Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Saturday unleashed blistering criticism of former President Trump, blaming him for sparking the attack on the Capitol while also explaining why he didn't vote for a conviction.

McConnell also suggested that Trump could face criminal prosecution for his actions.
"There's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it. The people that stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president," McConnell said.”

i guess Mitch is not worried about Trump running in 2024. Too bad he did not have the courage to stand by his conviction. The Republican Party has been damaged severely an once again Trump made this country look like a failing and foolish empire with the help of the republican party

He voted to acquit. Actions speak louder than words!

I was just reading that Trump has been showing concerns about criminal prosecution over his actions in regards to the rioting, so you can bet McConnell won't be getting a valentine card from Trump regardless of his vote.

Disagree, I think he actually did stand by his conviction, he believes 100% that this impeachment was unconstitutional, so he stood by his belief, voted accordingly, and then blistered Trump in a speech.

He made some valid points, that by voting to convict a PRIVATE CITIZEN, they are setting precedent to prevent private citizens from running for office etc....

McConnell is no longer credible, he voted to acquit only to turn around and say otherwise.

All he did is what the other Republicans who voted for Trump did today, enable Presidents to harm Congress and kill police officers while doing so. Our new standard is there is no impeachable action, especially when committing the act and skipping town before Congress can act.

No Trump supporter or Trump “Republican” can call themselves the “party of law and order” or any sense of respect for the Constitution ever again.

McConnell and the republicans couldn't vote to impeach, it was unconstitutional and it would have killed at least half the support of the party. Wait til 2022, several notable republicans are going to be primaried.

Nope.

no, he was impeached as President, constitution requires that there be a trial, which this was.

McConnell provided a valuable statement for possible civil lawsuits against Trump.

McConnell is a coward and literally absolved Congress from being able to impeach a President who incited a riot, sat back and watched it unfold, ended up with loss of life including Capital Police, have members of his own party targeted for hanging including his own vice President, only to say “well I guess they are more upset than you are“ (to another Republican begging for help.)

McConnell sold out the Constitution and the nation today.

If a President can now do what Trump accomplished there is no grounds to impeach any other President for any reason.

No Trump supporter or Trump “Republican“ can claim being pro law enforcement or pro Constitution ever again.

McConnell literally gave a cop killer a pass today.

Of the President, Vice President, or civil officer,

When the trial started, which one of those, was Trump?

Agree with everything he said. Better than nothing, I guess.

He voted to acquit. Actions speak louder than words!
The prick chiseled his way out of protecting the Constitution with his BS
The party is falling apart- and for those that think Trump will fade away, well he won't

We saw Kevin condemn him and then back away & visit him in FL

If Biden has a strong economy in 24, he will win again

Think he means Convict?
wouldnt matter....the process started when he was still in office, he was impeached, constitution requires that there be a trial....senate took a vote on the constitutionality of it, and and voted in favor of going to trial....
