He actually wants to roll back a tiny piece of the vile, wealth-destroying, authoritarian, progressive regulatory state.

The video below is about permit scalping, which is one of many, many, many forms of regulatory rent-seeking. In the reform bill he mentions, Mamdani wants to decriminalize unlicensed street vending, which is awesome. The bill probably won't pass, but he's got the right idea at least. Here's the bill he supports. Adams vetoed it, but it's not dead yet.

If he follows through with this, they're all effectively licensed.

I wasn't talking in hypotheticals. I'm was speaking about reality.
There is no possible way we are going to go back to the days of unlicensed, uninsured vendors.
Don't be taken in by his commie bullshit.

Whether allowing unlicensed vendors is a good idea or not, it has nothing even remotely to do with communism.

And you lot refer to Lefties as hysterical?

About 3 blocks up the street from our house, a retired couple has a little hobby farm spread out on a hillside. For years, every they had tomato plants, pepper plants, and potted herbs for sale every spring for 50 cents each. From midsummer on, they would have fresh produce out every other day or so for 50 cents to a dollar a pound. They would also put together bouquets of zinnias for 50 cents each. In the winter, they would have bundles of firewood for a 2 dollars. It was all on the honor system. Everyone in the neighborhood would walk up there in the evenings and pick up fresh tomatoes, herbs, garden plants and so on. The local city shut them down this summer because they were an unlicensed vendor.

I'm an adult, why can't I buy food from whoever I want? Why should I be limited to only those approved by the government?

The regulatory state is the worst thing progressives have ever imposed on the American people. It's totalitarian, it covers nearly every aspect of our lives.

Especially when RFK Jr is the one approving them.

That's a good point. Why should we be restricted by some idiot know-nothing like RFK.

But it really doesn't matter who it is. It's ridiculous that I even have to argue that adults should be allowed to eat what they want.

I'm not because it has a lot more to do with health inspections.
It hurts vendors who are legally licensed and insured.
We are letting good food go to waste because we have our knickers in a knot. If they pass health inspections, what of it?

That is so sad.

Remember where those license fees go......

The problem is they are in a residential area so there is no way for them to be licensed. It was just a hobby for them and was not hurting anyone.

What they need to do is give away their plants. And then collect seed donations separately.
