She's wrong that violence from the left even exists much less is a problem and she's definitely wrong that it equals the violence from the right.

But a divorce? Yeah, we need that.

If the country splits up this means the immediate and permanent end of women and people of color being treated as second class citizens. MTG and her brand of Nazis would never make laws for us again, and that's a gigantic win for us.

And where would the left go? Would we get leftist reservations like the indigenous tribes?

How?

How?

How would the country split? Geographically? By state? Urban/Rural? What are you talking about?

MTG is spouting off nonsense again, there is no "point" being made, it would be near impossible for a "peaceful national divorce" expecting good things.

What the idea suggests is her real divorce from reality.

The right is totally welcome to move away any time they desire. America is our home. We on the left love America. America is our home. We are staying.

That said, we would prefer that the right stop all this stupid extremist nonsense, come to their senses, and realize that we have far more in common than the hateful extremist rhetoric that divides us.

The American left and the American right need one another. Our nation is stronger with all of us. America would be crippled by the loss of either. What we need to do is tone down the hateful rhetoric, dial down the emotions, and talk sense.

I still don't know what the major grievance is actually about.

This is what they've wanted all along. How dare the left seek to prosecute their cult leader for his heinous crimes (and there's more to come)! The "Republican" Party, though, needs to be thrown in the trash, they are an undeniable criminal enterprise complete with their felon leader.

We'd go to all those Blue states - starting with California and New York, the two strongest economies in the country.

You guys would get the rural trailer parks. Which, mind you, would be without electricity once the cities cut you off from their power plants.

Uh, the **** you say? Would you say this about an abusive marriage? Because that is what America is, an abusive marriage writ large. The only way our country will be united again is under an aggressive patriarchal theocratic white ethnostate.

I dunno about you but I'd rather live in irradiated ruins fighting cancer, cannibals and mutants than suffer under that crap.

I don't understand. Who would move us?
Exactly, they ain't got the firepower to move us. The left isn't powerless - it's gutless. If they come for us with civil war that gutlessness will be burned away - what comes next is mutual assured destruction. Probably on a global scale.

It's better off if we just agree to split up.

The political pundit Chris Ladd had a great idea. He calls it "soft secession" When Dems introduce a bill in Congress, it could apply only to states that want it. Blue states could implement Dem programs and red states could ignore them.

Want to rescue America? Embrace a soft secession....Stop trying to civilize the red states. Instead, embrace the progress that can be achieved at state levels. Remove the blue state welfare system that insulates rural white Republicans from the consequences of their politics. The stark geographic split in our politics is as much an opportunity as a threat. Earn progressive policy wins for blue states by offering Republicans the chance to live in the country they’re trying to create. If Democrats truly believe in the power of their policies, they should be ready to weaponize federalism.

A fault line runs beneath Republican’s regional dominance – all of their policies are wildly unpopular, even with their own voters. Whites in Nebraska and West Virginia are voting for Republicans because they promise to preserve whites’ prestige and power, even while those elected officials vote against every other priority those voters care about. Voters in deep red states represented by hard-line GOP leaders who opposed the ACA: Utah, Idaho, Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma, have passed referendums to embrace the ACA’s Medicaid expansion. Florida voted for Donald Trump, and for a proposal to increase the minimum wage to $15/hour. Voters in deep red states like North Dakota and Mississippi have rejected anti-abortion “personhood” referendums. South Dakota and Montana legalized recreational marijuana. Mississippi downgraded marijuana possession penalties. Arizona passed a sizable income tax increase to pay for education. Use federalism to exploit the disconnect between the priorities of Republican politicians and the priorities of their voters. Pass progressive policies in the House with state-level opt-out provisions. In some cases, sweeten those bills with offers Republican elected officials (and their donors) can’t refuse, but their voters will hate. Bait Republican Senators into passing them.

...Don’t miss one of the hidden benefits in this calculus. Cutting red states off from the Medicare system would save billions of dollars in subsidies that currently flow from the much-wealthier Democratic states to poorer Republican states. Not only could Democrats finally deliver affordable, quality, universal health care to their voters, they would make the whole system cheaper. Most importantly, Republican elected officials would finally face the consequences of their politics. What would happen to Republican politicians in Ohio when voters next door in Pennsylvania suddenly had access to cheap universal health care? What would happen to those voters when no worker in neighboring Pennsylvania was earning less than a living wage?

Republicans aren't ever going to be thrown in the trash. This is an era of Republican lawlessness backed up by their legions of voters who are relentlessly escalating their insanity. There is no final form for these people, no moral bottom.

This is a violently abusive marriage and it will only ever end in divorce, or the civilizational equivalent of a mutual murder.

So the 10th Amendment on nitro-steroids?

...except in the states run by Republicans.

I assure you, if the US split, lots of women and minorities would stay where they are.

That said, I think it would be pretty hilarious if the new nation of Ecotopia refused to allow straight, white, cis men who voted Republican to legally immigrate.

Her Northwest Georgia district has never stopped fighting the Civil War.

Why would they stay?

If you look at the top GDP-producing states, most of them are solidly blue. A “national divorce” would mean the entire West Coast and most of the Eastern Seaboard—except for a few outlier states—would be blue. The rest would be red, which means red states would no longer be beneficiaries of the federal money generated by blue states. They’d end up like Mogadishu: irrelevant, piss-poor, and flinging feces at each other.

And honestly? I’m fine with that.

Indeed, and the kicker here is there's really no need for anyone to move because the division is urban and rural, so everyone just stays where they are and we put up fences?

There's no way of doing that since the divide isn't between some states with a homogenous population. but states with urban centers that are not in line with that idea.
