Pay attention New Orleans and Lousiana. New Hampshire knows how to put aside partisan bickering and have a plan in place to protect its citizens in the event of a natural disaster.

My family is caught up in this and my hometown is threatened by a imminent dam breach according to sources back home. I have to ask this however, do other states have in place the evacuation plans that New Hampshire has had in place for years and is now putting into effect? If Louisiana did, they sure as heck didn't implement it very effectively.

Once again i'm reminded that I should be living in New Hampshire...

Just not right now.... apparently, it is getting much worse and rain is expected for an entire week. The authorities are doing the best they can from all reports I have read and bulletins of alternate routes are regularly broadcast - again, the result of good planning by LOCAL governments in cooperation with the State government. Apparently, however, one of the two dams in my hometown has broken.

Guess that means you can expect a Bush Visit in.....about a Month (kidding).

Please take care of yourselves, and get the F@ck out when it looks bad.....OK?

Well, thanks, though I don't currently live in NH. My mom lives on high ground, so her areas is fine.

As for Bush, here is the differences. New England states are handling this on their own with their own plans and with their own National Guard troops. Federal assistance will be requested for the clean up, but State and Local resourses are the immediate responders, as it should be. New England States have a history of toughing it out - though usually through blizzards and not floods.

As for President Bush, he was in Maine over the weekend. Frankly, most New Englanders are not clamoring for presidential assistance, local and state governments are handling the crisis just fine - and DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS are WORKING TOGETHER! A great New England tradition! Unlike in Louisiana, NO ONE IS MAKING POLICIAL BARBS OR TRYING TO SCORE POLITICAL POINTS!

Nonetheless, the existing emergency plan provided the necessary steps for such a disaster and even included a section about the potential failure of a local dam, Sanborn said. He added city officials will review and update the plan, if needed, shortly after water levels return to normal

Rochester Mayor John Larochelle noted the strong cooperation and support among city officials, departments and such outside organizations as the American Red Cross.

Even though Milton was across the state lines from York County, where officials had prepared a coordinated emergency plan, area communities fell back upon the time-honored New England practice of neighbors helping neighbors, regardless of borders, in times of need through mutual aid.

Hey, New Orleans and Louisiana. THIS is how it is done!
