I can't say I blame him.......;)

DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Arizona Sen. John McCain, a likely Republican presidential contender in 2008, joked on Wednesday he would "commit suicide" if Democrats win the Senate in November.

McCain, on a visit to Iowa to campaign for Republican congressional candidates, was asked his reaction to a potential Democratic takeover of the Senate in the November 7 elections.

"I think I'd just commit suicide," McCain told reporters, to accompanying laughter from Republicans standing with him. "I don't want to face that eventuality because I don't think it's going to happen."

Sounds like that "if Bush wins again im moving to Canada" tripe from yesteryear.

McCain is an a$$wipe. I hope the dems win. We don't need him in the Senate anymore since he thinks it's okay to torture people. I loved it when I heard someone say that they were impressed that the president was able to accomplish in such a short amount of time what the Vietnamese were unable to accomplish in 5 years. He has sold his soul to the devil.

The difference being, they were not joking.

As someone who's married to a woman who has Bi-Polar disorder and has attemted suicide, this is just deplorable.

I would have seriously considered him if he ran for pres. now I can't.

This is worse than Dean's "yeehaw" IMO.

Oh come on dude!

I've personally attempted suicide at least 4 times. I wasn't offended by this at all! It's a figure of speech.

I'm sorry, but the fact that his WIFE has attempted suicide is different than if anyone outside of his family attempted such. It's really quite thoughtless on his part. Do you genuinely think that there is no difference between his wife and you?

Yeah, sure you would........:rofl

If John McCain did not commit suicide when he was held as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton I don't think he would now........

Lighten up my left wing friends........It was a joke......

Nope I fully expect 'fair and balanced T.V.' to replay this over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again while making jokes about how stupid it was to ruin his political career this way. I want Dave Letterman and Jay Leno to have three weeks worth of material on this and Saturday Night Live better not let it go either. If they don't then there's no such thinng as 'liberal' media.

I never understood what was wrong with Dean't "yeehaw" I thought it was wildly entertaining and refreshing to see some unbridled enthusiasm vs the same stuffy polished and practicied dribble politicians normally blow out there arse.

He probably wasn't thinking. It's a figure of speech. Everyone knows he wasn't serious and had he thought long and hard over what to say he'd probably not have said it but come on everyone says things without thinking. Only a$$wipes make a big deal out of crap like this. Most peoples mouths don't have a political correctness filter running 24/7. And thank God for that it's bad enough as it is.

LOL Are you trying to call me an a$$wipe? If so, KMA$$wipe. ;)

Personally, I thought it was a strange thing to say. I like politicians who are willing to work with both parties.

Well then I hope McCain gets the opportunity to keep his promise.

huh? So you're offended that he made a lighthearted joke without thinking long and hard about it first. But now you hope he does it? :spank:

And Galen......

don't do that again!

Yes I am still offened by it, I was just playing with his "figure of speech".

No one knows what it's like to find someone you love almost dead until it happens, I understand that. But this is a powerful congressman not some bar fly with 1 too many under the belt.

Nothing was wrong with it until the convervative pundobots got ahold of the news.

I don't have any personal experience with suicide but I can see and respect how it might touch a nerve. But I forgive people slips like that 'cause I say inappropriate shite all the time. Most highly entertaining people do!;)

He didn't mean it to be offensive though.

I'm sure he didn't mean it to be offensive I just read or hear the word and the worst time in my life comes rushing back. It's really my deal but woof.

Meh. I have had to pick up people off the ground a few times and McCaines non-PC retort did not bother me a bit.
I found it refreshing his PC filter gets a rest now and again as well.
I actually like him better than before with him acknowledging he is human and makes mistakes. If you really have a problem with McCain speaking his mind then Sab is right. It is really your problem and you can address it by not voting for him. I personally would not vote for him for other reasons.

Yes there are obviously differences between me and his wife, and even more notable differences between me and him, in which I would say that I have substantially more right to indignation than he. And I'm not indignant, it's a figure of speech. If I expect people to get off their PC high horse, I have to hold myself to the same standard, and there is no acceptable reason to get pissed off about this.

I finally saw the footage this morning, and it wasn't funny. There is a funny way to say that. For me, that is not something I say. It might have been funny if he said, "I'd die." But this is a person who considers himself willing to work with both parties. After all, he reprimanded Obama because he felt Obama was not keeping a promise in working together. So tell me why someone who claims to work with both parties would say he was going to "commit suicide"? He's not a silly guy, so things like this aren't seen as humorous.

I have lost all respect for McCain, and I hope that the dems take over the senate so we can all see what an a$$hole he really is. And as someone said above, then we can hope he'll keep his promise.

I have lost all respect for McCain (and it's not because of this--it's because he caved with the detainee bill), and I hope that the dems take over the senate so we can all see what an a$$hole he really is. And as someone said above, then we can hope he'll keep his promise.

Didn't see a thing about this on the news or anywhere.... Damn liberal media! Protecting it own but ruining Howard Dean!

YEEEHAAAAW!

I'm just one of those guys that doesn't care for B.S. much. And I actually was considering voteing for him... He had me fooled, I thought he was moderate but he's just hopped on the hate wagon.

Maybe we should send him back to 'Nam where he can be tortured into signing a statement saying he's a baby killer?
