Reagan together in the Oval Office, 1985
Nancy wielded a powerful influence over President Reagan.[138] Again stemming from the assassination attempt, she strictly controlled access to the president and even occasionally attempted to influence her husband's decision making.[138][139]

Beginning in 1985, she strongly encouraged her husband to hold "summit" conferences with Soviet general secretary Mikhail Gorbachev, and suggested they form a personal relationship beforehand.[13] Both Ronald Reagan and Gorbachev had developed a productive relationship through their summit negotiations. The relationship between Nancy Reagan and Raisa Gorbacheva was anything but the friendly, diplomatic one between their husbands; Reagan found Gorbacheva hard to converse with and their relationship was described as "frosty".[140] The two women usually had tea and discussed differences between the USSR and the United States. Visiting the United States for the first time in 1987, Gorbacheva irked Reagan with lectures on subjects ranging from architecture to socialism, reportedly prompting the American president's wife to quip, "Who does that dame think she is?"[141]”

Yes I saw the hypocrisy, and let that slide. Now, fair game she entered the fray, free, clear and willingly

I don't know which forum you came from but your style isn't admired or appreciated here.

While I agree when the first time she was politically free game, I agree that she is free game today. And to think, the right attacked Michelle Obama because of what she wore and now complain about Melania being attacked for her ACTUAL comments.

It's sort of interesting that Melania has taken the gloves off.

Yes, she's fair game.

Why would she need to put out a press release on this. Can't she just walk over to her husband and talk to him about it? Did she talk to him and he didn't do anything or said no?

Weird, but with this pile of dog **** administration, not surprising.

Fair game. The Trump family is NOT entitled to jack****. Nor were the Clintons. Nor were the Bush's. Nor are the Obamas.

The line between the Trump family and the official White House has been blurred by Trump since day one. No president in recent times has been involved more in nepotism than President Vagina-Grabber, Bone Spurs, Stable Genius.

Something the Trump family does not understand and apparently will not accept is that if you are going to dance to the music you have to pay for the piper.

Melania doesn't get to skate. But it is good to see her true colors fly. I am not surprised. The whole family now seems to be going full authoritarian.

That's a two-edged sword you're swinging around. If Michelle was treated by the right the way that Melania is treated by the left they would be called misogynists. How's that ***** hat fitting these days?

That was a massive bungling, considering her Husbands track record. Could have picked kids education, or something other that bullying.

Pretty much...they get into politics they can be criticized and basically open season for that thing. They do things like trying to improve the health of children and their poor diets, like Michelle did and got attacked for (or some other charitable type of work), then no. The Michelle one really confused me. Like people got mad that she wanted to address the growing obesity and sedentary lifestyles of kids these days? Like...no one see's this growing issue as a problem?

Till now, and the feeding frenzy will be something to watch and see. Needless to say she will be asked about this when she has a presser. Be interesting to hear the response

Exactly. Public statement. Why? Trashing the person, who perhaps was not as yet fired by the people who are supposed to be in charge of that decision.

If Melania feels it's okay to lift the relatively anonymous Mira Ricardel up for national public censure, then Melania sure as heck is fair game.

Until the time comes when only Fox News and Breitbart are permitted at press conferences. When that day comes Melania won't be asked jack and President Stable Genius will only field soft balls.

Well she is now fair game, unlike Michelle was. The hate, the racist memes were just plain disgusting. Glad I live in a Country where that would not be tolerated by the PM, Cabinet and so on

Genuine question, has this ever happened before?

Yes. Members of the media started going after Jackie Kennedy, including suggesting affairs, when that was her husband''s balliwick, Then John died a martyr's death and they backed off. It turned out later that those machinations were created by Rose Kennedy who suspected a coming divorce, which turned out to be true. A month prior to Jack's assassination, Jackie had engaged a well known divorce attorney from Texas where the clan had no influence, presenting him with a dossier about Marilyn Monroe and another with other liaisons discovered and documented by a PI Jackie had hired. Her goal, keeping custody of her children.

Toward the end of WWII and even after FDR's death, certain members of the media went after Eleanor Roosevelt, citing her as a lesbian communist. She responded by killing them with kindness. Whatever her personal choices, she was a great woman who loved her country. But some never forgave her for pushing integration of the armed forces.

Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams, wife of John Quincy Adams, our 6th president was accused by the media supporting his opposition, accused her of being a Tory and a spy. She was also an immigrant.

Andy Jackson's wife is a story in and of herself, as are the many duels he fought over her honor while serving the nation.

First ladies are not voted into office, they are in place, regardless of their own desires, to support their husbands, and therefore not fair game. However our press believes everyone is a fair target because as the self appointed 4th estate the people have a right to know, including whatever lies the 4th estate holds as true. They claim the public has the right to know, and I call BS. Nothing is written in the Constitution or any other laws giving the people the right to know. WWII releases of information proved that true. People were given false data to confuse the enemy. No one who was patriotic complained.

The people may want to know, there is no right to know. The same with First Ladies. The people may want to know, especially the prurient, but there is no right to know her favorite underwear or choice of toilet paper.
