Libyan forces taking back ISIS stronghold

(CNN)Libyan forces have retaken parts of Sirte from ISIS militants, gaining ground in the extremist group's most significant stronghold outside Syria and Iraq, a monitor said Saturday.

In the ongoing offensive, forces supporting the U.N.-brokered government gained control of a port late Friday after fierce clashes with ISIS militants and are in complete control of the al-Sarawa area east of Sirte, according to Al-Bunyan al-Marsous, a Libya monitor.

Europe's bold intentions to support Libya's new U.N.-backed government are faltering as France and Germany resist a bigger role to rebuild the failed state, scarred by the West's 2011 air campaign to help topple dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The European Union and NATO have said they stand ready to help the unity government in Tripoli, if requested, to combat smugglers sending migrants into the Mediterranean toward Europe. Tripoli, for its part, faces a threat from Islamic State fighters who exploited past conflict between rival governments to extend their power.

Evidence has emerged that British special forces have engaged in frontline combat against violent jihadists in Libya for the first time, destroying an Islamic State vehicle packed with explosives.

British Special Forces have been ambushed by Islamic State suicide bombers in Libya, according to a well-informed Israeli website.

The attack is said to have happened last Wednesday and reportedly ‘killed or wounded’ Italian troops travelling in a convoy with the Special Boat Service (SBS) personnel, who apparently escaped uninjured.

‘Vehicles packed with explosives drew up alongside the convoy transporting the Italian and British troops and blew themselves up,’ said the Debka news website.

Momentum towards taking ground back from ISIL has recently increased.

And again Europe for the most part will not step up to the plate.

The reasons the European countries hold back is because of the large Muslim populations in their own countries. And the non-support of Muslims in those countries to stop terror. Which means killing terrorists. Soldiers are told not to wear uniforms in public in the UK. In France we all know what happened, and Germany is overrun by migrants. Many of military age that should be defending their own countries not be on welfare in Germany.

So the harder these countries crack down on terror the more unrest and terror threats in their own countries. It is a battle where Islamists have, and will have, a definite advantage unless the appeasement of Muslims and refugees in these countries end.

Of course, it is an excellent chance for Canada to step in and save the world.
