There was much made out of O’Brien speaking at the RNC, immediate claims being it proved unions were no longer supporting democrats.
Quite a number of unions have now endorsed Harris.

Randi Weingarten, head of the 1.7-million member American Federation of Teachers and a close ally of President Joe Biden, said she’d forgotten to bring something on stage with her at the union’s national convention in Houston, Texas on Monday.

“I don’t have tissues -- I should, unfortunately,” Weingarten said, before thanking Biden for his achievements. A day earlier, Weingarten had been among the first labor leaders to express support for the newly announced presidential candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris.

"As you can imagine, my speech changed a lot in the last few days," Weingarten told the audience.

The sentiment reflects a bittersweet moment for organized labor, a key part of the Democratic coalition, which has indicated widespread support for Harris after remaining an allyof Biden up until his decision to step aside.

Within hours of Kamala’s candidacy, some of the nation’s largest unions offered an outright endorsement and others heaped Harris with praise, while acknowledging that an internal endorsement process must run its course.

This is why I think the early polling is meaningless. She's not even begun campaigning yet and all of those resources that take months or even years to amass are flowing in at record speed. It's a tsunami of support, really. Granted, these aren't votes, but she will put these resources to good use.

I am curious how many votes those endorsements actually bring.

Personally I think Harris will win, unless something big happens that paints her in a horrible way, but it would be interesting to see the numbers on those endorsements.
 
The Dem machine fell into line so fast they forgot to notice, that once again they handed Harris the candidacy for an office she utterly failed at attaining on her own merits.

She is going to be tested pretty much for the first time in her political life. And at the very highest level. It's like the kid who got on the high school football team because they needed an extra player, and then the next week he's quarterbacking the superbowl.

The failure could be epic. And epically funny!

Be careful not to assume that just because you haven't heard of something, it didn't happen....

Biden's admin:

Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
Inflation Reduction Act
CHIPS and Science Act

The investments called for are going to create and support all sorts of jobs involving unionized workers, spurred not only by simple base reality but by standards/incentives written into grants and spending programs as implemented by the relevant agencies. Applicants for fundings will have various things they must agree to do and perform to participate, such as requiring them to protect collective bargaining rights, sign project-specific contracts to pay "fair" wages (as no doubt determined by the administering agency), etc.

Biden's appointees to the NLRB are generally long-time advocates for worker and union rights (as you'd expect from the National Labor Relations Board) and have taken any number of actions. If you want one little tidbit: the NLRB ordered more corporations to reinstate unlawfuly terminated workers in Biden's first year than all four combined under Trump. NLRB has brought more complaints about offending corporations (retaliatory firings/retaliatory store closings, withholding wage/benefit increases), updated regulations to help union elections

Updated the Davis-Bacon standards to prevent federal construction contractors from paying below-market wages or generally undercutting union wages, raised the contractor MW to $15/hr generally and indexed it to inflation, etc etc.

And I suppose if you think that appearing at picket lines is 'doing something to aid', then that, I guess.


I mean...there's a ton of stuff. It's the kind of stuff that newspapers don't oooh and ahhh about because that doesn't get clicks, but is google-able, both specifically as to unions and also more generally as to various service workers.
