Meadows dismisses Hatch Act concerns at RNC: 'Nobody outside of the Beltway really cares'

Trump administration officials have come under scrutiny for accepting speaking roles at the RNC.

8/26/20
White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on Wednesday dismissed accusations that Trump administration officials violated federal law by speaking at the Republican National Convention, arguing that critics have overstretched the bounds of the Hatch Act. "Nobody outside of the Beltway really cares. They expect that Donald Trump is going to promote Republican values and they would expect that Barack Obama, when he was in office, that he would do the same for Democrats," he continued. "So listen, this is a lot of hoopla that's being made about things, mainly because the convention has been so unbelievably successful."

Trump administration officials, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Economic Director Larry Kudlow and counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway, have come under scrutiny for accepting speaking roles at the RNC, positions which critics claim violate federal law banning most executive branch employees from political activity. The White House has largely ignored those concerns.

Meadows reasoning? If most Americans are unaware of a law, then the law need not be adhered to.

He is a former Congressman and current Trump Trump Chief of Staff. It is the mindset of the current GOP. To hell with laws, might makes right.

This Republican lawlessness has to stop. Please vote for Democrat candidates. Just vote a straight Democrat ticket.

PS - Meadows falsely claimed to hold a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of South Florida for many years in his official biography maintained by the Office of the Historian of the U.S. House of Representatives. In actuality, he graduated from the University of South Florida with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree. Dishonest to the core.

Interesting. Republicans are for law and order, if they get to pick which laws.

So if we "don't care" about the rules, then we don't need to follow them?

Interesting.

Well "every politician does it" so no big....

Did you hear about Obamagate? Obama literally did the WORST crime to Trump in American history!

Lincoln was like "damn I thought I had it bad, just trying to watch a play and he shot me, but Trump is really getting a raw deal from those terrible people in the media!"
(That's an actual quote when Lincoln was contacted for comments!)

Ikari, I don't care if you shoplift today. So have at it.

I know drinking and driving is wrong, but it's too much fun not to, right...?

We know Trump, the GOP Senate, the GOP House, and their followers would have gone bat-**** crazy if Obama had done this in 2012, or Obama for Clinton in 2016.

Meadows was/is a leading member of the Freedom Caucus. Dismissing the Constitution is what Individual One ‘The Emoluments Man’ and his cabal are about.

Yes, that does open up all sorts of options.
