Libyan GNA fighters head for front as battle for Sirte looms

summary of the positions of the Tripoli/Bengazi factions

Bengazi faction Khalifa Haftar's 14-month campaign failed to take the capital Tripoli before the new front line solidified between Misrata and Sirte.

Backed by Turkey, the Tripoli based faction has said it will recapture Sirte,

But Egypt, which backs the LNA (Bengazi based) alongside the UAE and Russia, has threatened to send troops into Libya if the GNA (Tripoli based) and Turkish forces try to seize Sirte.

The USA has said Moscow has sent warplanes to Libya via Syria in support of Russian mercenaries (Wagner group) who are fighting alongside the LNA.

Egypt’s parliament to vote on deploying troops to Libya - The Globe and Mail

gypt’s parliament is expected to vote Monday to authorize the president to deploy troops to neighbouring Libya if Turkey-backed forces there, allied with the UN-supported government in Tripoli, move to retake the coastal city of Sirte.

An Egyptian intervention would further destabilize oil-rich Libya, and put two U.S. allies – Turkey and Egypt – in possible direct confrontation.

The vote was initially scheduled for Sunday but was moved to Monday in a closed session, according to lawmaker Mustafa Bakry.
The House of Representatives, packed with supporters of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, is highly likely to vote in favour of the deployment.
