"The unexpected move signaled the sizable value Pelosi gives to personal loyalty and personality preferences. Hoyer competed with her in 2001 for the post of House minority whip, while Murtha managed her winning campaign. Pelosi has also all but decided she will not name the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) to chair that panel next year, a decision pregnant with personal animus."

Harman is probably the MOST qualified Democrat to lead that committee, and she is somewhat level headed although she oppose most of the NSA programs on the surface. So Ms Pelosi is going to strut her stuff, let's see how may enemies in high places she makes.

Even the Huffington Post is taking exception

"She is about to pass up Rep. Jane Harman to become the next chairman of the House Intelligence Committee because of mostly personal animus (a "frosty relationship" as reported in Friday's NYTimes). Thereby sending a signal to the voting public at large that with Democrats, national security, much as they feared, is a secondary issue. Personal fiefdoms and fealty come first before the nation's security concerns. And given those priorities the nation may stand at greater risk."

Jane Harman is under investigation by the FBI for her involvement with AIPAC lobbyists to get her position on the House Intelligence Committee. The investigation of former Defense Intelligence Agency official Lawrence A. Franklin who is now serving time in prison for disclosing classified information to AIPAC lobbyists has apparently lead to Rep. Jane Harman.

Franklin pleaded guilty a year ago to three felony counts involving improper disclosure and handling of classified information about the Middle East and terrorism to the two lobbyists, who in turn are accused of passing it on to a journalist and a foreign government, widely believed to be Israel.

It appears Rep. Harmon has some major ethic and conflict of interest issues to resolve before she can or should be seriously considered for chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, wouldn't you say?

If there was such solid evidence why is she STILL the ranking Democrat on the committee?

"But while the case is still considered open, officials said, the allegations have not been substantiated and there has been no significant investigative activity on the issue in recent months. The inquiry was first reported by Time magazine.
Harman, who has hired former solicitor general and prominent GOP attorney Theodore Olson, told Time the allegations were “irresponsible, laughable and scurrilous.”
