London woman off insulin for Type 1 diabetes after a single dose of experimental manufactured stem cells

Tumors and cancer are what you get when you think you know better than Mother Nature.

Gosh.

Guess the field of medicine is a complete waste of time then.

Don't want to fool with Mother Nature, a 30 year lifespan is plenty.

You know, I’ve often thought about the implications of defying Mother Nature to keep the weak links in the gene pool. I don’t have any doubt that sin will return to visit our species.

This study is encouraging. Nonetheless, it uses stem cells foreign to the body, so the patients are taking immunosuppression drugs continually. (On the other hand, the use of foreign cells does reduce the risk of cancers or other inappropriate tissue formation, since they could just stop)

Embryonic tissue used. The pro fetus crowd won't be liking that. Better to have diabetes.
I have heard that stem cells from Umbilical cords is used in quite a bit of research.

Teratomas are guaranteed. Malignancy is somewhere in the range of 4-10%.

The good thing about embryonic stem cells is that they can form any tissue. The bad thing is that they can form any tissue and it’s uncontrollable. There’s a reason embryos stop producing them after 7 days. Tumors and cancer are what you get when you think you know better than Mother Nature.
The same type of "anti" reasoning was prevalent during the development of radiation and chemotherapies.
The religious nuts had their way with Bushy two putting the brakes on stem cell research leaving other countries to carry the ball forward.

Wait until RFK gets wind of this and goes on one of his retarded missions.

They did a study not too long ago to try to find a substance that killed inactive glial cells in the pancreas without killing the active ones.

That’s what causes diabetes. The cells stop producing insulin but don’t die so can be replaced with new ones that work.

Turned out the only one they found was, iirc, harmaline, one of the chemicals that coincidentally is one if the ingredients in ayahuasca, the South American ritual hallucinogen.

What's the betting that this will cost about £1000 in the UK and yet cost $50k in the US for some mysterious reason?

Why would UK citizens have to pay?

Canadians wouldn't.

In BC for a new drug there might be a 'co-pay'

90% of my meds are covered
This isn't a pill you pick up from the pharmacy.

It has to be administered in a hospital with follow up observation. Like with chemotherapy it would be fully covered.

Then my question is when does Canada get it?

Will I still need it?
After Health Canada approval. This is likely years away.

If it works as well as it did in this trial (83% efficacy) they'll make it a priority.

Stem cells come from a number of places, including the placenta and umbilical cord. Unless a bunch of Neo-Dems are going to sit around a campfire, singing Kum Bah Ya and eat it, it is better put to use in science.

If we are going to allow abortion because some people can't keep their legs together or they get a wild hair and decide that don't want a kid after all., at the very least SOMETHING useful can come from it.

I, for one, am not religious and I don't think abortion is a good method of birth control. Rape and incest are outliers and I don't agree that they should be forced to bear a child they didn't ask for. Victims of rape, should they decide to keep the child and raise it or put up for adoption are to be admired.

Knowing people who have diabetes , no, it is NOT better to have it. Why have science if we aren't using it for good?

And. yes, I know some people in my side of the political isle are going to be pissed at me. The difference is they will question my beliefs but allow me to have them, as opposed to crazy ass Dems who resort to screaming and gnashing teeth.

I hit a nerve, 😆.
Unless sarcasm is missed.

Are they well done? I don't like my fetuses rare.

No sarcasm at all. Well, the Dem part maybe. The rest is all me.
It may be time I made some changes. It's hard to have a sensible conversation with you.

You bring up eating fetuses and I have the problem. 😆 🤣 😂

Im all for scientific research. Fetal tissues should be donated for scientific research. It just ends up in an incinerator like biowaste otherwise. Why not put it to good use? The problem is, people tend to let their feelings override reason and there's been a trend of hostility towards science in general the last few decades.
Btw, whom exactly is eating fetuses? Personally, I would batter and fry them first. Nothing like fried fetal fritters. Probably tastes like chicken too. 😆
