[LIVE] 1 OCT 2024 CBS Vance-Walz Vice-Presidential Debate Thread

I absolutely love debates, and interviews & talk shows too. I'm enamored with verbal linguistics, sparring, and acrobatics.

By fortunate good luck (well, great sacrificing parents actually), I ended-up in a pretty good Catholic Prep High School during a time when Debate was the Catholic Preps' absolutely highest esteemed extra-curricular activity.

I placed into the Honors curriculum, but didn't get on the very competitive football team, so I did track, cross-country, and wrestling. With those sports and the extra demands of Honors classes, I had no time for any other activities, even though I always had my eye on debate.

Unfortunately Debate was a serious deal, requiring big-time commitment. It was the school's flagship activity (despite their having a concurrent State Championship football team and several runner-ups).

Until today, I regret not having tried to place into that Debate Team. What a missed opportunity! I did get to live vicariously through my son though, who did get on his school's Debate Team. At his first debate, I was both proud & envious of him at the same time!

I'm going to watch it on FoxNews/Pravda. Watch them squirm.

I'm considering [NewsNation]. They seem to be really trying to live up to their Centrist mantra, and I'd like to hear what Centrists (Indies?) think.

Be prepared for JD Vance to have a few good moments. He can at least speak clearly and he's not totally old and insane.

I'm thinking Vance might be the superior debater, if he were to decide to debate sensibly and moderately.

The commentary on ABC and NBC make me want to watch some shitty 80s brat pack film.

I predict a pretty shitty debate "on both sides". These two are not debaters of any means. JD will come off as a smug asshole and Walz...well, no prediction because I've never seen him in a "debate".

Being a Yale J.D., I'm assuming Vance has at the least sufficient basic debating skills.

I have no idea of Coach Walz' debate skills. he seems more "homey" than "debater".

I think this is as good of a prediction as any!

I'm going to watch it on FoxNews/Pravda. Watch them squirm.
They should squirm - a heck of a lot - but they'll just ignore vance's lies and personal attacks. They'll pretend vance is a font of factual information who never ever even exaggerates.

Harris? They'll lie about what she's said. And what she hasn't said.

It's a preordained win for vance.

I am more worried about this one, Vance is a weird nutcase, but he is smart and better at spinning crazy nonsense than Trump. I have not seen Governor Walz debate, has anyone else on here?
