What are they doing in their homes? Is everyone staying at least six feet away from each other?
They aren't in their homes. That's the point. Staying six feet away from each other doesn't do diddly squat indoors. Covid people wearing masks go out, breath the virus into the indoor air, and it circulates throughout the entire building. So indoors, staying six feet away from each other is almost pointless.

I don't think it's the masks at all. We had this thing pretty well under control back when there was no toilet paper on the shelves so it seems rather obvious to me that the easy availability of TP is what's got this thing raging again. If we ban TP and mandate masks THEN we might get this thing gone.
I know you said that in jest but there may be more to that than you realize.

With a flu virus as contagious as covid they provide no protection other than airflow obstruction. That's it. Health care workers don't wear mask for viruses they wear them for larger heavier particles like bacteria and to reduce saliva droplet spread.
No this is false. They do provide protection. It is not perfect protection, but it is better than going without a mask. The vast majority of virus transmission is not by exhaled airborne particles, it is by touching surfaces that have been sneezed or coughed on and then transferring the virus into your body by touching your face. Masks reduce the amount of fluid expelled during coughs and sneezes, and also reduce the chances that you will touch your mouth after touching an infected surface.

The consensus of health care experts and biologists are not simply mistaken on this. This is settled science. Masks help. They are just not perfect: Yes it is still possible to inhale an airborne virus that someone else exhales while wearing a mask. That doesn't make the mask worthless. You are less likely to become infected if you are wearing a mask than if you aren't.

You are right that masks give people a false sense of security and cause them to go out when perhaps they shouldn't.

The only thing that would create a bigger false sense of security and cause a more rapid spread of COVID-19 than everyone wearing masks would be everyone not wearing masks.
We may possibly be getting somewhere with this. Yes, I don't deny that if everyone didn't wear masks that the situation would be far worse. BUT, we're talking about things being far worse now, 8 months into a mask mandate where most people actually wear masks. It is masked people spreading the virus and they spread the virus because masks don't really work that well, they only work better than not having masks at all. But, the point is, the left encouraging people to wear masks actually encourages people to go out. While the left say, "It's better to stay home but if you must go out, wear a mask" is picked up and heard by people as, "go out and do whatever the hell you want, but wear a mask". This is evidenced by travel at Thanksgiving and Christmas. People were told the very same thing, "You should stay home but if you must travel, wear a mask, social distance, etc." But, people, including millions of lefties, heard this as, "It's OK to travel, just wear a mask and follow guidelines". And what happened? People traveled by the boatloads, wore masks, followed the guidelines, and we had surges. The virus is spreading because too many people are out and too many people are out because they falsely believe that masks are some sort of force field that stops the virus. Encouraging people to wear masks encourages them to go out when they shouldn't be going out. We should be encouraging them to stay home and don't go out and leave the part off about, "Well if you must go out, wear a mask" because this just encourages them to go out instead of hearing what you said at first, "Don't go out".

lol. And on the 6th you posted this:

So now you've upgraded from "masks don't work" to "masks spread COVID"? What happens when this thread goes down in flames like the last? Going to wait a bit and start a third claiming that masks kill your whole family?
Hey, was thinking the exact same thing but didnt feel like the effort.

It's like The Donald, it's not just about losing, it's about how many times you want to lose.

Cheers!

I see a lot of people in my neck of the woods wearing ill fitting surgical masks.

Sure, you've got three layers, but that gaping opening around your nose and cheek bones kind of defeats the purpose.

We have had masked mandates for 8 months now and things continually get worse. You're only argument is that if no one wore masks, over one million would be dead instead of 400,000. That's not a very good argument, particularly when we continue to increase instead of decrease. It is people out and about spreading the virus and most people out and about are wearing masks. We need to stop people from going out. We need to tell them don't go out because masks only protect you better than wearing no mask at all. But, you need to stay home. Don't go out because it is people going out who are spreading the virus and most people going out are wearing masks.

That's the point. It is actually masked people spreading the virus and the left don't seem to give a shit because, hey, the people you just described and in the OP are wearing masks so they can't possibly be spreading the virus.

It is spreading exponentially! It has been for 8 months, even during mask mandates. People shouldn't be out at all! People go out because when the left encourage them to wear masks, it is encouraging them to go out. Masks don't work 100% and the masks in this OP work far less than that. This is what is spreading the virus. If masks worked so well, then why do we need to social distance? Answer: Because masks DON'T work so well and masks like in this OP work even less. The thing is, masks don't work that well and the ones in the OP work even less so that breathing stays in the indoor environment and it doesn't matter how far you are away from someone. If there are 100 people in Walmart, all wearing masks, 5 of them could be breathing out Covid into the air which circulates throughout the entire Walmart, so staying 6 feet away from someone doesn't address the air circulating throughout the entire store. Hence, in this example, it is masked people spreading the virus in Walmart.
I agree those masks are crap.

You may breath in some virus in an indoor setting. You’ll get less of a viral load if you keep your distance. You’ll get a bigger viral load if you aren’t wearing a mask. I play it safe and do curb side pick up.

This mass spread was predicted to happen this winter. If we could have kept the numbers down in the summer there wouldn’t be as much spread now. Much of the spread is coming from people having get togethers with those outside their family. I doubt there is strict mask wearing in these settings. Trump rallies, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and insurrections have not helped.

There’s plenty of pandemic fatigue. There is more social mobility. People are still going on vacation and having weddings.

Masks are just one third of a safety triad. Masks+ social distancing + washing your hands together is what works. By themselves not so much.

They’ve found neck gaiters and bandanas actual increase spread of Covid-19

I can't disagree. But we did tell people not to go out in the beginning of the pandemic, and only Democratic states cooperated. Republicans governors actually campaigned on refusing to institute lockdown procedures in their states.

The way virus transmission works, if only a portion of the population obeys stay at home orders, then stay at home orders do exactly nothing. You won't get a slowed transmission rate unless everyone obeys. So long as there are even a few people ignoring a lockdown, the virus spreads virtually unabated.

So what good would reminding people to stay home really do? Unless it is enforced, the transmission rate would be virtually unaffected so long as enough people view it as a violation of their rights and the spread and death rate would be no different than it is now. Masks are literally all we have left. They are inflatable water-wings while you are stranded in the middle of the ocean. Obviously a raft would have been preferred, but what are you going to do? And why cry about after the fact?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that with the virus surging and almost everyone wearing masks, our high numbers and surges are actually due to masked people spreading the virus. But the left refuse to blame the following mask wearers for spreading the virus:

It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out going maskless is worse. We know right wingers don't care about anything but themselves or trying to allege they have sexual morality. We know they don't. What's wrong, right wingers, not moral enough to let Others tell Y'all what to do as you Happily tell Others?

Vote Union blue not false witness hypocritical Russian tool rebel red!

The ones who are making sure this crisis doesn’t go to waste and use it to drastically cripple the economy and destroy the lives of millions of hard working Americans. They.
Oh, so no one - "they" exist only in your imagination. That's what I thought.

Good answer!!

First science is never fully settled, it is what we know and relatively proven at that point in time, the science changes as evidence, observation and experimentation dictates.

Second the virus is airborne.

Thirdly current pandemic procedures, are not following in any real degree the procedures developed by the CDC for highly contagious viruses. Otherwise isolation would be the thing that is enforced and they would not allow tens of people into a building. UVC light and sanitation in the extreme would be what we would be enforcing.

The current mask mandate for airborne viruses is at best minimally effective. Most masks worn are not of the filtering type such as the N95, or worn properly as in sealed to the face and leaves the major ingress points of eyes and ears still exposed. The virus can enter through any pore, cut or other opening in body. Masks worn by most people are so ineffective as to be near pointless.

What I am telling you is in the literature from before the pandemic hit and most of it is of similar conclusion and mind. I trust very little literature from after.

Airborne virus transmission is related to exposure length and viral load of of the environment in which it located. Viral loads are exponentially less outdoors than they are indoors. Allowing hundreds of people to shop at a time in a box store if one is trying to prevent or at least slow the spread of a airborne virus is counteracting to the intended effect. The current disinfection procedures of just using Lysol and like disinfectants in haphazard fashion as is the current norm does little if any to curb the spread of the virus. I have yet to see any institution use UVC light disinfection tools yet.

Mask mandates in order to be effective must mandate the type of mask used, how it is worn, and the minimal disinfectant procedures and timing that must be done. This must also be done in conjunction with sanitization procedures the emphasize frequent and thorough passes on all surfaces and objects uses a variety of methods including disinfectant and uvc light. It must also limit personal interaction. Most mandates do little if any of this.

This has proven to be impossible in America. Therefore, we are doing the best we can. Blue states are mandating masks and social distancing, red states are to a lesser extent, and we are doing a very poor job of mitigating the spread of the virus. But a very poor job is better than doing nothing.

California - over 90% compliance rate and we're closing in rapidly on 3 million infections. You guys should rethink the mask thing.

more people close together means more cases. more people close together acting like maskless morons would mean even more cases. mask up, or stay home.
