Local reverend Joel Hunter is not going to lead the Christian Coalition as planned because he will not be allowed to add compassion issues to their agenda.

The coalition itself is losing support. Hunter's ideas seem fresh and proper for a Christian organization. Why won't they broaden their agenda? Are they only a purely political organization?

The Rev. Joel Hunter, of Longwood's Northland, A Church Distributed, said he quit as president-elect of the group founded by evangelist Pat Robertson because he realized he would be unable to broaden the organization's agenda beyond opposing abortion and gay marriage.

He hoped to include issues such as easing poverty and saving the environment.

"These are issues that Jesus would want us to care about," Hunter said.

The resignation took place Tuesday during an organization board meeting. Hunter said he was not asked to leave.

"They pretty much said, 'These issues are fine, but they're not our issues; that's not our base,' " Hunter said of his conversation with the group's leadership.

The Christian Coalition is not a Christian organization; it is a political organization that cloaks itself in Christian imagery to gain support. Even the most strict, ultraconservative churches concern themselves with charity and the spiritual well-being of their members before they pursue their political agendas.

It surprises me that a man could be elected to lead the organization without realizing this.

He thought he could change them (and he's not even a woman...). But he couldn't, and that's why he bowed out.

I wish he could have changed them. Their politics are not constructive, in my opinion.

I thought the Christian Coalition was pretty much a nonentity these days anyway, if not entirely defunct.
Isn't that old Pat Robertson's organization, which had its heyday back when Reagan was president?

If still living, Pat Robertson must be a fossil by now.

Not only is Pat still alive, but did you know that he can bench press 2,000 pounds? That's right. He can bench a ton. It was in the news recently. He has witnesses. I'll see if I can find the article.

The coalition is fading. The potential new boss wanted to give it a leg up with some faith, hope, and charity, but it wasn't interested.

Here's the story. I take it with a grain of salt. That big grain, in the Atlantic Ocean.

Not here to defend Pat but a bench press and a leg press are not the same. I at 6'4" and 225lbs. personally can leg press 1,100lbs. And I've a friend smaller than myself capable of 100lbs. more than me... Pat at upwards of 70yrs. could never come close to 2000.
As far as the Christian Coalition from an inside perpective... They are alive and a force for any politician to reckon. Founded primarily for the purpose of overturning abortion and later adopted a stance against same sex marriage. These are issues they are not willing to backburner... As they hold steadfast and true to their cause and purpose.

Yeah, I meant leg press, made a mistake. But he still can't do it. No way, no how. Unh-unh.

The coalition, according to the article in the first post, has waning support.

They may be steadfast and true to their agenda, but is that where their efforts should be concentrated as Christians? Joel Hunter doesn't think so.

Well to be fair they as Christians reserve environmental issues and those of a more compassionate nature within the individual confines of there own separate churches/denominations. The coalition was found with sole intent of ultimately overturning Rowe vs. Wade by manner and means of shining light on politicians who are committed to this cause/at least they being anti-abortion... More specifically Presidential candidates as theres' is the power to appoint judges that are likely to vote as they (coalitionists) would prefer.
Most Christians I know are hardly environmentalist or at least not devout... Let alone treehuggers.
...And yes they are waning.

No Pat never could've leg-pressed 2000lbs.
Why he spews such absurdities I don't know... He is human, thus not infallable... And yet God knows his heart.
