Man Charged After Allegedly Selling Fentanyl-Laced Cocaine to 4 Friends at a Calif. Rental Home

The two couples had been having dinner together before using what they thought was cocaine –– only one person survived

Cause of death: stupidity.
Now, as to this drug dealer. They’re going to make an example of him for marketing cocaine that was not in compliance with an arbitrary standard of purity. It was enhanced with fentanyl, an extremely potent narcotic. Is this somehow worse than if he’d supplied pure cocaine, which also kills lots of folks who abuse it? What is the real reason for this prosecution? It could be about money. If the dealer had simply registered with the FDA and obtained appropriate licensure, maybe he could’ve marketed his narcotics legally... so long as the government gets their cut. Nicotine is pure poison, but the government gets a ton of tax money from its sale (cigarettes, cigars, ect).

here are the people who died...

Yes, if I ask for moderately toxic product X and get highly toxic product Y instead that is “somehow worse”.

What is the real reason for this prosecution?

Multiple fatalities.

Yep, the government is likely to charge user fees to cover the cost of regulation and enforcement.
