The Beltway Boys just threw this [McCain picking Jeb Bush as his running mate] out there a couple of minutes ago and it got me to thinking, what if:
  • McCain picks Bush
  • Hillary picks Obama
and this turns out to be our choices for '08.

Who would you vote for?

Fellow Democrats are going to kill me for this one.

I chose John McCain and Jeb Bush over Hillary Clinton/Barack Obama.

Last time around, there was not a third-party candidate on the Idaho ballot, so if that is the case again I'll have to go with Hilary and Obama. The
Bush Crime Family/NeoCons are probably getting scared that they won't have anyone in the White House.
Seriously, what the hell has Jeb done?
With republicans trying to distance themselves from W, is it a good idea to have another Bush on the ticket?

I will go on record and say that there is absolutely no way that any Republican candidate will pick Jeb Bush as their running mate. This isn't to say that Jeb Bush might not have a possible chance in the future...but any Republican is going to want to distance themselves as far as possible from GWB if they have any chances in the 2008 race...to link another Bush on the ticket would be suicide for the Republican nominee.

Absolutely agree. It would be political suicide.

For this to be true, one must assume the Republican's listen to reason.

If I were you lefties I would not underestimate Jeb Bush.........When it comes to GWB it is like night and day...I don't think he wants to be VP though............He would definitely carry the Hispanic vote..........

McCain......yes.

Bush, any Bush... no

We do need strong national leadership.. maybe another Reagan.. but who..Powell ?
Swartzkoff(sp?)
The present governor of California or New York ???
Is there a manpower shortage in our country ??

:rofl More good yucks, thanks Navy Pride! Can we "Book it"? BTW if GWB & are Night and Day and you're madly in lockstep with GWB that must mean that you think Jeb sucks?

I'm with you on that one.

My top person as of right now is Biden but the nominations aren't in and the debates haven't started so it's up in the air.

Clinton/Obama in that matchup...but no way in hell does Hillary or anyone else pick Obama as their running mate. He'd outshine the nominee. And this country won't elect another Bush for at least a generation... if ever.

My prediction:

Clinton/Richardson vs. Romney/Huckabee.

Call me a fool, but I'm still hoping Gore gets in the race.

I don't care for Hillary's mixed message on the war, or McCain's support for this tragedy of a war.

No one will get my vote who does not promise to get us out of Iraq.

A Gore/Obama ticket? Now you're talking.

I'm confused? I can understand that Hillary is not your first choice but choosing McCain instead for me is choosing someone who on the most important issues of this time I disagree with strongly i.e. Irag, Abortion, Gay Rights, Border Security, Economics and Environment.

I do agree with Hillary and Obama on virtually everyone of those and many other issues.

My question then is if you actually disagree with most if not all of a candidates positions how could you vote for him or her?

You cite Biden as your choice someone I like and respect very much but Biden and McCain are as different as Hillary McCain. The fact is that Biden and Hillary agree on almost every issue with Iraq being perhaps their largest gulf...and if anything Hillary and McCain are more in synch with each other on Iraq than Biden and McCain so it confuses me how you would choose McCain over Hillary.

I think Hillary is an extremely bright woman and a major threat to the GOP which is why from here on out all of us will be subjected to one of the largest smear campaigns if not the largest in US history. It's already begun! Remember what Fox News did recently to her and Obama spreading a completely made up story about Obama that was bullshit and saying the source was Hillary?

Romney would get my vote, great candidate. Too bad he's probably the wrong religion to be elected President in this country.

I'm willing to bet the farm that Romney will be one of the first to be eliminated from the Presidential race and I think it's mostly unlikely that he will be considered for the Veep position. Did you see this Republican / Neocon attack in this week's Weekly Standard?

Mitt Romney's Conversion
His pro-life turn is more recent than you think.

by Jennifer Rubin
02/05/2007, Volume 012, Issue 20

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is under fire as he pursues the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. A recent Internet video highlighted comments made during a 1994 debate against Sen. Edward Kennedy in which Romney declared that he supported a "woman's right to choose." Romney quickly distanced himself from those comments, winning praise from conservative pundits. But a look at Romney's second campaign, the 2002 race for Massachusetts governor, reveals that his pro-choice stance and support for embryonic stem cell research were clear and ardent less than five years ago.

In the spring of 2002 Romney completed a Planned Parenthood questionnaire. Signed by Romney and dated April 9, 2002, it contained these responses:

Do you support the substance of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade? YES

Do you support state funding of abortion services through Medicaid for low-income women? YES

In 1998 the FDA approved the first packaging of emergency contraception, also known as the "morning after pill." Emergency contraception is a high dose combination of oral contraceptives that if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, can safely prevent a pregnancy from occurring. Do you support efforts to increase access to emergency contraception? YES

Romney also completed the questionnaire of the National Abortion Rights Action League, or NARAL (now called NARAL Pro-Choice America), with this statement:

I respect and will protect a woman's right to choose. This choice is a deeply personal one. Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government's

Jeb Bush was an Excellent Governor
He is out due to term limits here in florida
He has stated he has no plans to run for '08, but take that for what its worth from a politician
I do believe he is going to distance himself from his brother and wait until 2012/2016
than the bush dynasty will be complete :2razz:

Just like the Carrington Dynasty....

If you think that the current Bush is going to be remembered as a good President I'd like to sell you a great stock in a beautiful Texas based energy company. It's as successful as Bush...it's called Enron....

After Hillary wins this election, I'll be waiting around for Chelsea to run and win and complete the Clinton Dynasty.

Unless I'm mistaken, you voted in another poll that Bush is a "visionary leader" or something like that. Hardly sounds like the lesser of two evils.

I will leave it to History to judge his presidency
I doubt it will be seen as bleekly as you see it

I may hate Hillary more than Billo hates Bush
chelsea........who knows
seems unlikely since her father is a serial adulterer and her mother is a butch dyke, posing as a happily married couple for political power
I actually feel sorry for the children of politicians, especially successful ones

I've never understood why Hillary is so hated by Republicans. Sure, she lets the polls influence her decisions...but so do plenty of other politicians. Sure, she's left of center...but so are most Democrats. Sure, her personal/family life invites plenty of speculation...but that's her personal/family business.

What is it about Hillary specifically that draws such venom? I really can't figure it out, other than that she is a woman and is successful.

It's because the Republicans are so afraid of Bill! We had 8 good years with her husband at the helm and the reps and cons can't duplicate the feat. So they try to mask their angst by projecting their problems on to her.

Actually, I looked into that story a bit and it seems real. Fox News didn't initiate the story, and I haven't seen what their version looked like, but here is the link to the original story.
www.insightmag.com - Hillary's team has questions about Obama's Muslim background

It also seems that there was a large amount of response to that story, which from reading both the original and subsequent article seems misplaced.

Here is an apparent response from this Insight organization to their (as they put it) controversial story:
