Majorities in new poll support early voting, voter ID

New poll has huge numbers agreeing that early voting should be easier and ID should be shown when voting.
I would agree with both proposals, but also say that voting centers should be staffed 24/7 for at least a couple of weeks before an election to allow people with tough schedules their chance to vote as well.

I like these two also. But, I would like to see less (to almost no) voting by mail and definitely procedures (including these two) remain at the state level. Then, in the case where voting by mail occurs, I very much support adding an ID number (comparable to showing ID when voting in person) so there is a better verification than a signature match.

The signature match is pretty thorough in CO. My daughter's ballot was questioned. She had to fill out a different signature form, and even got a call from the DA's office to confirm
the the original signature was hers.

I support voting by mail and early voting, with Voter ID and or a method to tract a legitimate mail in voter to a real person.

Simple registration. My state, provide an approved method of ID verification, I am now a permanent absentee ballot holder. Done.

No funny business just done.

This has been the case for a long time. No matter what narrative the nutters try to push the majority of Americans support Voter ID as long as its done right and is actually about ID.

ill repost the same thing i do in most threads about voter ID

National voter ID could have been passed a long time ago if:

- every ID currently acceptable by the government was acceptable for voting (without any new special rules like they did in texas and it was a disaster)
- and/or as long as one of them is free, readily available at many places including every polling place.

but NO, many bills:

restrict voting days, times
restrict voting by bus
close and or consolidate polls
redistrict areas
restrict absentee voting
restrict early voting
restrict, eliminate or try to prevent mail-in voting
redraw districts
etc etc

why?
NONE of that deals with ID and THOSE are the things that people have a problem with, mostly because those things disproportionately affect minorities

So anybody that wants voter ID all they got to do is submit a bill described above that polls show people support and boom! voter ID exists.

This part of the survey was really interesting...

The poll found that 69 percent of respondents supported establishing national regulations for federal elections in every state, while just 25 percent were opposed.

When broken down by party, the poll found that 92 percent of Democratic respondents, 63 percent of independent respondents and 51 percent of Republican respondents support the effort to have federal elections laws.

Voter ID is too simplistic of a question... The devil is always in the details.. What type of Voter ID is acceptable?

I support early voting, mail in voting and convenient neighbourhood drop boxes but with secure voter ID's in place. I also believe that federal elections should have some level of consistency across Provinces. All citizens should have an equal opportunity to vote for federal officials.

At this point, do you really NOT know how mail-in voting works? Each mail-in ballot has a bar code.

Even has a bar code that you rip off before sending in the rest of the ballot that has a bar code. And they match! Seems like they try to make it as secure as possible or something.

why would you oppose voting by mail? There are millions of voters in this country and not enough poll places to accommodate all of them. We want everyone who can vote, to vote. I don't care if you are Republican, Democrat, Independent, Constitution, Socialist or the Alien Pizza political party...if you can vote, you should.

mail in voting in Colorado is very convenient. They send out ballots to registered voters addresses, but as you pointed out everything has to match.

There has never been a better time for our two major political parties to institute a national ID card. We are already close to it with our social security system identification. Modern tech should make such identification difficult to counterfeit.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.

my concern with this is that we deny passports to certain citizens....and that national ID could fall in step with that as well...for instance owing taxes, or having a criminal record or owing child support...those aren't good reasons to deny the right to vote.

It couldn't be simpler. You can vote in person, if that makes you happy. You can mail your ballot back, take it to your county clerk's office, drop it in one of many drop boxes (I have to go a whole mile and a half to find one).....

All of which is the objection, of course. Makes it to easy and convenient, and then you'll have way too many people voting!

Hi, Clara!

I'm not sure how something like that would work, or if it would even be considered in drafting the legislation. It may well be moot, though. Given the present political milieu, should a member of one party suggest such legislation, the other party would find a reason to oppose it.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.
