Senator says rival's Iraq policy would give terrorists a victory

Sen. Joe Lieberman Thursday argued that the Democratic party has moved too far to the left.
WATERBURY, Connecticut (AP) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman set out on his go-it-alone re-election campaign Thursday and seized on the terror arrests in Britain to argue that his Democratic opponent, Ned Lamont, does not fully understand the danger facing the nation.

All I see is a bitter old man that can't handle a loss.

From the New York Times letters to the editor:

To the Editor:

The most frightening aspect of Joseph I. Lieberman’s concession speech was his statement that “for the sake of our state, our country and my party, I cannot, I will not let this result stand.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that exactly how a democracy is supposed to work?

From the Supreme Court deciding the 2000 presidential election (which ironically cost Senator Lieberman the vice presidency), to voting irregularities in Ohio in the 2004 presidential election, our democracy is at grave risk of falling victim to those who feel that their personal power and ambitions are more important than the voice of the people.

To the Editor:

The Democrats of Connecticut have spoken, and yet again, Joseph I. Lieberman didn’t listen.

I cringed with embarrassment to watch a man so completely out of touch with the events that had just unfolded before his and America’s eyes give such a vitriolic “concession” speech.

It was just another example of Joe Lieberman’s desperation to keep the job that he, and only he, is responsible for losing.

To the Editor:

Senator Joseph I. Lieberman is giving politicians a bad name.

First he presents himself to Connecticut Democrats as a loyal party man who votes against George W. Bush 90 percent of the time (except for the one teensy-weensy little issue of the Iraq war).

Now he is the crusading champion against the old politics of partisanship.

His true issue seems to be that he alone is the anointed senator from Connecticut. How dare the voters decide otherwise.

He once deserved a graceful retirement. Now he should be tossed out on his ear.

I have lost all respect for the guy. I hope he sees what an a$$ he is. He might as well join the republicans since he is playing those same kind of scare tactics that they love.

aps, your smarter then that.........Leiberman is one of the biggest Liberals in the Senate...........He votes liberal over 90 percent of the time......Unlike the rest of the liberals in the senate he is principled and does not flip flop on his stand on the war on terror and in Iraq............

"the evil of the enemy that faces us -- more evil or as evil as Nazism and probably more dangerous than the Soviet communists ... They want to kill any and all of us."

Sounds to me like Lieberman is more concerned about the threat to Israel than the US.

Lieberman is young?

Anyway. Joementum should have NEVER had the nomination for VP in 2000. If former Florida Senator Bob Graham was on the ticket, Gore wins.

It's always about Joe with Joe.

It cracks me up how Karl Rove gave Joe a call after his loss, and 5 deferrment Cheney is backing Joe, along with Coulter & Hannity.

When will you get it through that head of yours that thishas nothing to do with political ideology? He played, he lost, now he's being a sore looser and he can't accept his defeat so he's rambling around.

When are you going to get it through you head that he is doing nothing illegal or against the consitution.........He will win in November and when it comes to voting on issues I just hope he remembers how liberals kicked him to the curb.........

If it makes you feel any better, he's not the only one. There are a lot of neocons whose loyalty to their country I question.

Did I or anyone else say he did anything illegal or anti-constitutional? Plz np, show me if and where we did.

Why am I not surprised that you, along with Faux, Coulter and other fundamentalists are embracing Joe so much?

You said he should compromise his principles when it comes tp the war like the rest of the lefties and not run as and Independent.........

In November your side loses.....Book it.........

Who said anything about the military? Where did I put the military down?

Joe pushed hard to get on the ticket, then refused to step down as a Senator which would have allowed a GOP Governor to appoint his replacement, a move that could have cost the Dems control of the Senate.

Now Lieberman is the only person in his new party.

Lieberman - Party of one. Your table is ready...

If you are not addressing the comment to me, then as a hint don't put it in a response to my post.

If the shoe fits though........

Where did I say anything about the military, or this another generalized statement.
