This is the special election that's being held today to replace trumps appointment of Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

There are a lot of contestants in this special election if no one recieves an outright majority of 50.1% then there will be a runoff.

Currently 20% reporting. Top two are:

Jon Ossoff (D) 56.7%
Karen Handel (R) 16.2%

I guess the Republicans are worried. Today was the first time I've ever had one knock on my door as part of a last minute "get the vote out" push.

They could've been a lot more organized for this. There are a slew of republicans splitting votes between each other and only the one dem that I know of.

Ossoff's not hitting his margins to avoid a runoff. And I think a two month campaign without Republican infighting full of tying Ossoff to Pelosi will probably keep this seat in GOP hands.

Learned there was a second democrat when i saw the ballot today. Guessing he or she got none of the financial support that Ossoff got.

Where did you derive what margins ossoff should be hitting to win outright?

Ossoff pulled a LOT of money from outside his district.

Somewhere on the Daily Kos, can't find exactly where again. At this point he's at Hillary's level in Dekalb County and dropping, and she got only 47%. So that's certainly not good for him.

5 Dems
11 Reps
2 Indy's

Getting to a run-off is a Dem win and will be played by Dems as a dark cloud over the mid-term for Repubs. Dems actually winning this election will kinda be wtf despite 4x normal funding.

AJC's lead political reporter says he's overhearing GOP operatives saying things like "not good" "this is going to be close" "I'm concerned" as the votes are coming in.

Cook Political and Dave Wasserman have both called it as going to a runoff.

Ossoff is dropping. Down to 53.9% with 32% reporting.

He promises to move to his district if he wins. Right now he can't vote for himself in the election.

He grew up in the district and is now living with his girlfriend as she gets her med degree at Emory and has intended to move back after she gets her degree. Do you really wanna get into a battle of carpet-baggers?

Ossoff raised a ****ton of money, he raised the same amount of money as the federal Liberals here did all of last year.

This is an interesting horse race. Coming around the bend with Ossoff leading with 53.9%.

Maybe if Ossoff wins the GOP will suddenly become interested in real campaign finance reform.
