Mask Mandates Don't Work

What? Can you not read English? California had a mask mandate over two months ago and now has more cases and deaths than they had back then, currently having over 4,000 new cases per day and between 100 - 200 deaths per day. And you want to talk about a total of FOUR people who tested positive from the RNC?

It's the message the gop at the RNC was sending america and you wonder why people are dying all over the place? No state is completely R or D.

Your minimizing the fact that it is an incumburance on people. whether its small or big is a subjective determination. What you ate suggesting is that we should assume everyone is asymptomatic and be forced to wear a mask to ensure that the less than 1% of the population who are symptomatic are masked. Your policy is suggesting over 300 million healthy people assume they are infected when they are not. Where does the authority come from that allows the gov to lawfully restrict healthy people, who can not possibly spread the infection, to live under restrictions.

People can be infected and being symptomatic and not tested, they’ll not know it and spread the disease to others for not wearing a mask. After being tested negative, thinking they thereby don’t where a mask, they can still contract the disease and spread to others. That’s how virus works. Once a single person has a novel virus, everybody in the world is subject to the virus. Countries in Africa and elsewhere not yet having a problem with the virus will sooner or later have to contend with the virus.

The gov of every state, I don’t know if there is any exception, has the authority under the duty to protect the health and safety of the public to require such as mask wearing, including of healthy people who test negative. A healthy person can still contract the disease and then they won’t be “healthy”. Though never exercised in such a way, the CDC has quarantine rights to protect the health of the public by declaring the virus a threat to the safety the nation, a national security threat, and impose quarantine by home sheltering, with certain exceptions, and mask wearing/distancing rules. That may be lawful, but I don't know that the public would accept such.

Of course, masking up is better at preventing transmission than no masking up. The question is: is wearing a mask and not socially distancing and not washing one's hands, for example, as good at prevention of transmission than wearing a mask and socially distancing and washing one's hands?

Irrelevant...we should be doing all three. Worth noting DonDon does not support two of the three. He is a known germaphobe so I guess he is for washing hands.

Mask Mandates Don't Work

And Donald J. Trump has done everything in his power to make sure of it.

How do we know the mask prevents transmission if the only study of transmissions from a 'protesting situation' of no social distancing and no washing of hands, for example, was the Minneapolis protesting of Floyd?

On a side note, worrying about the elderly teachers and school workers that may get Covid and not considering the very small chance the student will be greatly affected by Covid is not worrying about levelling the curve. It is worrying about Covid hospitalizations and deaths. In this case, some scientists (and politicians) have gone from worrying about levelling the curve of cases to slow the exponential growth of cases which may overload hospital resources to worrying about Covid hospitalizations and death.

My suggestion is to send the kids to school and to quarantine the elderly teachers and school workers.

The threat of transmission in a crowd of protesters is when one not wearing a mask who is infected is shouting, which projects droplets that can reach another person and infect them upon breathing it in. It has been proven that N95 mask prevent droplets from penetrating the mask at 95% efficiency, but that starts to degrade as the mask is used. Most mask used, maybe 90% or more, by most people are well below that level of efficiency.

There have been numerous studies months ago in China that open-air crowds did not result in transmission. But they weren’t yelling and screaming. Maybe Hong Kong has done a study. I’m not so sure we can trust anything from China. The US IS determines that reliability level.

It is possible for an org to have such discipline as to protest with proper distancing and mask wearing. But protest is an attraction to possibly many more people than can be held to that discipline of whom mingle among those who were originally distanced.

If N95 masks, for example, are so affective in preventing transmission, why aren't all bar patrons, for example, required to wear N95 Masks instead of just shutting bars down?

You can't drink/eat and wear a mask at the same time. Some bars have tried to get approval for drinking outside where the risk is much lower than inside where the air is recirculating and social distancing more difficult.

Straws.

Have you seen the football games where the referee that announces the penalty pulls off their mask to announce the penalty? Should not pulling off the mask to announce the penalty also not be allowed?

Thought of that. Go ahead and try. If you wear a bandana, it would work. Then, you might even be able to eat wearing a bandana. Haven't tried that.

Treating masks as the single controlling variable... no wonder right wingers are so lost all the time, they're horrible at math.

Being outside, especially distanced from others, is about as low-risk as you can get when unmasked, especially for but a few seconds.

How exactly am I supposed to eat my pretzels with a mask on?

California instituted a mask mandate on June 18, two months ago. On that date they had 4084 new cases for June 18th. Two months after the mask mandate yesterday, August 18th, California had 4636 new cases for the day. On June 18th, the first day of the mask mandate, California had 82 new deaths and two months after the mask mandate, on August 18th, they had 100 new deaths for the day. And, whether you are in a red state or a blue state, people aren't going to wear their masks whether there is a mask mandate or not and most of these people are the younger invincible liberals aged 20-29 who aren't about to stop going to beaches and bars.

This doesn’t demonstrate masks mandates are not efficacious. Failure of people to comply eroded the efficacy. There is considerable data that compliance does facilitate reducing the number of positives, number of hospitalizations, and deaths.

The numbers you cited could reflect a lack of compliance as the culprit.

For instance, let’s suppose in a particular state with seat belt laws, there are X number of deaths from automobile accidents. Such a number doesn’t show seat belts laws are failures. It is quite possible the X number of deaths is the result of not using a seat belt.

Why do some people find it too hard to wear a mask? COVID-19 is here to stay.

Masks do work....... the big question is why should America be in need of masks?

Millions have lost their jobs, More than 200,000 should not have died and thousands of employers are going out of business all due to the negligence of the right wing radical anti american GOP.

Now the USA is the epicenter of COVID 19 due to a monster misinformation campaign sanctioned by the GOP.

How long was COVID 19 traveling about the USA before the misinformation source in chief decided to share the news with the USA?

The employed did not ask the government to treat the coronavirus threat as if there was no reason for concern. As a result COVID 19 came upon us and is not going away. Meanwhile the GOP government is still advising no need to worry all will be swell. Yet more than 200,000 have died. And a few hundred thousand others are still trying to stay alive. And the people in the USA need additional stimulus money = yes the GOP have screwed up the economy once again.

ONLY 5,000 have died in China.

Why did the Capitol Hill GOP funnel billions upon billons of tax dollars from the COVID relief fund to white collar industries as we speak? This is reckless use of our tax dollars. White collar wealthy do NOT need bailed out.
One more example of how the GOP cannot be trusted with our money. Does anyone suppose that the GOP is allowing Trump people to embezzle money to keep the Trump hotels open?

Do I need to draw the picture? Hold the straw to one's mouth and put the mask on over the straw.

Mashmont didn't realize that social distancing doesn't save anyone from Covid infection or death but saves hospital resources from being used up from the pandemic.

cabse5 is under the idiotic delusion that social distancing will literally kill people.

For the same reason you won't like Trump nominating Barrett to the Supreme Court, I suppose.

Masks were not the only prescription. We were supposed to have wildely availble testing (“anyone who wants a test can get a test), a trace regime in place, etc.

Because social distancing doesn't protect those most susceptible to Covid (and there is a distinct group of people most susceptible to Covid), because social distancing is unsustainable and because social distancing isn't designed to save people's lives but save hospital resources which was the greatest and falsely derived concerns of epidemiologists from the start of this pandemic that a choice would have to be made of either saving lives or saving hospital resources and epidemiologists chose the saving of hospital resources. Social distancing is the choice of saving hospital resources.
