So Justin is willing to do anything to stay in power, including pandering to an even more Left-wing party, in order to get their support.

So basically, the farther-Leftists are now kingmakers. They can backseat-drive Canada's govt, even though they only have a tiny share of votes.

America's Woke Left must be jealous.

Liberals and NDP Close to Deal to Keep Justin Trudeau in Power until 2025

The Liberals and the NDP are close to announcing a deal that would keep the Liberals in power until 2025.

The NDP has been the Liberals most reliable partner in both the previous minority Parliament and the current one, but the proposed deal, which was being shared late Monday with caucus members from both parties, would be a formal arrangement.

One Liberal familiar with the deal, speaking on background because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said it would run until 2025.

Deal in The Works Between Liberals and NDP that Would Keep Justin Trudeau’s Government in Power in Exchange for NDP-Friendly Measures

A deal is in the works between the federal Liberals and New Democrats that could see Justin Trudeau’s minority government safely staying in power for the next few years — in exchange for NDP-friendly measures in the coming budgets.

News of the potential deal leaked after Trudeau informed his Liberal MPs on Monday night. Sources are saying that Liberals have committed to a dental care program and “real progress” on a national pharmacare program, as the NDP has long demanded.

If the Liberal-NDP deal goes ahead, and sources were saying negotiations were still going on late into Monday night, Canada would be spared a federal election until 2025.

That’s how multiparty systems work. Americans are happy with their do nothing except loot the public treasury parties.

What are you complaining about? Canada is a constitutional monarchy with a Westminster-style parliamentary democracy. At least they can make deals to get stuff done, like a national dental care and pharmacare plan, as well as additional action on climate change. Unlike the stalemate system we have in the US. Are you objecting to their system of govt? What's your point?

In the most recent election, Trudeau received no votes from anyone outside his riding, heads a party that has not had majority support during both his governments, relies upon other parties that have even smaller support in Canada and apparently will continue to rely upon this arrangement for the next several years.

And yet there have been no end of posts over the years about the 'undemocratic' nature of the USA's electoral college system.
A system, which in almost all instances, results in the candidate who wins the majority of the popular vote in the country, to be elected the head of government.

A couple of things..... no PM is voted for by the entire country, only by their riding. No PM has ever had votes " outside his riding" so it's a worthless statement. Tr6deau has has three terms, not two. Trudeau's Liberals defeated the Conservatives with a majority government his first term. His second term was a minority, he called a snap election and got another minority.

The Liberals and NDP, the two large left-leaning parties together took over 50% of the popular vote and almost 55% of the seats. The two Conservative parties gained just over 33% of the vote and 35% of the seats. Canada is a left-leaning country and this coalition best represents them. The concessions the NDP got, dental and pharmaceutical improvements to healthcare will generally be popular amongst all liberals.

This is a good deal to save us from another unwanted, unseeded election.

Lol, I know!!!!
In the last two elections in Canada, it's the Conservative party which has received more of the popular vote than the Liberal party. And yet, Trudeau (from the Liberal party) is PM. Meanwhile, there is no end to the posts about the U.S. electoral college.
I think Trudeau's poll numbers are suffering since his EA over the trucker protest - so he had to find a way to solidify his power and the socialist NDP comes to the rescue. Frankly, many far leftist Canadians deserve Trudeau and now they'll be stuck with him for years. I feel sorry for the other Canadians.

Good!

Thems the rules. Face it, you don't give a shit about the structure. You only give a shit that it isn't benefiting the far right fascists at the moment.

They'll be able to get a cavity filled but they still won't be able to easily or quickly find an available hospital bed, get an MRI, get a joint replacement, or leave a hospital (because there is nowhere for them to go to recover further). And importantly, they still won't meet their NATO obligation and they better cross their fingers a missile doesn't head their way because they've never given a thought to providing their country and its citizens with a missile defense system.

Given a significant majority of the popular vote, but more importantly the larger percentage of seats, went to the left this coalition will play well with most Canadians. Meanwhile the Conservatives are having in house troubles with how far right they go. If they go to the far right for leadership Trudeau is guaranteed a significant majority in the next election. If they go with Charest , I think they can beat Trudeau. This will be a very interesting Conservative leadership fight.

Wouldn't it be great if the U.S. and Canada could broker a people trade? I'd love to trade some of our Woke Left for Canada's conservatives (those who are disgusted with Canada following dictator Trudeau's recent choices/actions over a differing point of view).

That is the way the Canadian system has worked for over a century.

The PM is only voted for in their riding, and the ruling party has not had more than 50% of the vote for decade's. I do not recall the last time but expect it would be the late 60's. Lots of Canadians want the system changed to a proportional system. That would lead to minority governments nearly all the time I expect but would more closely reflect the voting of the Canadian people

You realize that the majority of Canadian conservatives would be left of the main part of the Democrat party in the US.

Only rural western Canada and rural Ontario would have large % of US style conservatives

Certainly not enough to ever form a majority government or find a willing partner in a minority government.

So how left are Canadian liberals in comparison to US liberals?

Wiki lists the Conservative Party of Canada center-right, btw. That's not like the Democratic Party.

Lord T will answer I'm sure. It will be interesting to see if we hold similar views. I think generally you can view NDP supporters as more closely aligned with your progressive wing and most Liberal voters more like the majority of your Dems. Except that all Liberals in my view would see the BBB bill as fairly mainstream not progressive.

Last election the Liberals won 33 % of the popular vote and the NDP 18 %.....give or take...so that is a good idea of how liberals are split.

The last time I saw a poll 80% of Canadians supported Biden so that should tell you something. The NDP are are centre-left and in line with Bernie Sanders and AOC wing of the Democrats while the Liberals tend to flow between the centre-left policies of that wing and more centrist positions of the modern mainline Democrats. The Conservatives have two factions, red tories which fall between mainline Democrats and mainline Republicans, and blue Tories which are more just in line with Republicans. Then you have the PPC which is in line with hardcore Republicans but they have no seats.

You also have the Bloc Quebecois which is generically left-leaning and the Green party but no one really cares about them.

Thank you. Is the majority of Canada people supportive of NDP? That's the only way I could see 80% of Canada supportive of Bidenism.

Biden is from the mainline Democratic faction so he appeals to both Liberal and Conservative leaning Canadians.

Hey, if our ex president ever kicks the bucket at least his then widow will have the next target lined up.

I agree for the most part but I think there is a growing faction of more far right conservatives in the Conservative party......mostly from rural Western provinces, particularly in Alberta.

No, Liberals have the larger percentage of Canadian liberal voters but Joe Biden is not perceived to be progressive by Canadians. Pretty much everything he supports is already in our employment and healthcare laws and has been for sometime. In fact I would say most conservatives also support those policies.

The majority of the Conservatives in Canada support universal health care for one.
The majority of Conservatives in Canada support gun control to various levels

The CPC has approx 38% of the voting population in Canada. Half of that would be like the centrist Democrats ie blue dog. The other half would be like the more right leaning Republicans.

The peoples party would be like the far right of the Republican Party.

80% of the voters in Canada would be be at the same level of the Democratic Party in the US or towards the left of it.

The Con party in Canada is having difficulty in managing the two large groups it has, the more conservative wing and the more liberal wing. About 30 years ago the groups had two different parties, they were merged under Harper who was able to keep both sides happy, the leaders ever since have not. The Con side wants more conservative policies that would prevent them from winning the election, so the leaders move to the left, but the general public has not trusted that they would stay that way. There is a good chance the party will split again

That is just not how our system works, your head of government is not directly elected either. Your president is not the same as a prime minister. A prime minister is always accountable directly to the legislature. The Conservatives did not win enough seats because their support is very concentrated in Canada's West. Liberal support is far more efficient.

Trudeau's poll numbers have not moved since the EA. And there is literally nothing stopping this kind of agreement, it is not dissimilar to other agreements or coalitions in most other democracies.
