Lobbyist Secretly Wrote House Dems' Letter Urging Weaker Investor Protections | Mother Jones

:dohIdiots!!

The Department of Labor, which oversees the federal law setting minimum standards for many retirement plans, would like to require retirement investment advisers to act in the best interest of their customers, as opposed to their own best interest.

But 28 out of the 43 members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)—a group of African American members of Congress that advocates the interests of low-income people and minorities—signed onto a June 14 letter opposing the rule. So did Democratic lawmakers Pedro Pierluisi of Puerto Rico, Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, Ed Pastor of Arizona, and Jim Costa of California.

The letter's metadata indicates it was drafted by Robert Lewis, a lobbyist who works for the Financial Services Institute (FSI), an investment industry trade group.

Wow. Wonder how much they were making on that deal.

Lobbyist write a lot more of our legislation than you apparently realize and have been doing for quite awhile.

"Than you apparently realize?" ALEC, hello.

They're just not generally dumb enough to sign off on the original.

when I worked on the hill, lobbyist routinely wrote legislation. It was reviewed, revised, etc by them based upon member/staff input and then when it was ready, it would be circulated. Not as nefarious as it sounds.

Have you seen the advertisements and acknowledgements by the Administration of the participation of special interest groups (lobbyists) in the writing of the ACA? Many of which are the parts that are now having waivers issued for.

Never be surprised when politicians act like politicians, or when people let their ego prevail and take credit for their own work. Even if its a lobbyist that would normally run below the radar.

The CBC proves yet again, they want EVERYONE to be poor and sucking off the gubmint tit.

The Left can only exist in crisis. Creating the crisis themselves is of no matter to them.
