'F*****g Jews... Jews are responsible for all wars in the world.' No, these are not new signs of a Neo-Nazi rally; this is allegedly what the actor said when arrested for DUI. Now he apologizes
Ynetnews and Reuters

Oscar-winning director and actor Mel Gibson apologized on Saturday for driving while drunk and for his "belligerent behavior" towards the deputy sheriffs who arrested him.

"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable," Gibson said in a statement issued by his publicist.

If there is one thing that drunks don't do--it's lie. When I am drunk, I cannot help but tell the truth. People lose their inhibitions when drunk and say things that they truly believe. I don't think I am unique to this kind of thing.

Mel Gibson is a disgusting human being, and I hope his reputation is shattered by this. Mr. Holier-than-though is unquestionably anti-Semitic. I hate Christians who pretend to be religious, decent people when deep down is an evil, hateful person. Go to hell, Mel Gibson.

I agree! Being drunk is certainly no excuse for this type of hate speech. Passion of the Christ my arse. This guy's a loser and now everyone knows it. I of course knew it before when he suggested his wife probably wouldn't make it into heaven. What a sanctimonious batshite brained phuck!

I appreciated his apology. I thought it was rather refreshing. Oh, and I was a cop for thirty years and drunks lie through their teeth. For example, I never met a drunk driving a car who'd had more than two beers. Family fights with drunks? Never laid a finger on him/her. Drunk murderers? I have no idea how that body got on my floor and I never saw that gun in my life.

I'm not arguing that anything Mr. Gibson said is true or untrue but I am hoping to dispel the myth that drunks don't lie. Of course, I've heard women don't lie, either.

In the first fifty years I knew my father I never once heard him make an anti-semitic comment. Many of his business associates were Jewish. Then one night he and an associate were drinking. They got in an argument and my father said some terrible things. The next morning he was unbelievably ashamed and was on the phone apologizing. The apology was accepted but I'm sure his associate never forgot. I never heard my father make another anti-semitic remark in his life.

I think the funniest part is after having been caught driving drunk, attempting to run away, and saying a bunch of crap about jews he apparently called a female officer sugar ****! How positively charming.

"A law enforcement source says Gibson then noticed another female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar ****?"

If it were anyone else I might cut them some slack or believe they were just having a bad day but I've heard this guy completely sober explaining who was and was not going to get into heaven. So you just got a laugh and call a dipshite a dipshite and know it couldn't have happened to a better person. :rofl But yeah I agree drunks lie all the time. They also say totally inappropriate shite that they might not say sober.

Okay, then there is an exception. A drunk lies about how much he/she has had to drink. Feelings, however, are different. You can usually rely on what a drunk says when talking about their own feelings. Trust me, a drunk doesn't come up with prejudices unless they are already there. Your father is anti-Semitic. Seriously.

I'm not buying it msn makes no mention of anti-semetic comments.

And furthermore apparently the original source material is an alleged police report on a tabloid web site called the TMZ.

I'm with you on this, TOT. Has anyone checked the Smoking Gun for the police report?

i dont have enough fingers to count all the women who told me they love me while they were loaded
only to sober up and change their minds as they put their panties back on

time will tell about this alleged douchebag

Sources say Mee (arresting officer) was told Gibson's comments would incite a lot of "Jewish hatred," that the situation in Israel was "way too inflammatory." It was mentioned several times that Gibson, who wrote, directed, and produced 2004's "The Passion of the Christ," had incited "anti-Jewish sentiment" and "For a drunk driving arrest, is this really worth all that?"

supposedly the original report was changed
not surprising, given the double standard, and so i find it is plausible
but we shall see
besides, if it didnt happen, why exactly is he apologizing?
for driving drunk?

Sorry, but I don't buy that drunks tell the truth about feelings or anything else. A couple who are drunk and fighting are telling the truth when they say they hate each other? Doesn't seem to hold up. And the example already given of the drunk who says he/she loves someone and the next morning says, "I said what?" Or the drunk who spends the evening crying in his beer. Remorse? Nah! Looking for pity.

DJH: He apologized for driving drunk, endangering other people, acting like a jackass, verbally abusing the police officers, and saying terrible things. Some people apologize for things like that. Some don't.

Please this news is all over the place. Here's a story from my area paper

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/movies/1402AP_Gibson_Remarks.html

If any of this were untrue and he never said hateful things about jews his PR people would be out front and center denying this stuff faster than you could say WTF? But they're not. They're instead "apologizing." Besides it's not that hard to believe. Apparently his father thought the holocaust was "mostly fiction."

I don't know if he made the comments or not but I do know when one gets drunk they sometime make a fool out of theirselves..........When I was young and in my boozing days I know I did....................

All I havre to say to your righteous hypocrites is "He without sin cast the first stone."

Navy Pride, it is a moment of shared agreement. May it be less rare.

Yeah, never stopped a conservative or Christian before. I seem to remember some of those in congress and the senate complaining about Clinton having an affair when THEY were having an affair themselves.

I don't know anyone who cared about President Clinton having an affair. Now perjury, that's a little different. It's a legal matter. So we most often hear about the affair from people who desperately want to forget the perjury.

Then you missed most of the conservative side of the house bitching about the fact he had an affair. Take a look at Gingrich for examples.

Yes, they also bitched about him lying to (which actually was justified for them to bitch about), but the majority were more upset over the affair IMO.

Well I'd say that getting a blow job in the oval office while discussing troop movements in Kosovo is not exactly presidential behavior.

Meh drunken lies are common. I once heard a drunken guy ranting he was from planet yaddayadda and was the last warrior under siege from warriors from planet so and so.
That is not to say Mel Gibson is not representantive of hollyweird in any way but drunks lie all the time to get whatever they want or are under pressure in any way.

That being said ..I think Mel was just repping hollyweird as accurately as he could.
What kind of multimilliondollar dumbass would drive drunk anyway?
The very definition of a drunken lapse in judgement.

Oh brother. Yeah, perjury about an affair--that's some real serious business.

Everyone can find examples of when people are drunk and lie, but none of you are going to fool me. Someone doesn't pull something out of their butt that they don't feel when they are not in control of themselves. I went to college, and I drank once a month. Thus, I was sober the majority of the time when I was out, and I watched drunk people and the things they said.

Dont get me wrong. I agree with you in thinking he probably said what was on his mind and his apology isnt worth a read but then he says and has said crazy crap when hes sober for years. I would not defend him.

I just dont agree with the blanket statement that all drunks tell the truth. Only because they dont.

Okay, I can agree with you there. But I still believe that when a drunk person is discussing their feelings--something that is truly a part of them--they are almost incapable of lying. Someone doesn't pull prejudice out of nowhere--that is something that is deep within people.

I didn't know that Mel Gibson had made a statement that he didn't think his wife would make it to heaven. I wish I could be there when he finds out that there is no heaven and no afterlife.

Their pimps usually instruct them to say that as to incite better working relationships among clients.

What a great Christian role model Mel is!
Intolerant, bigoted, sexist, and rich! A republican poster boy.

I agree with your sentiments.

What he actually said does coincide with what some republicans say. I think you would be remiss were you to ignore the fact that what he says also coincides with what many democrats say as well. Of course, if it was somebody like Cynthia McKinney or members of the ISM/PSM/ANSWER expressing these same attitudes, many on the left try to obfuscate the inherent antisemitism. I don't think you do that, but there are plenty who do, and the degree of antisemitism that has crept into leftist rhetorec over the last 10-20 years makes it much more part and parcel of the left than it does the right.

If you would simply pay attention to who confronts the things like Auftrag and Uncle, for instance, you would notice a good many republicans doing so. Unfortunately, those advancing the Islamist brand of antisemitism often meet little resistance from those on the left. I think that's a big problem, myself, and I say this as a registrered democrat that until the democrats show the same ability to distance themselves from their extremist element as do the republicans, I'm afraid the party will continue to flounder.

That wouldn't be nearly as fun as if there was an afterlife to which his wife gained admission while he was denied.
