May Day, May Day
American Thinker: May Day, May Day

By Robin of Berkeley
May 01, 2010

I've never been big on holidays. Growing up Jewish, my family didn't celebrate Christmas or Easter. And being secular, we didn't do much for the Jewish holidays either. Since arriving in Berkeley decades ago, one of the few holidays I've enjoyed is May Day, also known as International Workers' Day.

As you can imagine, IWD is a popular day around these parts. In fact, it's an official city holiday. Along with Malcolm X's Birthday, Indigenous People's Day, and International Women's Day, the school kiddies and the city rank and file get the day off. Even some popular places, like Berkeley's Cheese Board Collective, close in observance.
It is very telling that the writer didn't know that millions died under communist rule. Supporting acts that involves breaking the law show the true nature of the majority of liberals in this country.

you're right, this one person represents the majority of liberals in america, how could it be otherwise

The Communist countries didn't start May Day. They took it from a U.S. tradition that commemorated the Haymarket Massacre, because the labor movements that fought for the eight-hour work day professed to be socialists.

My praise goes to those who have thought deeply, seriously and honestly, and came to their senses and have the courage to confront their demons. It has been puzzling to me that educated people had no clue about the extent and nature of sufferings imposed by left-wing totalitarianism in every single country it has reared its ugly head. "With between 85 million and 100 million victims ... the Communist record offers the most colossal case of political carnage in history.- ‘The Black Book of Communism’, ed. Mark Kramer, UP Harvard, 1999.”

The differences between "fascism" and "communism" that exist on paper turn out to be irrelevant in the real world; it's all dictatorial statism in the end.

The Left has been very successful in keeping people ignorant. This is why propaganda is so important to them. They aspire to keep the people misinformed because it would be easier to keep them under control, succumbing to feeling and instinct rather than to reason. That is the reason for the senseless repetition of phraseology and terminology by the mainstream media, to brain washes their audience, avoiding them the trouble of thinking.

A great number of human beings are getting the benefits of economical and social freedom around the world, and millions of workers have being liberated from the socialist regimes oppression. US citizen have the opportunity to stop the agenda of the progressives, socialists by other name, in the coming elections, whom show their ruthlessness and disregard for the rule of law, and choose freedom of choice over paternalism.

Let's not get so one track minded. Pinochet, the Mujahedin, most if not all of U.S. instated anti-democratic regimes etc are right wing authoritarian governments with just as many human rights violations as left-wing regimes. Both are important to look out for and decry

Are you freaking kidding me? This is one of the worst semantic arguments I've ever seen. You honestly believe that the left is the sole advocate of propaganda in the main-stream media? I cannot even begin to address the problems with this argument without needless vulgarities.

Propaganda-n. The spreading of information for the purpose of promoting cause.

I suppose you don't notice all of the corporate propaganda that assaults you daily? Propaganda is solely an instrument of the left? Religion or the military, or say, big business would never use propaganda to derail public progress would they? Or am I being too cynical...

Except that in the world of processed and well thought out academic research, the differences are stark, and the ways to identify the differences are numerable. Stop slurping up your Ayn Rand doctrine and enlighten yourself to the differential civics that result from both oppressive regimes.

Right-wing totalitarianism doesn't have that pretty of a track record either. I don't this that the left-wing part is to blame, but more likely the blame falls on the totalitarianistic parts of those governments. Socialism doesn't always come with bloodshed. Look at some of the socialist European countries like Norway.

From 1948 to 1976 Mao communist system killed close to 70 million people. Stalin communist administration was responsible for the death of 40 million. If we add another 10 million more from Cambodia, Laos, North Vietnam and North Korea, the total number of killing as a result of the communist ideology, we come up with a number of 120 million. Has been worth the killing of so many human beings in the name of the communist ideology utopia? This is the result of this lethal secular religion with the control of all sources of power. This is the most important reason to promote democracy.

According to government sources Medicare alone is losing 70 billion dollars to fraud every year. No congressional hearing has taking effect to address this fraud, nor new regulation has been signed to get it under control. There is a lack of will by the government to solve this problem.

The fraud is usually perpetuated by greedy capitalists.
