Latino support for Trump on rise at 37%...

If Bernie had more of a chance, would your family be supporting him over Trump?

No, afraid not. The reason we left and came here (legally), was to escape socialism. Sanders sounds a lot like the politicians we came here to get away from.

My family was about 99% Democrat. Democrats were not so far to the left in the 50's and 60's as they are today. Today, I would put the count at about 60/40 Democrat with more and more switching each year; especially the young.

That's interesting, I've been seeing the same thing here in California. There's been Hispanics here for hundreds of years, and many of those who trace their ancestry back that far are fed up with the way things are going.

I've heard of Cubans feeling the same way that you do, because Cuba is an example of the far left creating poverty through inept or corrupt government that controls every aspect of life there.

The younger generation seems to be far left, as we saw during the San Jose mêlée, or leaning towards Trump's ideas.

Personally I see a ton of hard working Latinos in this country, and those are the ones that have the most to lose by new groups of immigrants, be it Hispanic, Asian, etc.

It is evident that Donald Trump has rewritten the rules of political campaigning, leaving the so- called experts, analysts, journalists and even the GOP itself puzzled by the power and effectiveness of his approach.

I will attack this poll the same way I did to the polls showing massive support to democrats and none to republicans. To date polls isolating hispanics have been extremely few and far between this election cycle. Exit polls showed trump did quite well with hispanic voters, but translating gop primary to general is not absolute by any means.

So far I believe this is only the third poll I have seen, the other was from fox news latino also and one posted from another user on this site. If you have 3 or 4 polls spread out over 8 months, all going different directions, it simply means none of them are accurate. To be accurate you would need a polling average, which needs a larger sample than a poll every 3 months.

He also has an African-American!

FoxNews and ABC are the only polls showing Trump ahead. The other five, including the conservative Rasmussen poll, all show Clinton ahead which averages out to +3.1 percent...up from +2.0 a week ago The gap is starting to widen again as Trumps over all ratings are going down while Hillary's are going up.

I think most hispanics are simpatico with illegal immigration - but I'd like to think that if they consider themselves american's they don't like those assholes throwing things and waving mexican flags. If Trumps numbers with latinos is increasing that may be the cause.

I always wondered if Hispanic-Americans of non-Mexican descent cared about what he said about Mexico.

The Hispanic-Americans I grew up around and went to school (Florida) with were all from the Caribbean or South America (or their parents were). They made fun of Mexico and Mexicans without a second thought.

Not all that puzzling, Latinos/Hispanics love their strongmen.

I live in California as well, and I have yet to meet a Hispanic Trump supporter, yet I know they exist.

I'm "hispanic" myself and know a few "hispanics" voting for Trump, but they are Cuban. The interesting thing about Cubans though is the fact that the younger generation is starting to lean more liberal. I believe in the 2012, Obama won the florida Cuban vote (by very little), which was historic for a Democrat candidate, because Cubans have historically leaned Republican.

Uh, Cubans are actually starting to lean more Democrat now than ever before.

That is true, but I am sure it will swing the other way now that travel is relaxed. Cubans leaned conservative because they had first hand knowledge of what life under the left is like. Their children, not so much. The left's version of the world does look good on paper, but when actually implemented, results in horrid living conditions. Google Venezuela for the most recent example.

Puerto Ricans can travel back and forth very easy as no passport is required. Therefore, I took my kids back often to keep in touch with family. My theory is that since the youths are constantly exposed to real life under socialism, they don't like it and don't want to bring it home. Cuban's didn't get to take their kids back for visits. Now that they can, reality will set in and set the pendulum back in the other direction.

I have to disagree with your opening statement. Just because people share a common language, does not mean they share a common culture. It would be like lumping all English speaking people, such as Canadians, Americans, Australians, and British together.

Therefore, it would be more accurate to say something like "I think most Mexicans are sympathetic with illegal immigration." I think that you will find that the people that took the effort to get here legally are indeed proud Americans.

Its a Fox News poll... so highly inaccurate :) Bet 37% are in favour and 83% are against..... and you do the math there :)

some where in the fine print it states "accuracy +-37%".

Mexican-Americans and maybe Cuban-Americans, but people of South American descent? I haven't seen a hint of that. I'm a first generation American (Jamaican) and trust me, immigrants and their children are usually quick to unleash the fires of condemnation on illegal immigrants (barring Mexican-Americans and Cuban-Americans when the question is of Cubans refugees leaving that Castroist ****hole). But, I can only speak from my experience. If you've seen something else with Hispanic-Americans of non-Mexican descent, then fair enough.

@bold: the only people enjoying that Mexican flag nonsense are left wing Mexican-Americans and self-loathing white people. In my experience, I've seen little to no respect or love for Mexico amongst my non-Mexican Hispanic-American friends and acquaintances (I live in South Florida, lots of people with blood from Cuba, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, etc, but not many Mexicans in comparison).

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Trump was doing well with Cuban-Americans, and in a more general sense, white Hispanic-Americans.

I'd be more convinced if Mexicans tried to assimilate instead of trying to balkanize. I live in LA and don't see much effort from immigrants to assimilate. They're more of the Mexican flag waving type.

I see you are a fan of stereotypes.

So, it's a Mexican-American thing. Assimilation is key, but it doesn't happen overnight. As George Will said, we're good at this. It's not easy, but we get it done. Things were even harder with the Germans and Italians.

And the Irish.

Latinos come in all shapes and sizes. I had two Mexican girlfriends and a Cuban-French one: The two Mexican girls were pro-immigration and my Cuban GF was very conservative.

Conservative in the bedroom?

Uh, what are you talking about? The most successful countries lean to the left. It's conservatism that doesn't work. In fact, name me one successful conservative run government ANYWHERE in the entire world. You can't. Hell, America has truly never had a conservative president, and that's for good reason.

And I'm far from the only one.
