Let the ruling classes tremble at a communist revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Workingmen of all countries, unite!

Marx deserves a lot of credit for putting certain things into the culture, like caring for the poor as a societal policy, identifying how capitalism can cause a sense of societal alienation for certain people, he helped start the science of sociology, and he made important contributions to philosphy and western thinking.

However, he is also like Sigmund Freud was to psychology. He got a bunch of good ideas seeded that then needed to evolve to become something more practical and useful in modern society. At least this is how I see him.

Have you ever asked yourself why the U.S.S.R isn't called that anymore?

It was a nice idea but then a..h.les like Stalin came along.

If we consider that since the beginning, the USSR was surrounded, not just a..h.les, but bloody ghouls, seeking to destroy it, then comrade Stalin, who managed to fight back against these ghouls and create a superpower in the most difficult conditions and the shortest historical time, is the savior of mankind and the leader of a new, truly progressive society. Everything else is fascist propaganda.

The basic idea "from each according to their ability, to each according to their need" sounds OK until you try to implement that idea. Who decides what your individual ability is to toil at some party assigned task? Who decides what you need beyond a bunk in the labor camp and a piece of bread with your daily gruel? The challenge is to point out any "successful" communist nation and then to examine what happened to basic human rights inside that "workers' utopia".

The U.S.S.R was never a progressive society. It did work at least economically, I admit, for the political leaders and business managers. And it was never a Marxist ideal for a society to become a "superpower". Marx might have vomited at the thought.

By the way, Lenin knew Stalin for the criminal he was and wanted him kicked out of the party. If Lenin hadn't gotten sick and died it's doubtful anyone would still
know Stalin's name.

People like to own stuff.

These conversations always end up messy.

Purely planned based economic systems are just as prone to consequences and eventual failure as purely market based economic systems. Mostly for the same reason, on a long enough timeline they both tend to lead to centralize power and influence, aristocracy some form, and marginalization of everyone else.

We can talk all day about economic, social, and governmental theory but in practice we end up with people that have their own motivations, ideologies, faults, what have you that tend to lean towards collection of wealth and resources.

Outside of a classroom the notion of power and holding onto that exist across the spectrum of all known government models with an economic systems.

That is the primary reason we lean towards a mixed model and ideally with a system of government that identifies the individual rights. Still plenty of failures and there is still room for governmental practices that marginalize someone, but there is no solid alternative that would work as best we have evolved so far.

In practice Communism is just as much of a disaster for humanity.

Once "workers of the world unite" (i.e. the "Russian Social Democratic Labour Party" as organized) went to the *very next step* we saw anti-elitist calls end up being ploy to remove one form of aristocracy and replace it with unannounced other. What was sold was not what ended up happening. The result was polarizing intentional divisions, appeal to government authority to outright take from those marginalized, forced settlements and redistribution, bouts of famine and resource mismanagement, appeals to a portion of the nation to spy on the rest, eventually revolution with bloodshed for the record books including everything from "reeducation camps" to judicial executions.

What should be noted from a standpoint of learning from history is we are facing people in this nation, today, that are wanting something that started just like this did.

Will we learn? (I am skeptical.)

If it weren't for those darned humans, these theories would all be awesome!

The USSR became a superpower because the could enlist millions of conscripts, the Jet Engines developed by the British, the rockets from the Germans and because of nuke technology they stole from the US.

You see, how dangerous the consequences of a lifetime of lying propaganda are ... you're not saying very smart things and you don't see it... But if it helps you sleep at night, O.K., the USSR stole everything, thousands and thousands of industrial plants and Sputik and all that... You can sit down now, the chair is right behind you.

Stalin was a lot of things, but “savior of mankind” ain’t one of them. He very nearly wrecked his own “truly progressive society” by murdering so many officers that the Red Army got its ass kicked for years by the Wehrmacht.

I 'm actually surprised to hear about the " theft " of ideas and inventions from a representative of a country where a large number of inventions were made by emigrants in the first generation... As for the Nazi 's role in the creation of the US space program, I'd rather modestly omit it...

Stalin really is the Savior of humanity, whether you like it or not, and "nearly" doesn't count. Stalin is the winner. As for ass kicking, everyone got it from the Germans at the beginning, some didn't even survive it (and some got their asses kicked by the germans even at the end of the war ). Even the Japanese kicked everyone's ass first. This is the advantage of the aggressor for you, to choose when and where to strike, to have an advantage due to this. As for the slain officers of the Red army, listen less to the lies coming from the stinking Solzhenitsyn. Stalin purged the army before the war, but Hitler did not and received a bomb from his officers when things went bad.

Theft is the perfect word. And yes, immigrants made up many of our great minds. They escaped the Nazis and came to America. Not Russia. Note that. When seeking a country to go to they chose America.

The sacrifice of millions of young Russian, Ukrainian, Belorussian men and women to defeat the Third Reich is appreciated.

Stalin? He can burn in hell.

Stalin happily worked with the Nazis for years until they turned on him. His regime of utter paranoia and psychotic brutality came crumbling down within minutes after he kicked the bucket. His own subordinates flat out stated that his system was totally unworkable, which is why they got rid of Stalinism to begin with. They were sick of murdering innocent people to appease the paranoia of a brutal thug.

And millions upon millions of Stalin’s people died because he was a paranoid idiot.

Comrade Stalin killed 25 million people, mostly his own countrymen. Stalin killed more Soviets than Hitler did.

Mao killed 50 million.

It's difficult getting communism to work.

Absolutely. Stalin created the world's most progressive society. Modern leftists need to embrace Stalin, as they share virtually all of his values.

If anyone was happy to work with Hitler, it was the famous appeasers in England and France. Without them, Hitler would never have been able to start a war. Your historical ignorance allows you not to know about the Munich betrayal of Czechoslovakia and the "Phoney war", but the bourgeois propagandists of the Cold war are shouting about the non-aggression Pact with Germany, which the USSR was forced to conclude, since all its attempts to attract future allies to action against Hitler failed. Too much these scoundrels dreamed of sending Hitler against the USSR. And in response, they got hit in the teeth by Hitler. You probably don't know that almost all European States had a non-aggression Treaty with Hitler. The USSR was the last in this chain.
And you "millions upon millions" only one thing proves that you are so brainwashed, that you are ready to believe anything, for example, that the marriage of a man and a man is normal... Once you believe in a biologically abnormal thing, they can put any lie in your head and you will swallow it without thinking.

Stalin was working with Hitler even before Munich. The USSR helped the Germans test and develop tanks and aircraft during the interwar period as well as working with Hitler to carve up Poland and seize the Baltic States and other chunks of territory.

The USSR was still sending trains full of aid to the Nazis pretty much up to the minute that Barbarossa kicked off.

Are you denying that the USSR lost millions upon millions of men on the Eastern Front?

Even your fellow communists utterly rejected the idiocy of Stalinism the minute your hero kicked the bucket.

Until 1933, Germany was a completely democratic country (even Hitler came to power democratically).Pre-Hitler Germany and the USSR were both "pariahs" for other capitalist countries. Therefore, the Soviet Union, experiencing hostile pressure, allowed the germans (democratic germans, let me remind you) to open two schools in Russia, where the Germans trained tankmen and pilots. The Soviet military used these schools to train its specialists, as Germany was more advanced in both aircraft and tank construction. After Hitler came to power, these contacts were immediately terminated.
The USSR was the only country in the 30s that actually fought the Nazis, for example in Spain. All time in 30s USSR tried to create a system of collective security against Hitler. Through the fault of appeasers in England and France, it failed. It turned out that these politicians wanted Hitler to go east. So, Hitler proposed a non-aggression Pact, and the USSR accepted it thus receiving a reprieve from the war of almost two years. Very important years. after all, the USSR began to create a mass army only in 1939. By the way, this led to the fact that in 1941 the officers were not sufficiently trained. there were not enough experienced officers for the entire multi-million-strong army .
Alas, the USSR could not afford to create a powerful industry and maintain a million-strong army in the 30s. The USSR still hoped to rein in Hitler. Future allies prevented this. Yes, the USSR supplied food to Hitler, but this was not a one-sided process. In response, the USSR received modern machine tools from Germany, which, by the way, then created weapons for the war with Germany all through the war, samples of new german military equipment (Hitler allowed this to be done, being sure that the untermensch would not have time to use them) and other goods necessary for Soviet industry.
On the web, you can find a list of valuable goods the USSR received from Germany for a year and a half. In any case, the work of historians in the russian language.
Yes, there were heavy losses. The whole Europe, united by Hitler, the whole f***ng EU #1. with all its power and human resources, motivated to plunder by its theory of superiority, descended on the USSR. Fortunately for all mankind, the USSR was a country of socialism, capable of defending itself and crushing nazism.
You are welcome.
