Obama won't grant a pardon, but damn this letter hits home. I would absolutely love to see it happen though, and I believe it would go a long ways toward shifting the public opinion on matters such as this.

This man is an American hero, deserves to walk free, and it astounds me that people want to turn a blind eye to the crimes of their government and pretend as though nothing is wrong, and then to go as far to condemn someone such as Bradley(Chelsea) Manning for wanting to open their eyes.

If you had even read the letter, you would've noticed he said:



So by your own definition, that a hero welcomes the consequences of his actions, he must be a hero.

Learning to read what you're responding to instead of firing off insults about socialists (which has no context on this debate) is a key life skill.

And by the way, Army chain of commands don't give a flying rat's ass if you disagree with them or not.



I've reported things to the IG before, and I've gotten very cold responses. If things are in the unit doctrine, even if they grossly violate Army doctrine, they pretty much don't care. The decisions to keep these things secret were made consciously by higher officers, and even IG respects that as the word of god.

So what happened between the time in court that he said he did this because he was confused about his sexual identity and now when he says he did it to expose the Government.

Manning didn't know what was in thise documents nor did he care.

I completely agree. Chelsea manning truly stood up and did the right thing and showed us how disgusting our government was being in how they were running our foreign affairs. I think that americans should be forced to see the images and the effects of the wars they support. They should hear the cries of the people killed on their behalf. I had a problem a long time ago with being angry at the injustice and BS of the world, and I am also like manning in that I suffered from the prejudice and shame that comes from being transgendered. When I got angry I made a very bad criminal choice to say screw everyone and tried to do identity theft. That was a terrible and criminal way to go, and I was caught very red handed being the suck I was. Chelsea manning chose to break the law to fight against the injustice and crap the country was doing. She even did that knowing that when people learned about her true nature they would hate her even worse. That is selfless, heroic, and courageous on levels I cannot imagine. She did it for us. She did it so we could see what we allow. She did it having faith that we were good enough to rise up and stop it.

She is a hero and should be given a medal for having the honor to stand up and show when we have been out of line even though it might make us feel bad.

Fair enough, but the gunners still attacked a van without permission which contained people who where trying to help the wounded, which is a problem. Ethan McCord, one of the soldiers on the scene who picked up one of the children and tried to take him to a military vehicle, was reprimanded for his response.

Most that are on there are not embarrassing in the slightest, yet he has been sentenced to 35 years, unlike Daniel Ellsberg. Who helped end not only the Nixon presidency, but also the Vietnam War. Ellsberg's act was essential to holding accountable the leaders who had betrayed American values by starting and perpetuating an illegal and deadly war. Manning has done the same in my opinion and has been locked away.

That´s a stangely ironic request since most of use of who support the points made by Manning (but not necessarilly all of his actions) also oppose all the spying on people without suspicion done by the NSA and other agencies, and respect a right to privacy. We can not have have a genuine democracy when major governmental deicisions are made in secret. Only a minimal amount of information, the equivalent of troop movements etc., should be kept secret.

I don't know manning so I can't say for sure. I don't know whether or not he picked areas out of it or just got a huge batch of data.

There actually is no argument; Bradley Manning's legal name was, is and will remain Bradley Manning. People can call themselves whatever they want; however that has no legal bearing unless its gone through a formal legal change.

Thankfully, we have in no ways a "genuine democracy." Shudder the thought and the angels forefend!


And major government decisions are usually mad e in secret, and always have been. And again I ask, "who are you to determine what shall be secret and what not?"

I'd advise people wishing to change not only our mode of government, but to perforce invent a whole now concept of government in which almost nothing is kept secret from the people at large to avail themselves of the plentiful means at their disposal to attempt to do so legitimately.

In the meant time, please inform us of any decisions in your private life or business endeavors that you might otherwise be tempted to keep secret for myriad reasons, that you may provide us with a proper example.

Look, I don't despise Bradley Manning because he is gay; I don't give a shyt about that and if you read my posts you'll know that. Don't assume that I despise him because of his sexual orientation...I despise him for being a turd and leaking all that classified info; something for which he has been tried and found guilty off.

The fact that he wants to change his name and gender is just a publicity stunt in my opinion; I don't care if he actually does go through with such a change, so long as taxpayer dollars don't foot the bill, but until them he will remain Bradley.
