BEIRUT, August 16—Lebanon’s divided cabinet voted Wednesday night to send the national army into the south beginning on Thursday under a United Nations-mandated cease-fire, but finessed the delicate issue of disarming Hezbollah.

About time. But seriously, who are they kidding? Hezbollah has far too much support in the region especially now.
Israel only made the matter far worse then it already was.
Was/Is Hezbollah dangerous? Sure, but was the situation immediate enough that it demanded Israel to launch such a strike into south lebanon? From what I know so far, didn't seem like it.
So you had a few troops kid napped, hardly seems reasonable then to displace thousands of civilians. Yet who "defended" against Israel? Nope not the lebanese military, but Hezbollah. Hezbollah played the defender of those that could not defend themselves - thus acting as a militia they fought against Israel. Similar to the minute men along our border.
The result, yes we know thier all assholes, but they did something that the government should've done, thus recieving wide spread support. Hell the Lebanese may even be calling hezbollah patriots now just as we do with the minute men.

IMO, Lebanon's infant democracy is far from capable of disarming Hezbollah at this point - they weren't quite capable before, but now, they are deffinetely incapable, especially with such support from local civilians.

It's sad that the Lebanese would think Hezbollah firing rockets at Israeli civilains constitutes defending them. They don't have to like Israel , but I hope the high levels of support for Hezbollah drop. I heard that Iran is donating 150 million dollars to help rebuild Lebanon; I believe the US has upped the yearly amount from 30 to 40 million. Feel free to correct me on those numbers. I hate to see the guilible public of Lebanon twisted to Iran's plans.

The US wouldn't matter because they probably think that we helped Israel in attacking them. Especially if your numbers are accurate then that would mean even more support for Iran/Hezbollah. Do you know any figure on Izrael helping Lebanon rebuild?
We think it doesn't constitute, but look at the ppl in this country that believe that the Minute men's intentions are genuine and not out of racial hatred or xenophobia. Not that difficult anymore to imagine how Lebanese would constitute the firing of rockets at the aggressing country as defense.

First time Lebanese troops are in the South and near the border since the mid 1960s.

Amusing how a Lebonese official last night said troops would be moving in today as HEZBOLLAH HAD GIVEN THEM A 'GREEN LIGHT' TO DO SO.

One must reflect on why this is the case.

yes, but that is saddly never gonna happen, as it involves being critical of someone who is unapproachable in the eyes of the powerfull..

It is especially funny because the title of this thread says Lebanon has approved the troop movement when the Leader of Lebanon himself said HEZBOLLAH approved it.....

Thus one can only come to the conclusion that:

IF

Lebanon approves Troop Movement (because)

Hezbollah approves troop movement

THEN

Lebanon = Hezbollah

You kidnapped troops.. This is an act of war in my eyes. At this point you rain down destruction and fire upon any and all locations used to fire missle into your country.

Defend Lebanon. You mean defend those that allowed hezbolla to use them as human shields. To melt into the poulation so they could not be cought.... O defending there supporters you mean. I see no similarities between the minute men and a terrorist group. This democracy elected this group into power. IN a democracy you have to live ...or die with your choices.

The variance between Hezbolla and the minute men is we laugh at the minute men as racist xenophobes where as the Lebanese veiw them as the only ones "protecting" them.
The Lebanese did not elect Hezbolla into power, they were forced at gun point and propaganda. It was either to accept what Israel said, or what Hezbolla said. Were you in thier position who would you believe more? The ones attacking you constantly, or the ones that fight for you and assist with you're rebuilding.
Lebanon just last year finally kicked out Syria, Hezbolla is the only remainder of the influence of neighboring nations. Yet Israel's attack has only garnered more support for Hezbolla. Hence Hezbolla's control is the result of Israeli intervention.

You are right in your argument that Hezbollah has used some of that 100Million a year from iran to buy support from the Lebonese people by upgrading brifges, sommunications systems, hositals, and schools.

You are stretching it a little when you say that Hezbollah is protecting the Lebonese people, especially when hezbollah place drocket launchers in the middile of heavily populated civilian locations, out-right kidnapped Lebonese women and children and placed them by these weapons, and stockpiled weapons in civilians' homes!

You are REALLY stretching the truth when you say that Israel is responsible for Hezbollah's control! No, let's call a spade a spade - you are flat wrong!
One of the U.N.'s purposes in life, according to its charter, is to defend nations against terrorist attacks or attack/enslavement by other nations. Syria, who is iran's lapdog - only the power that it is because of its status of 'Toady' to Iran, the 'Bully'.

Syria beseiged Lebanon long ago. The U.N. did nothing. Syria, with Iran's direction, assassintated multiple political members who were standing up against Syria for a free lebanon. Again, the U.N. did NOTHING, basically 'blessing' Syria's bullying and enslavement of Lebanon! Just like when the french did nothing when Hitler broke the agreement from WWI and moved his troops into the Rhineland, hitler took their lack of action/opposition to the move as a blessing to continue, Syria took the u.N.'s lack of meaningul opposition as their blessing to continue.

later, left with no other alternative after another successful display of U.N. cowardice/ineptitude, Israel went into Lebanon to defend itself from the aunching pad of attacks, the status to which Syria had relegated Lebanon. A a result of Israel's invasion, the U.N. intervened with Resolution 1559, which called for Hezbollah's disarmament...the carrying out of which would have ensured a REAL chance for peace AND liberated Lebanon from the influence of a FOREIGN MILITARIZED force more powerful than their own military within their border! The U.N. (again) FAILED to do this.....since then, the U.N. Obeservers the U.N. sent in have done nothing BUT observe - they have observed the further growth of that foreign military terrorist force, the further enslavement of Lebanon, the increased monetary influence by Syria and Iran, and the daily shipments of weapons/missiles from Iran and Syria!

So, I argue that it is not Israel's fault Hezbollah has grown into what it is but rather the u.N.'s failure to act and do their job when they had the chance. This latest conflict has resulted in yet another opportunity for the U.N. to take the action they refused to back in 2001. And again, they have refused to act and do anything substantial. Instead of peace through the disarmament of Hezbollah and a true International force to ensure peace, they have passed another pi$$-poor Resolution that has no teeth, to International force, no deisre or attempt to disarm Hezbollah, and allows Hezbollah, instead, to re-group and re-arm!

THat's how we see it. For the civilians though it would be taking matters into thier own hands. WHo are Hezbolla? They are not a foreign military (though they deffinetely have foreign support and aid) but they are essentially local militia. Thus I say "protecting".

I'm not denying by any lengths that IRan and Syria are those that created and support Hezbolla. What I am stating is that even with simply reference to this recent "conflict". Hezbolla has gained popularity because of Israel's actions. Perhaps I should say that Israeli policy re-inforces hezbolla? Regardless of the terminology, the out come is the same. The more Israel attacks or breaks way with "cease fire" agreements, or seemingly breaks, the stronger Hezbolla's support becomes.

I don't consider the minutemen neither of what you described. Protecting our borders may be racist to you but I font it to be a neccesity.

Protecting them? There the couse for protection. If tis group wasn't running there country there wouldn't be attacks to be protected from. Your logic is definetly circular. They fight for you because they pick the fights. They assist you because they picked a fight. They rebuild for you because they picked a fight. This is there doing, if there belive this then they truly are sheep.

As a nation Israel can not allow HZ to attack them with impunity. Either Isael destruys them and probably Lebanon with it, or they destroy Israel

NO WAY, my friend!

A 'local militia' does not have the arsenal that Hezbollah does.

A 'local militia' is not larger and more powerful than the military of the country that it occupies.

A 'local militia' is not given $100 million a year by an outside country.

A 'local militia' is not put into power by the assassination of that country's politcal leaders by the same country that funds, trains, supplies, and arms them.

There is mnothing 'local' about them except that this foreign force is now embedded locally in Lebanon...and there is very little in comparison to Hezbollah with a 'militia'. The Minutemen down on the border trying to leep illegals out of this country is a 'militia'. Hezbollah is no 'militia'!

Hezbollah is an occupying terrorist military branch of Iran and Syria, as evident by the $100 Million-a-year in financing, supplying, and arming of Hezbollah by Iran as well as the Iranian soldiers caught fighting among the ranks of Hezbollah during this latest conflict!
