"Liberal Derangement Syndrome"

I can't help but notice that many Conservatives on this website, instead of presenting any actual arguments/rebuttals during a political discussion, often simply fall-back on throwing accusations of "TDS" or "Trump Derangement Syndrome." It's terribly lazy. And certainly no president should be above criticism (to be fair: the left has a long history of criticizing Democrat Presidents, sometimes to a fault).

Now, I will argue that there is some truth to "Trump Derangement Syndrome." Particularly for those who consume MSNBC on a daily basis. It's a constant stream of "can you believe what TRUMP is doing NOW."

But it also makes me think this is a "pot calling the kettle black" scenario.

Because much of MAGA in particular are obsessed with the left. The content many of them consume, from Fox News to NewsMax to LibsOfTikTok, is all about "can you believe what the LEFT is doing NOW." They're just as addicted to being rage-baited by the left as much as those MSNBC watchers who are addicted to being rage-baited by Trump.

But then it gets darker:

  • JD Vance endorsed a book called "Unhumans: The Secret History of Communist Revolutions (and How to Crush Them)" which argues that American progressives are "unhuman" and should be treated as such.​

  • JD Vance has named Curtis Yarvin as an influence on how he perceived Trump's second term should go and they have been in contact since the election, Yarvin believes that America should replace democracy with a dictatorship/tech king, and that American citizens should have no political say period.​

  • Trump's top-tech advisor, Marc Andreesen, endorsed a book called "Network State" which advocates for a future America with no democracy, and where liberals are eradicated.​
These are examples of extremism that I would argue most Conservatives don't believe. But these ideas are, at the very least, considered acceptable among those in very high positions of power in this country.

I mean, most Conservatives I know have liberal friends (i'm one of them), and vice versa for most liberals I know. Do you think there is another way we could communicate with each-other to put some speed bumps on the insanity a little bit?

I'm gonna guess the answer will be "no" from many of you on either side of the political fence, and it would go something like this: "No, the left/right have already gone TOO FAR, and you can't reason with crazy." But it seems that the division plays into the hands of the enemies of either side, and perhaps isn't really benefiting anyone.
 
Yes, it is lazy. But that is usually the case. The left has become so unhinged, that there isn't really any point in showing how idiotic the party of hate has become. It is apparent to anyone not suffering from TDS. Those with TDS are in denial of their condition.

Looks like a good read. My search on the book compares communism with the current movement from the left here in the USA.

But it's kinda funny, you switch some nouns/adjectives around and you sound just like a liberal:

It's just a bunch of people accusing each other of the same things repeatedly without explaining why. The mental illness has nothing to do with political affiliation and everything to do with an individual's impulse to continuously engage in superficial political discussion where no real arguments are ever present, and only juvenile insults are exchanged.

Then perhaps the difference between you and I are that I believe that Conservatives should be treated as human even if I don't agree with their politics.

Valid question. I would say that MAGA is overusing "TDS" to simply dismiss any argument critical of Trump, but I don't think "derangement" accurately describes what they're attacking most of the time.

However, for those who find themselves consistently rage-baited by everything Trump posts on his socials or says at a rally (and I have some relatives who are guilty of this), they don't realize that Trumps posts/says outrageous stuff on purpose to both enrage liberals (it helps strengthen division, and entertains MAGA), and to distract from the other bigger things that are happening in and around the Trump administration. So, I would say to just keep your derangement limited, as it isn't very productive.

All that is required for evil men to succeed is for good men to stand by and do nothing.

For years now, conservatives have been working hard to prevent as many people as possible from voting and participating in the politics of our nation. They believe the land of the free has too many freedoms and they are successfully working hard to curtail many of those freedoms.
 
I'd suggest registering to vote, working to get out the vote, and voting. In 2024 I took my rage to AZ and worked the GOTV effort. I felt better doing something, I helped elect a D senator elected, and I felt pretty good about the Presidential election until I started driving home that night.

After the election, my malaise was lower than it might have been. And I knew that I put in the work.

That's pretty much correct coverage, and really, too little, but I will say I think the 'tone' is sometimes like that.

That was kinda slick. But seriously, no. I think, at best, it just showcases that there are some emotionally stunted (and maybe unintelligent) people in every political demographic who enjoy engaging like that...because it offers some sort of catharsis they don't get in their daily lives perhaps.

Quick question, do you think democracy should end?
 
Sorry. I have a hard time taking this thread serious. To me, it indicates you guys still fail to comprehend how you guys unhinge the right.

You really should consider how the tactics of the left are so much like past communist tactics.

The laziness you see is, I believe, a direct result of not having a good counter argument.
One obvious example? Trump lies.
He lies all the time.
Of that there is no doubt.
There is no rational response other than "you're right", which they cannot being themselves to do.
So, bleating "TDS" is the only response they can manage.

There are many other examples that go exactly the same way.

Between this and whataboutism, we can account for about 95% of the pro-trump arguments.

Oh yes we have. The Civil War was no walk in the park, but we survived that too and have been doing pretty well, thanks
