As Clinton stumbles, Trump takes an apparent slim lead in new tracking poll

s the presidential race moves into a key two-week period, with the announcement of running mates and the party conventions, Donald Trump has taken an apparent slim lead over Hillary Clinton, based on strong support from white voters, particularly men.

That finding, from a USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times Daybreak tracking poll, a new survey that begins publication Friday, marks a significant shift in a race that most polls indicated Clinton has led since mid-May.

Easy on 'em Mickey, we don't want to have to post a Web Site Wide Suicide Watch.

The conventional wisdom says the battleground states will decide this election and so far Clinton maintains a narrow lead in all but one (Georgia) according the RCP daily averagers. But Hillary's lead has definitely narrowed in that category going from double digits to 2 pt something now. But I'm not sure conventional wisdom will be accurate in the traditional red/blue states where they assume blue will go Hillary's way and red will go Trump's.

Lead? Neither candidate even has their official nomination yet, wait for the poll in Nov, now that one will actually mean something. oh, darn I just realized what it means either way, me sad.:hm

Pay attention to the dates on those polls. Many of them happened in early June or sooner. Quinnipiac has trump up in the swing states while NBC has Clinton up by double digits in those same states. Who can be trusted? Based on the other polls, NBC is probably an outlier and the truth is they are absolutely neck and neck in the swing states. I'd throw the average out because NBC is skewing the results.

Quite an amazing feat when you put it that way. A very unusual candidate from the weak pablum that's been served of the last decades or so.

And the ads that are going to come out. Benghazi...e-mail gate...bimbo eruptions...FBI reading of careless and reckless...can't use a fax machine...Jennifer Flowers and "believe rape victims"...and so many more. She's toast. Then she'll get hit on her policies like NAFTA, taxes, spending, and so on. She's going to spend her whole time trying to deflect and defend. This will be a 0 substance election.

If Obama gave a dayem about his party - he woulda' indicted her ass, and let the better suited candidate go up against Trump!

Clinton is blowing through money like no one's business. while trump is sitting back and collecting it from fund raisers.
he realizes that this is a marathon not a sprint and it is better to wait till when the time is right to hit.

Now that he has an actual VP with a solid background he will be able to get even better advice on how to approach this.

however once he starts she will not know where it is coming from. just look at the primary.
they attempted to derail him the entire time. they were all left defending themselves.

Hillary is going to have a hard time defending her actions and everything else in the past.

I have to agree. it was pretty stupid for them to continue to promote her after what she did.
it wasn't smart at all.

It makes a huge difference if the poll is done with whoever answers the phone vs only polling likely voters. Some do it one way. Some the other.

Crap, wait until Trump starts unloading on her...the libs will have to resort to guns because they will run out of knives. :lamo

It's gonna be a battle.

Well, I'd like to see what Trump can do, he's been a success story most of his life and is a no nonsense, can do, type of guy. Hillary?.....just another slug...leaving a slime trail.

I'm a watchin.

Indeed.

But...obama owes her from the last time, it's payback.

Laugh all you want, but Bernie consistently polls higher than Mrs. Clinton against Donald Trump.

Plus, I think Socialist vs Capitalist would make for some good debates!

Give it a break. A socialist is not likely to do better than Hillary. He couldn't even win among Democrats.

Meh.....polls. I take them at face value.

And a Trump/Sanders debate would be a joke. Trump is a joke who cant debate on issues to save his Chinese tie, while Sanders has spent way too many long nights reading his diatribes on the House floor in front of CSpan cameras with no one listening.

Anyone who believes Trump has spent a tenth of what Clinton has is smoking the good stuff.

Am I reading you right that you dont give him any credit for doing as well as he did against the Clinton Party?

And, as per usual, a poll (a new one, mind you) breaks wildly from the pack. We call this an outlier.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2016 - General Election: Trump vs. Clinton

Clinton leads handily in virtually every poll.
